Regardless of whether or not we agree that the interface is created with the consoles in mind, we need to give credit for a PC only release being followed by a console version later.

It sure beats playing crappy ports of last years console versions.

I agree about the "consoleitis" of the game , but its hard to fault a developer for trying to make more money.

At least CDP is showing pc gamers more respect than the majority of other Devs.
It's hilarious when people accuse a business, a business!!!, of selling out. The platform bickering is so juvenile.

Good for CDProjekt Red and I hope the 360 version sells enough so they can put out a PS3 version. Every rpg fan should get to play this game. Just don't go all Crytek or Bioware or Epic on your loyal PC fans! :)
Scrolling a list is not inherently not PC. When I go to bookmarks in Firefox there isn't a grid, there is a list, for example. I don't know why people are so hung-up on the list thing, I think the menus and interface on The Witcher 2 are great (other than no junk filter).

I played the game for about an hour using my 360 pad to see how it played and honestly I thought the menus sucked with the pad. Having to scroll through the filters with the bumpers and slowly move down lists one item at a time... blah! With a mouse the menus are fast and simple to use by just clicking what you want to go to, or dragging items, or scrolling quickly with the scroll wheel.

I do agree the original Witcher's menu was better, but it was handling less items at once and was designed for an entirely different combat style.
Yes! It doesn't get much easier than scrolling and dragging and dropping items. People have a nasty desire to complain about everything no matter how insignificant.

OMG CONSOLE INVENTORY...smfh.

rivo101: Everyone has too stop crying about this, THEY ARE A COMPANY THAT NEEDS TO MAKE A PROFIT!!!!

Its the sane thing to do , besides more people will be able to play this great game, so pull your heads out of your own asses and move on with your lives.
CDP made a profit from the PC exclusive The Witcher, you know? TW2 sold 400k+ copies in first week so it surely looks like CDP will make a profit from it too.

TW and TW2 are such great games because CDP always puts quality first. Unlike EA that puts PROFIT!!! first and delivers DA2. Are you suggesting that CDP should lower the bar and do the same?

jklinders: No complaints from me here. Unlike a lot of folks I live in a little place I like to call reality. These guys have bills to pay and mouths to feed like you and me. makes sense that they not actively lock themselves out of a market just to satisfy a vocal minority of whiny spoiled brats.
Then maybe CDP should lower the bar and deliver games that are more appealing to masses instead of sophisticated RPGs for whiny spoiled brats? Or even better, sell their souls to EA like BioWare did?

All in the name of paying bills and feeding mouths? Blah!

Sfon: To be clear, I'm neither saying that CDPR is evil nor that people just ought to accept the mistakes and be quiet. Just that the mistakes are not as console oriented as some claim. It could be made better for both consoles and the PC even without using different menus for everything. Claiming the problem is their willingness to make it usable with consoles makes the PC userbase sound hopelessly needy and discourages tacking notable mistakes which could result in a better TW3 for everyone.
Yes, I agree. It is all about having the best possible experience on each platform.

@tha dude who called me a brat..

get over ya self dude ya big fkin hero.. they made there money u not read well ?400,000 + sold in first week ALONE for this game..thats a success story anything more than that is just a given.. games HOPE they sell that amount.. u can go around sucking the companies **** if u want..but i know they definetly got profits from the sales so far..they did good..so any more pimping there product out to the consoles is just greed.

i was one of the guys telling everyone to buy this cd and support the pc exclusive community/drm free movement < i had tha shit up on a few websites... i wont be giving my high praise anymore cause history states every company that goes to console turns to shit. If history didnt show us this over n over than i wouldve give a fuck but sadly Good PC game and console just dont fit together. And unless they spend alllllllooottt of money making 2 seperate games than any new games from them will be a game built with lead purpose to run on a console..

argue all u like but u only have to be able to see all other developers who did it and know the chances are high < im not the one forcing bioware to sell there souls to cater to the useless console owners or forcing crytek to give up there entire fanbase to cater to consoles. dont blame me for history with the other developers.

i pray and hope witcher series isnt now ruined thanks to greed cause i love the story and the game. And so far was impressed with the PC version of this game but with ""History"" in mind the chances of this brilliant game series not being ruined because of the "Current" consoles are slim. We all know how much more expensive it is to build a PC game aswell as a console game.

Sad but true.

This. It's just business sense to release on multiple platforms.

Though your last sentence is why you do have people up in arms, because they fear CDP will go the same route.

He contradicts himself a bit, doesn't he? :)
LOL @ that guy saying dont go all etc etc etc on your loyal fans..

you basically listed every big developer.. history does speak very loudly doesnt it..

u forgot EA Games..
I don't understand what all the fuss is about. I play TW2 on my PC with an Xbox 360 controller and it doesn't feel like a console game. I have no problem with console games, I play console games sometimes and I own several consoles, but TW2 is not a console game. If CDP can make more money selling it on consoles and bringing some class to them while they're at it, more power to them.
people who are console players will not understand the differences with ports and other problems PC gamers face..its not your fault its the companies who are making the games specially for the extremely outdated console that u play.. so to you nothing is different its all the same for you..

but when u put that console game on a computer thats using todays hardware all the problems are instantly seen..

theres a huge list of things..but thats the main one...

When the next gen consoles come out in 2 years than this problem will be alot different it wont be so bad... so until then we are basically screwed with only a small amount of developers even caring..thats why its such bad news this is happening..cause CDP was really the lead PC developer we had..now they turned to greed aswell..
What is the problem here? Why can't the console players get to enjoy this game?

@thekingcasper:
You do realize that W2 is a PC-game, that is being ported to the consoles. Do you think that the possible sequel would be made to consoles first and ported then to the PC? That's highly unlikely.

And let's not compare CDProjekt to the current Bioware, since CDPR is not bought by a big and greedy "organization".

So, take it easy, relax and enjoy the greatest rpg in recent history :)

jklinders: Ok up front, I've followed the other threads so don't expect a whole lot of back and forth from me on this. We are not going to agree on this pure and simple.

With that out of the way...yes they could have made a separate UI for both platforms. The question is why? I've seen bad UIs. This is not one. it's not perfect but it's Not Mass Effect 1 either. THAT was crap. None of us were involved in the making of the game but we do know a few salient facts.

One, CDPRED is not a big dev house like Bioware or Bethsoft. They simply don't have the same manpower as those big boys.

Two, making separate Uis involves more time QA testing money manpower whatever. What we have is perfectly functional. Frankly after looking at UIs for PC only and cross platform UIs I really couldn't care less which I get as long as it is working and doesn't make me spend 15 minutes turning gear into omni gel.

three which kinda ties into 2, one UI interface makes it easier to fix any bugs that do crop up, by definition from a dev standpoint that's way better. I'd rather they spend time making really cool environments and maps than set up a 1990s style character doll in the inventory screen so that I can play dress up with Geralt.

All of this can be summed up by my saying this is about as far from the end of the world from a quality standpoint as it gets but it has set these boards on fire. it wasn't too bad until the announcement came out about the port. So is it the UI that has you all riled or the port. Both are non issues as far as I am concerned.

Again I am not expecting agreement, you have it your way and I'll have it mine but there you have it.

vindik8or: Four, they were made successful by the PC gamers who loved their PC game. They've traded in all that goodwill to chase a market that doesn't even exist for them yet.
Whatevs buddy. Seriously all it takes for you to take the piss out of them is having ambition? This is why I made the comment about the haters being a bunch of whiny spoiled brats. Either bring some reason to ther table or bugger off.
