Do you like Lords of Midnight or Doomdarks Revenge more?
As a single game LoM is better, and the strategy is better.
But DD is much more replayable, and much more dynamic than the rather static LoM.
I like LOM because of the overwhelming feeling of threat it gives you right from the beginning: The enemy is legion and it's a desperate struggle for alliances. I also love the two possible ways to beat the game (destroying the Ice Crown rpg-style or winning as a grand scale strategist.
But DDR is my favourite, because of it's highly dynamic gameplay - no game is like another, there are hundreds of war parties battling each other, wandering around and five different races. I never finished it, but I always come back to another adventure. For me, DDR is one of the most impressive works of game design ever created: Openworld, highly dynamic, "living" gameworld - and all that on 48 kb!
Personally I don't like the remakes - they make the game more accessible, sure, but I don't like the aesthetics - the Midnight Engine was an approach to modernization I like more. They also change some things in gameplay itself.
I play both DDR and LOM still in their original state: With the help of the ZXSpectrum-Emulator ZXSpin.

They shouldn't change anything in the gameplay, I have been meticulous in recreating the original. There are of course chances there are bugs, and any small deviation in a calculation will have an affect. But that is unintentional.

Hey, I've compared both versions again and it seems you are right. At earlier versions the movement was different (for example Luxor wasn't able to march as far as he did on the Speccy version during the first turn), but now it seems to be correct. I'm sorry, mea culpa! :)
btw How are your plans for Eye of the Moon?

That's no problem, there were issues that crept through, most of them down to the finer points of the AI.
I just like to make sure that problems don't still exist.

I have no plans for EotM yet - Citadel next possibly...

icemarkuk: Citadel next possibly...
Make it turn based?
Sadly the original is a real time clusterfuck and nigh unplayable.

Yes, the idea is to make it more like the first two. I'm slow trying to sort out the data...

Yes, yes, please... :)
