voodoo47: you also need to set the modpath in cam_mod.ini if you are determined to make your install mod friendly yourself.
4 days late I am.

So what extactly do I need to do step by step to manual get mods to run in SS2?
easiest way is to just run ss2tool.

if you want to do it yourself, create a folder inside your SS2 folder ("mods" for example), edit cam_mod.ini, and make sure the last line looks like this:
mod_path mods+patch_ext
that should set the new folder as the place to autoload mods.
Just installed the game SS2 v.2.1.0.19 and updated to the version 2.1.1.20
(before I had the previous version 2.0.0.9 i think, which would run flawlessly and would make use of all mods with no compatibility issues)....
now, this new version i got installed (ver 2.1.1.20), is it compatible with the mods ??
as mentioned a couple of posts above, you will have to either use ss2tool, or add a mod autoload folder yourself.

or you can use the blue mod manager, that should work fine on the GOG version as well.

last time I used GOG v.2.1.0.19 + mods and it worked...

i will go for it using latest GOG ver + update and then mods

ps: any advice on co-op ? game versions? mods? compatibility issues?
any detailed guide around on web?

Hello!
So i haven't played SS2 since 1999 (good ol' days) , thank you GOG for putting it up on sale! :) I have tried to read the FAQ about mods in SS2 but i didn't get any clues where to get a mod for new textures and models , and how i install it.

(Sorry for this "newbie" question!)

Best regards!

the instructions in the first post should be pretty clear, but anyway: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0
So quiet here nowadays. The Many got them all.
Hey Voodoo,

I'm not sure I'd use it, but out of curiousity, will Gecko's NewDark graphic setting tool also work for SS2?
if it just opens the cfg files and modifies the proper lines accordingly, then it will probably work. but no way of telling until I'll be able to try it out for myself.
I have a question that might already be answered, but seeing how this is over 30 pages long I'll, albeit hesitantly, ask it.

Does anyone know the names of the enemy models in rebirth, and if it's possible to delete them to keep every visual change except for these? I especially prefer the old hybrids over the new. Their diffuse look is much more scary.
if you do not like the Rebirth mod, do not use it. if you are trying to scoop Rebirth out of some random mega modpack, well, good luck - no support for those (but I'll give you a hint: download Rebirth, check the filenames, and delete the corresponding files from the modpack).

I downloaded a large amount of mods individually, including rebirth, so its stuff as a whole is easy to locate.

The "hint", however, doesn't do anything except asking me to repeat my question I'm afraid. My problem from the start was finding these "corresponding files". The files all have really obscure names that don't make clear what content they correspond to. So to spell it out extremely clearly for a second time:

My question was, and still is; does anyone know the names of the object files for the Hybrid models in the Rebirth mod? I want to delete them so that I'll keep every visual change of the Rebirth mod except those for the Hybrids.

If the answer is no, I'll just have to make a million new games with different files deleted until I find them I guess.

so basically, you want to intentionally use old models and new models at the same time. ooooo-key.
