McMicroDonalds: There are high reviews on both Steam and GOG but why. This FPS is is just rubbish. It's got awful gunplay and braindead AI. Saying that it's good for a Terminator games sends the message that you'll buy any friggin crap as long as it's lincesd.
I mean the shooting mechanics are just so awful
The game play is
NOT awful. It is generic and does nothing new or unique though. It's an FPS shooter with little else of merit gameplay wise. Arguably the worst system in the game is the shallow tacked on crafting that was not needed at all. In fact I did not even put a point in that skill tree until the rest were full and even than I didn't need too. On the other hand the chips to customize guns was an enjoyable mechanic I thought.
I gave this a 4 out of 5 as 3.5 was not an option and it's better than a 3 IMO. Why? Probably because it is Terminator. I loved the 1st two filmed, and while beyond that there's not many praises to sing. Terminator and T2: Judgement Day are outstanding and iconic films. And this game captures that better than any other terminator game ever has.
The voice acting is well done, and the atmosphere created is so Terminator it made me giddy to traverse through the stages exploring. It's clearly not without it's flaws though either. So fans will ignore flaws and go 5/5, and maybe for them that is true(?) Objectively speaking though there is plenty of room for improvement in game mechanics and game play in general. The enjoyment I got came from the OST and the well crafted world, immersing me in a dystopian future during a war we saw very little of on film. Enough so I could forgive Jen's crazy eyes, I mean c'mon that chicks on drugs right? Look at her eyes!?
My only real disappointment came from the game being too short. I'd say on average most will get 15hrs from it total short of replaying it. And my favorite side characters (Ryan's) dialog tree I could not complete due to a reoccurring fatal error (resulting in a CTD) whenever I tried to initiate further conversation with him.
Otherwise a VERY well presented Terminator game with nothing to write home about game play wise, though nothing so bad I would write home about either. Hopefully seeing what they accomplished at the AA level, someone injects some more money into a sequel that can hold up to other AAA titles out there.
