The mac port is flawed.

-Retina scaling is pixelated
-The gameplay is stretched horizontally with no option to unstretch
-Replacement fonts are not good. For mac they used Comic Sans (or equivalent) instead of stylized hand-drawn comic book all caps typeface from back in the day

Love this game, not this port.
agreed

for me the biggest issue is the aspect ratio.

I'm not playing on a retina screen just 1440x900 - but that is not the native 4:3 resolution, in which the game was made.

I don't mind black bars on the side. I hope this gets fixed or some clever soul comes up with a workaround.
Unfortunately I don't know if these issues are within GOG's power to fix...this version is the same Mac native version sold on the App Store. On the one hand, it is Mac native so it runs smoother and with less CPU than an emulated version. But on the other hand, it is frankly a relatively poor port from Microids themselves...it was primarily ported for the IOS platform, and then just kludged to work on OS X. You will notice some odd interface behavior like when trying to browse the "bonus" section...that is from the port being fundamentally for a touch interface.

This may not help much but in case you have not noticed/tried this yet, try looking in the Help/Options menu and then in the top left corner, click the button to change the aspect ratio. That may help a bit with your stretched view issue.

Just install the Syberia Windows version in a CrossOver or Wineskin wrapper. Get the free PortingKit app by PaulTheTall, search for Syberia and be done with it. Enjoy!

Kaoslabs' Mac port of Syberia 2 has the right 4:3 aspect ratio and fixed the control issues. To cut them some slack: The iOS and Mac version features higher resolution character models than the Windows original and they cleaned some of the background images.

I can run it just fine through emulation and I guess this is nitpicking...

The mac version however as mentioned, feels snappier and more responsive. Would be nice if they could fix this little problem.

jigglywiggly I cannot see that button in the options menu.

snirpa: from the main menu, "Help and Options", then in the new screen, the button on the top left above the galloping horse. It should say "4/3" by default but it changes to "16/9" when you click it. In theory it is meant to resolve the aspect ratio issue but the results are hit and miss. (By the way I also prefer the native version as a general rule...I've developed a real peeve for the slowness and high CPU of emulated versions...)

that's odd. My main menu only has "Options" and the only thing you can change in there are sound options. No galloping horse or anything.
The horse is in the Win/Wine version -- the native Mac version has an animated background of the Voralberg factory.

Ouch. Sorry both...I just realized I was referring to Syberia 2, not 1. I forgot that they had made some improvements/fixes with the sequel but not with the first one. You're right, Syberia 1 does not have the aspect ratio button in the options. (Referring to the native versions of both.) Sorry again.

If you do try 2 (I seem to be one of the few who vastly prefers it over the first one) and still have the aspect ratio issues, well...there is that button to try.
