Where can you get this expansion??? cant find it???
I have now got it but after i have done what was written on how to install it all i get is a message saying wrong emulation or something and it wont start . what has gone wrong?? Anyone?
How can we bump this post?
Are GOG doing anything with this anyway?

I'd certainly be happy to pay some extra to get this expansion.

Is the only current way to get hold of a CD (which I can only find via amazon.de at the moment) and follow the steps to make it English?
Yeah I'm afraid 'obtaining' a cd and using the install helper plus engish translations is the only way for now.

I did make an install helper app and a complete english translation installer to simplify the manual procedures a bit:
http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/203258-Vikings-add-on-How-to-Install-Play-on-English-Version?p=1832447&viewfull=1#post1832447

ofcourse I could provide a version with everything in one pack including nocd executables, but that would be a hacked version, and get blocked or removed. So I leave that part up to your own norms and ethics. it will work as provided on the original cd and the addon.exe.

I would like if gog picked up, they can use my translations if they want but need to get their own nocd exe's as I doubt they want to spread the hacked ones available, but yet there is no physical cd, and the current gog one don't work
We could try getting more votes on this:

No idea what went on, but the addon.exe file kept getting deleted on my end when I tried to run the game. Weird as hell.

Unless I have missed some downloads (have the english 1.1 file as per your post on UBI's forum), there is a small bit that is not translated: The victory screen. The sound there is in German. It's fine by me though, as the google one is a bit mechanic ;)

You've done a smashing job on Vikings. The game is so much better with this expansion. Missions are better, and the easy way to recruit soldiers at X, Y or spot Z alone is worth it.
thanks, for the kudos ;)
I'll try and find the victory mp3 and include it in the next rev. patch, at my next visit to the game -probably this winter-

yeah the updated mechanics alone, like no standard gold to all military buildings and 'recruit here' button are like the final patch to the game, so it should be included. also the missions on the first part are a bit thin since the first couple are tutorial ones, so adding this makes it much more complete.

not to mention the new map-editor that allows for random map generation and scripted goals as opposed drawing it all in by hand and just the one goal, like part 1 version offered.

Good to hear, though it's really not a big deal :)

True, the gold set to off at default is great too. No longer will gold be "wasted" to every barracks in town (you just know you will forget to turn it off somewhere).

I've been playing the game a lot lately, and it's so much fun. First the entire Vikings addon again, and now up to mission 7 I think of the original campaign. It could be more challenging though, but it's kind of my own fault for trying to spam generals.

Since you mention the map generator with Vikings, does this work well for you? I tried it, but couldn't get it to generate lots of resources, like mountains filled with coal and such, like in the normal missions. I just got small spots here and there, and I set resources to very high, and even tried on gigantic maps. Are there any tricks here? It would be really fun to play some maps I don't know by heart :P
yeah it's not always very obvious with the editor, but resources are denoted G, I, C, S with a number denoting the amount there. and it does get mountains full of resources.I agree it's too patchy but just use the replace object tool to make entire coal regions for example, by replacing all the stone, iron and gold there. edit: you can also use the add tool to add or remove resources.

the random generator will never be as good as handmade maps I'm afraid, but it does give you a nice start to hand-draw from.

the mountains also never get the proper height form the generator, at least if you want some impregnable ones.

I don't know if there is a better one...

haha it would be nice if a 20th anniversary one was made ;) with updated ai and a bunch of new missions and maps and not too many other changes, except maybe a few, like landing a ship of soldiers in enemy territory ;)

If the Vikings were here I could throw away my physical versions of the CDs.
I need a no-cd patch anyway when I want to play on my netbook, which lacks any optical drive anyway.
In my opinion gog can release only the german version of the vikings addon :D

@gog.com PLZ release the vikings addon!

There are enough german player who will buy this!
(including the german version of the game too)

Sadly, it won't happen due to GOG's policy (main release has to be in English). I say sadly, because CDProjekt (GOG's boss? :) has released Vikings Add-On in Poland few years ago...

But its not a real problem to get this game in germany:

you can get the game with "ubi exclusive line" or "Die Pyramide"
Fun fact:
The GOG game is English only, but the community provides easy ways to morph it into German.
This Addon is German only, but the community provides easy ways to morph it into English.

Just saying, there are two more used copies of this addon (one is collectors item) on this planet at Amazon.de. One just went for a lot of postal charges :)
Artikel: EUR 1,10
Verpackung & Versand: EUR 8,00

At Ubi itself, you get a 404 error if you follow their link to the shop:

The disk arrived and I installed it yesterday.

I am not sure if I am allowed to post what I did to get it working :)

This is for a German installation.

I applied the German patches from Oedi to the game:
http://www.gog.com/forum/the_settlers_series/german_language_patches_for_all_settlers_games

The installer for the Viking Addon said the installation language is not compatible.

Search the registry for the string "S2TNG". It should be in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ubisoft...

The English value: 1033
The German value: 1031

Change it to German and there is no point changing it back, there is no difference at all.
Install the Viking AddOn and be happy.

I also replaced the executeable, which is exchanged with the one from the Vikings AddOn and will now ask for the CD to be inserted (SecureROM protection), with a cracked one for German version 1.1. This way I can play without a disk inserted.

Mind you, I live in Europe and people are allowed to do whatever it takes to use the content they bought, even reverse-engineering. Good examples are DVD and Bluray encryption, which are now easier to play on Linux than Windows OS. There are other countries with more strict copyright laws :)
