HunchBluntley: you veterans
Haha. If that was supposed to include me, I'm no veteran. I just have the attention span of a squirrel on acid and get bored/distracted easily. You're right though, Terraria offers a lot of content already, building, exploring, killing things, getting killed by things, digging endless tunnels... and looting! All the looting.

Crackpot.756: ... and looting! All the looting.
Don't forget hoarding! I've already got half a dozen increasing disorganized chests full or mostly full of stuff, and I've only had the game for two weeks!

And I saw some of your creations in the screenshots thread. You may not consider yourself a Terraria veteran, but you're WAAAAAY ahead of me in terms of creative construction and (since those things like the globe can't have been quick to build...or to acquire the resources to build) play time.

THANK YOU!
Every time I go to a Terraria page I read about how everyone knows exactly where everything is. I was beginning to think I was the only who throws his shit everywhere. :P

How do you people find anything!
My apartment is a mess but all my boxes in Terraria have been re-named and filled with semi-related blocks, bricks, walls and what have you.

It just means I spend too much time playing Terraria.
Hm that globe still doesn't have a complete back-wall.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I TRIED to start sorting out my chests: I actually do have one for potions, one for weapons & equippable items, one for building materials & metals... but my others started to get away from me, basically becoming 'miscellaneous'. I know I'll have to sort and separate all that junk at some point, but that might not be until I've at least built some sort of dedicated storage room(s). (Right now, my chests are scattered all throughout my little base. I'll try to upload a recent picture to the screenshots thread later.) I'm enjoying spelunking way too much right now to spend time doing housekeeping. =)

I have multiple worlds at different stages, each with its own storage. Finding something comes down to having a somewhat consistent way of storing stuff, which makes the general process of storing/finding stuff easier. Though finding a specific equippable item may take a while in any of my worlds, if it is stored in that world at all.

This might sound like I'm making fun of you but I assure you, IT'S ENVY!!!! :D

I mentioned in another thread how good my niece and nephew are at Terraria and I think a lot of it has to do with how anal and organized they are, just like their father. It takes a level of concentration and effort that is beyond a lazy slob like myself and at the end of the day I think it's this game's ability to allow them to hone that which makes them much more dependable and much more constructive human beings.
Started a new character in a new, larger world (my first world is small, this one's medium) just for the hell of it. I set the difficulty for the character to 'hardcore'. Let's see how long she lasts! =D

I found out in the WIKI that large doesn't really mean more, it just means the same spread out over a larger area. There are more islands and monsters but the ore is pretty much standard, just a lot harder to find.

Pretty much the only reasons I decided to start a new world were 1.) I wanted to start a new character in a fresh environment to see how well I'd be able to survive if I didn't find an awesome weapon right away like I did in my first world (zombie arms are awesome when you're just starting out), and 2.) so I could have a larger space in which to potentially build later on if I ever get into just building stuff for its own sake. A side benefit is that I've got a world with Corruption now as well as one with Crimson. (I'm sure there might be other stuff different between the two, but I've only played one session in the new world so far.) Unfortunately, reason #1 was kind of undermined by my finding a fairly awesome ready-made dwelling inside a giant living tree pretty early on, pre-furnished and everything (even had a living loom in a chest!); all I had to do was place a couple torches, and my Guide decided to move in before I could even assign him. There's also a shaft going down inside the tree trunk deep into the earth, passing lots of caverns and ore deposits. It'll be a godsend for mining and spelunking purposes.
Given that the new character is a hardcore one, though, I'm sure sooner or later she'll die and the world will become my main character's secondary (and -- perhaps eventually -- primary) world. I even imaginatively named it 'AltWorld'. =D
...Aaaand she's dead. :(
A pointless death if ever there was one, too: I was (stupidly) bumbling around in the Corruption, where I had managed to get knocked a little ways down into one of those wells by a slime, and was carefully trying to make my way back out. Then I was notified that a Blood Moon was rising, so I figured I'd better get my woefully-underequipped butt back to the relative safety of my subterranean tree hideout -- or at least back to a safer biome where I could dig myself a hole and seal it up after me while waiting for sunrise. Unfortunately, I wound up falling/getting knocked (I don't remember which now) further down the hole, and it turned out to be just far enough for the fall to kill me outright.
Second play session with that character and world. [sigh].

Ah, well, at least I had stashed the majority of my stuff in a chest back at the hideout, and most of what she was carrying (that I remember) was useful, but common...except the leaf wand. I have a feeling those don't grow on trees (ironically).
Is it odd that when I ran into Tim for the first time about a week ago while (battling some more generic underground monsters), I had his health half gone before I even recognized what was happening? When I realized who I was fighting I thought maybe I was in for a world of hurt, but I guess my gear was a lot better than most players have the first time they encounter him, 'cause I took away the rest of his HP with no trouble. =D

For me, Tim just always shows up at the most inconvenient times. Like when I'm on fire. Or in hell, trying to run away from a Voodoo Demon to avoid accidental summoning. Or very on fire.

The first time I ran into him, though, if I recall correctly, he brutally murdered me, and not only because I was slow to realize that he was indeed trying to murder me and not just some friendly chap living in a cave.

I haven't really explored very deeply yet. In fact, I only saw lava in person for the first time a couple play sessions ago! Most of the fun of this game for, me is, comes from exploring all the little naturally-occurring caves and tunnels, carefully connecting them via my own tunnels only when necessary. I have yet to dig any long, straight shafts to anywhere, though I'm sure I'll do so eventually, once the thrill of spelunking in my main world has worn off.
I tend to start near the surface, and explore laterally more than vertically; only when I've reached the end of the current cave network (as far as I can see, anyway) do I explore downward some more. What this means is that I tend to find a LOT of chests and pots (loot!) and hearts and ore and other stuff. I maxed out my health a couple weeks ago (I've had the game not quite a month), and I think my mana was maxed some time before that (I'm a fallen-star-gatherin' fool! =D ); basically, I'd say I've probably been over-equipped for fighting pretty much all the enemies I've encountered thus far, except the bosses. (On a side note, I just beat Skeletron for the first time last night! So now I get to explore the dungeon. Only died once in my first little expedition, but I can already say that having lots of water candles nearby all at once SUUUUCKS.)

I think you mean ROOOOOOOOOCKS!

There will be a point in Hardmode where you really want the increased spawn rate, if only to get some of the low percentage drops from various enemies.
