Sure, developer can use Steamworks DRM methods, if they chose to, but that is not a requirement.

Steamworks offers an easy way to integrate leaderboards and other community features, I can fully understand that an indie studio does not want to implement all that stuff on their own if there is a perfectly working solution available to them.
You want to miss all those features just because its than on gog?
Anyway, I already bought strike suit zero on gog, so gog is the version I will support. I will buy infinity on day one when it comes out on Good Old Games. I can't wait. I'm looking forward to it. ;)

And if one day for a reason or another steam crash and valve close is door, you can say goodbye to all your steam games... if gog close, no probleme my games are save on a hard drive...
so steam is evil....

But I agree, offline mode of steam could need some usability improvements. It got some last year iirc, but it is still far away from perfect. Even when it works for me, it is annoying for example that you can not bring multiple accounts into offline mode and can not switch between different accounts offline.

I beg to differ here : what 's client allow is only a backup , that's different to an installer.
so if you need to restore the game , you need the client.
All Steamworks games sold with a box , come to this form.
Personnaly i would legaly forbid this kind of method to sell a boxed game ; you don't have a copy of a game you a backup ; that's not the same thing.
even if in the end you get the final product.
And top of that many customers are fooled by this, because when u insert the disc in the drive , the client try to download the game , instead of using the restore option -> this is a silly approach.

I don't care about "random player #21324"'s highscore, hacked or not. I also don't care about the game automatically posting said highscore on facebook, twitter, myspace or whatever. That crap is wasted dev time for me, and even if Steam provides an easy interface for this it still takes time to implement & test.
I care about the high score of my wife. I care about the scores of my friends, its funny to beat their high score or get beaten. A motivation to do a level again to beat their scores, or beat my own.
The community features are really community features not some random posting to scrapbook.

I backed Strike Suit Zero on Kickstarter via Paypal at the $150 tier:
/STRIKE COMMANDER. In addition to the t-shirt and deluxe artbook, you'll also become a life-time subscriber to the Strike Suit universe. You'll get all future content for the game - missions, weapons, new suits etc - on the day of release.
I'm not 100% certain, but I think that being "a life-time subscriber to the Strike Suit universe" would include Strike Suit Infinity on the digital platform of my choosing.

Disregard the facts all you like Steam is a turd covered with a bit of sugar so easy customers like you see achievements and forget the valid reasons as to why these DRM schemes are extremely bad for customer privacy and for the PC market in general.
The PC has always been an OPEN market and Steam's only purpose (As with GFWL, Origin, UPlay) is to fragment the market into consolised brackets. I laugh at the 'Community Features'. PC games used to come with their own P2P client side servers, dedicated servers, friends lists, in-game achievements. Community features used to be in-game not controlled by companies and/or third party software. If anything we have gone backwards.
I do not understand your mentality, you're extremely emotional & defensive over a piece of useless software. This is PC gaming - Steam does NOT equal PC gaming.
I refer you to my post on this exact topic;

If you enjoy using Steam, that is fine - to each their own. But do not try and ram your opinions down others throats because they disagree with you. You are posting on a Digital Distribution website that sells DRM-Free video-games. What kind of answers did you expect there Tony Blair?
Run along now, go and collect some more hats.

Steam isn't going anywhere. Sure, it's possible that a privately held company pulling in over a billion dollars in profit per year will crash and burn, but it is FAR more likely that CD Projekt RED will sell GOG to Valve, and your hard drives will be lost in the rioting as your national government collapses.
