TL;DR: ALWAYS CARRY AN ENGINE IN INVENTORY!
_______

I've made it to Sublevel 4 [of 5] and have the Railgun, a rather good one at that, and had a Ton of Fun despite all of this.

Alright, so here we go:

1) Movement is too harsh for accurate Aiming.
This is more like a Feature that's missing, namely the Sensitivity / Deadzone Setting for the Controller. As it is, you NEED that Autocannon to be able to hit Enemies and survive, so don't unequip it, EVER. One of those two Slots will need to be the AC, because it's Autoaiming to a certain Degree, unlike any other Weapon I've encountered so far. Using a Flamethrower instead may be okay as well, though you need to be almost within Melee Range for that to hit, so the AC's still the Ultima as long as you can't finetune your Movements. As it is, the Crosshairs either overshoot the Enemy or don't quite reach far enough, and they're constantly moving as well, so you can't just stop and aim for 5 Minutes with extremely tiny and slow Movements, they'll be gone by then. Sensitivity / Deadzone Setting for the Controller would help here, just like Sensitivity exists for Mouse.

2) Menus are buggy and not easy to understand.
In general, the Difference between the selected Tab and the inactive Tab is too subtle. It's very hard to follow where the Cursor is, sometimes I really lost it, had to use the Mouse, and as the Game doesn't Pause while you're in there, you can't waste Time by trying to follow the Cursor.

Next, in the Options, you can invert Y Axis of both Mouse and Controller for example, and while Mouse is fine on "Normal", I need my Controller to be "Inverted". Each Time I start the Game, the Options Menu doesn't show my Controller being "Inverted", it says "Normal". Once I click it, nothing happens, and if I click it again, it changes. Soo... yeah. Definitely not what it's supposed to do.

3) When you quit, the Game is WAY too unclear about what will happen.
In a Day and Age where every Game ever asks you, "Are you sure? Any Progress will be lost", this one is quite the Oddity. If you quit the Game mid-Mission, which is ~1h long each, you'll have to restart at Level 1 again. You can't suspend your Game and come back later if something has come up, nor can your Game mess up in any Way [see next] without you losing everything.

4) As I first reached Level 2, the Game became unplayable suddenly.
My FPS is at a solid ~40 and upwards usually, sometimes it may go as low as 20, but overall it's good. However, my first Time on Level 2, my FPS suddenly crashed down to unplayable 1 - 5, and all I could do was restart the Game to fix it, whatever had gone wrong. I knew by then, it'll reset my Progress, so I tried, and died. Restarting in Level 1, the FPS didn't get better, so I restarted and it was fine from there on out. Never happened again. [Checked for Background Processes as it did, nothing.]

5) After spawning in on Sublevel 4, I'm unable to move in ANY Way.
I can switch Weapons, open the Menu, even navigate it using both Keyboard and Controller, which is the same for Movement ingame - yet I'm fixed in Place. Restarting the Game could help, yes, but "restarting the Game" means "losing all Progress", and that's reaching Level 4 / 5 and my excellent Weapons. Also, ~4 Hours of Gameplay to get there, all my Failures from before not included.

*Edit: I've just checked, I'm actually missing my Engine completely. The Slot's empty. If I had another one in Inventory, I could equip that probably and keep going. My Engine actually just poofed between Levels. Huh.
_______

All of the above Problems have quickly forced me into backing up my Savegame Folder [PlayerData] for when Things mess up again, like not finding one SINGLE Repair Kit as I go through two Levels, and needing to restart the Game because of Performance Issues to be playable.

I get it, you're supposed to unlock new Things by playing and dying the Way you do, but I still want to be able to A), PLAY the Game to the End without Bugs preventing my Progress, and B), be able to stop playing when something comes up within the 1h of Gametime in one Level. If you rush through, you do it twice, because you die. So, 1h per Level is a realistic Thing.

Even though I've backed up my Saves, I'm stuck on Level 4 now and have to restart. If I didn't have my previous Save, that means restart from Level 1, and that's frustrating. Just because your Game locks you in Place. Starting a new Game lets me move my Ship again, just trying to "Continue" on Level 4 breaks it.

As long as Stuff like this happens, I strongly advise anyone playing this Game to look for their "PlayerData" folder and make a Copy of it every once in a While.

In one game I was somehow able to equip two engines at once. This basically doubled my speed until the next level, at which point the extra engine was apparently put back into my engine where it belonged.

It was fun flying that fast in a tank though!
Nice XD

Well, ever since, I always carry an extra Engine around and before flying into the Portal, I equip the one I care less about. So if it goes poof, I've still got the preferable Engine. Happened on Spawn at Lvl4, the equipped [crappy] one went poof and the [better] one I had put in the Inventory was equipped automatically.

On Lvl5 Spawn, I still had both [picked up one along the Way again], so yeah. Other People have reported theirs going poof at Spawn in Lvl3 or 2 already though, so even if it was consistently Lvl4 with me, better play it safe and always have a spare one to equip for the Portal in the End. Swap back to your better Engine when the new Level has loaded, or notice that you need to pick up another Engine again.

Hope they fix this, though.
Do the devs know about the missing-engine bug?
A couple of times today I've noticed that, on the first level, I've spawned with 100 Advanced Missiles.

Also the Pyro starts with more ammunition than it can hold.

Additionally, when I grudgingly accepted the "gives more bullet regeneration, but drastically reduces storage capacity" nanocard, I noticed that the excess bullets were still there leaving me with 200% of my new capacity.
There's a patch out for the steam version today...I wonder if we'll get it too.
Hi all! Apologies for the bugs, and thank you for your patience. There should be an update either already or shortly available, which fixes the engine crafting bug amongst a few other major bugs. We're also looking at a lot of tweaks and bugfixes to put out shortly - we should be pushing another update in the next day or so with some of these, and we'll be adding a bit more content as a thank you!

Sweet! So where do we find the patch for our version? I can't see it anywhere on the games page here on GOG.

Also are there going to be achievements in the non-steam version at some point?

Afraid I'm not sure on the ins and outs of that - I'm not the person who sends builds to GOG for updates, so I'd have to ask tomorrow.

Hopefully, yes - we want to implement the GOG Galaxy SDK as far as possible, although I can't give you a date on that yet.
Another bug I encountered in the initial release was the names and stats of weapons occasionally changing. It happened once after a level change and another time after I dropped a weapon then picked it back up.
You've made a great game guys, actually enough to be my first purchased PC game in a decade.

I read that you were looking for feedback regarding bugs, so here is a list of what I've had:

1. The ammunition bar sometimes shows up as the wrong color.

2. The indicator for ammo usage based on double or ripple fire sometimes becomes stuck. This seems to happen when there is a secondary weapon equipped that does not have ripple fire, and the weapon that does not have ripple is set to Slot 2.

3. The ammo symbols on the Nanocart selection menu go out of bounds of the box on resolutions below 1920x1080.

4. The more items that are in the inventory or in the crafting list the smaller the text becomes but the ammo icons start overlapping the boxes.

5. If there are too many crafting possibilities to fit in the list the text will disappear leaving only blank boxes behind.

6. Menu selection sounds from the options menu and inventory sometimes play while the menus are not open. There have also been times where certain settings (like mouse and controller sensitivity) have changed without me doing it.

7. The logs that are found in the levels sometimes get stuck displaying the same log in all levels. This can happen even after finishing later levels.

8. I'm not certain if this is a bug, but when equipping a weapon while picking it up it will equip to Slot 2 rather than Slot 1 if there is no existing weapon equipped. [Update] This actually seems to be based on what weapon was active at the time both weapons were dropped.

9. I'm not certain if this is a bug, but the health bar sometimes seems to become very faded making it look like there is no health at first glance.

10. There are sometimes small glowing pieces left floating in the rooms. I'm not certain what these are from.

11. I once picked up a bullet ammo pack and it appeared as if the orange polygonal glow from around it was covering my ship and blocking my view until the ammo pickup would have disappeared anyway.

12. The screen shake when boosting is sometimes absent.

13. Chests are sometimes stuck in room decorations such as pipes.

14. Certain options like Dynamic Lights don't have a clear indication of what they do, or don't seem to do anything.

15. Not exactly bugs, but I'm not sure what the bloom and vertexLit settings in the .json file do.

16. Not sure if this is a bug on the games end or my graphics card manufacturer, but my settings to override the game and have the graphics card manage things (like doing anisotropic filtering) don't seem to do anything.

17. I have had the Level Complete stats screen show information from my previous playthrough, like saying my best weapon was a Flak Cannon even though I didn't use it on that playthrough but the previous.

18. If the launcher is switched while the grenade trajectory beam is active the beam will be stuck on until the grenade trajectory beam is used again.

19. I have started a level with 100 Adv. Missiles which is far beyond the maximum.

20. I have had the map indicate a room to be open but it would have a wall in the way while playing. This most often happens on the crystal cave room type.

21. Not sure if this is a bug, but it feels like I only seem to find first or second tier weapons to obtain. Any weapons not in these tiers would need to be crafted. I have only ever obtained Adv. Missile weapons through crafting. The current sublevel doesn't seem to have much effect on item drops.

22. The boost recharge sound sometimes keeps playing even after the boost has fully charged.

23. When clicking to craft items the sound sometimes plays without leaving the menu, if the player escapes out of this menu the crafted item will not appear and items used to craft it will disappear.

Have you updated the game today? :)
