My opinion is that the game is designed from the ground up for console and PC. Many people not have idea about TW2 news in the mass media , there are a lot of links in the web about the console version . Maybe Tomas Gop or the CEO of CD proyect in the last month are bad sources ?

The first and global presentation in Russia in in alpha or prototipe state with a gamepad - PC territory at 90 % where very few people use gamepad. . Something strange, however much some players play with a gamepad on the PC, can lead to confusion I have seen many videos and pictures of these events about games in Russia and is very rare to see a PC game presented with a gamepad. By the way was the country where most sold TW

And the answer of the "cameraman" - I ask he about the topic
Does the game is presented with a gamepad?

via Xbox 360
I think he means "via Xbox 360 gamepad" ;)

After the game is presented many times with a gamepad, but in summer of 2010 there is a change . The announcement of the PC exclusivity in GOG ,when the boom of digital download on Steam and GOG. And by magic , the gamepad is not more necessary to present the game;) in the presentations

Jan Bartkowicz in IGN , January 2011

'But what about a console version' I hear you cry. Well, the news is definitely good, despite the depressing failure of the original version to make it to the 360 or PS3. "It's the first console project we would like to do," Bartkowicz confirms. "We need to do it in house. In the end we decided not to do it outsourced.

We've been running some tests, and putting a small part of the game just to make sure we're not cheating anyone. We can show it to you, it is possible."

You can play The Witcher 2 with joypad - it's implemented. The whole interface is designed with console in mind, in fact."

The statements by the CEO of CD project in April 2011

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/299460/news/witcher-2-console-in-the-works-is-entirely-new-project-report/

They says .. "a new complete proyect " but realy I have also read the same CEO in a new on a Polish site . I think that was puting by a polish on the old forum TW The CEO said that the console version will be released after , that they can not announce nothing because can detract the sales of PC . You can play the 360 version this year ;)

Another prove is the aspect of the game we've all seen - and I not talking about the graphics

No, it is not. "Designed for PC" means "designed with keyboard and mouse interface', not "optimized for game pads".
Many people must be new to PC gaming. Gamepads have been a part of PC gaming since long long before the terms 'Consolitis' 'Console Port' 'Made for Console', insert what ever you want for the current console/PC cross platform gaming terms we see now. Gamepads are nothing new to PC gaming.

Nothing about The Witcher 2 has been dumbed down compared to The Witcher 1.

Yup exactly, I've been playing PC games with gamepads since 1994, back when you connect gamepads in soundcards. X-Wing with a gamepad FTW!
So in other words, it's a console game because it utilizes smart design decisions in a way that most PC games have lacked for some time now? Ah, yes, death to the consoles for their priorities on easy-to-understand mechanics and making the game fun to play! God forbid PC games continue to evolve with the times instead of sticking with the same, archaic systems they've used for years!

Seriously, fuck "consolitis" people. I'm sick and tired of idiots decrying smart design choices just because "it's what console people do".
Oh come on, don't be so blind. The UI is horrible for M&K users. The bomb throwing system is clunky (why can't I bind quickslots? makes no sense), and the looting/combat/dialogue initiation really would have been stellar with a small cross hair like the one in TW1. Whether these choices were made just to be gamepad friendly or to be console friendly are irrelevant. They are poor choices and they really should be working on fixing them at some point in the future, because the game would be so much better with proper M&K support.

I suppose I should give M&K a try. I've used 360 controller exclusively, because I always use a gamepad if a game will let me.
I mean, it by no means makes the game unplayable, and it sure as hell isn't going to stop me from throwing my money at CDPR for the next game/expansion they put out, but I would certainly love to see some work being done on the UI in future patches or even a Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition.

I think they should make a separate UI, and you can toggle between different UIs based on whether you are using M&K or game pad. Would please both parties, and if they build it into their engine, they could probably do it once and then not have to worry about it for future expansions or games.

Also, god forbid if the UI is easy to understand! And were not allowed to have fun combat mechanics! If its not tedious and boring then its made for evil CONSOLES.
As a quick note, I want to mention that while I support the idea of CDPR patching and improving the UI and targeting systems for M&K, I do not support the melodramatic posts and constant whining that I see on so many forums about this. I mean, its not going to help anything. Just wait for the official forums to come up, proceed to the obligatory suggestion thread, and make your issues known, in a polite and constructive manner.

ledgabriel: Don't forget lack of customization of keyboard keys, clear sign of console-oriented game.
This indeed is the worst part. WASD is a deal breaker for me.
I'm a PC fanboy. I have argued again and again and again about how consoles have desroyed gaming.

I'm furious about all new game releases when it is immediately noticeable that the game has become retarded in order to sell to the console crowd.

I got angry with the Dragon Age 2 fiasko.
I remember the Deus Ex 1 to Deus Ex 2 consolisation. Deus Ex 3? I sure hope that it won't fall victim to consolisation too.
Supreme Commander 1 to Supreme Commander 2, also ruined.
Mass Effect 1 to Mass Effect 2, ruined even though the story was so good that I didn't really care.

I fear also for the new XCOM and don't get me started on Fallout.

Consoles have ruined almost all the good PC franchises there are.

I wrote the above intro so that you understand where I'm coming from. BUT even I cannot call the Witcher 2 consolised. It sure has a 'controller' feel to it but it absolutely does NOT have a console feel to it.

I can understand why they wanted a single control scheme that can accomodate mouse+keyboard and controllers and I don't mind as long as the game feels like a hardcore PC game.
And Witcher 2 does feel like a PC game even if its control scheme smells console. Let's not go to extremes here people, calling any game that has anything remotely resembling a console game, consolised.
The only real problem with consolisation should be about making a game stupid, easy and retarded enough so that it can be sold to casual gamers and kids. Can anyone call The Witcher 2 an easy or a casual game for kids? No.

I propose that we express our opinions about what can be improved in a civilized manner in the game's official forum when it's ready. Cd Projekt has not give us ANY sign of ignoring the community {yet, and I hope that they stay that way for ever}.

There would be a Constructive Criticism thread where we can all go there and propose to Cd Projekt Red out suggestions and ideas. Meanwhile it would be nice if we didn't appear as PC fanboys calling 'consolisation' just because the game supports a controller scheme or even makes it to consoles anyway. I don't care if the game gets released on consoles or not and it will not bother me if it does.

What will bother me is if the Witcher 3 gets a multiplatform release and has obvious console elements. I sure hope that Cd Projekt Red will not pull a "dragon age 2" on us because I really like this company and I respect them. I hope that they don't prove me wrong like BioWare did.

For me BioWare's games were auto-buys up until I saw some previews about Dragon Age 2 and a "button of awesome" where it was almost obvious that the game was getting a consolisation treatment. Man, was I right. I'm glad I didn't bought the game.

Now, after the Witcher 2 {which I consider a masterpiece} anything from Cd Projekt Red is an auto-buy for me. I hope that this relationship stays that way for ever. But this will depend on whether they keep hearing the PC community and not look sideways for the console kid money.

its hard to make a suggestion for possible change that the devs could at-least try. because witcher 2 fans seem to take any sort of suggestion as whining. im not sure why.

*Amen to that!
I tire of other game-forums where people post vitriol and bile just because of a simple disagreement, this site's different as we are self-moderated adults not reactionary adolescents! (Not pointing fingers, just a simple general term to convey a point.)

(Even though that phrase is useless to me, though the sentiment's the same!)

OT: It's an inevitability that along with the power in console's computing capabilities, and Xbox's tie-in with it's dual gaming platforms there will be simultaneous development between the two, whether for good or ill, we simply need to make sure it doesn't cheapen the experience for both!
