ussnorway: if people have Galaxy then your current best option is 3.1 ... what I'm using
all the 3.2 builds are different stages of busted since the ocean dlc having been pushed onto users without even basic testing

once the Steam only beta of 3.3 is finished later this month there should be some hope for fixes but Paradox will kick it out the door in any state so your guess is as good as any other

EastwindOrig: I think the above advice is now dated.

3.3 is out, for one thing, but I don't like the changes. Anyway, I'm still finishing up my 3.2 game under 3.2.2. I never had any trouble with that version, and I hear complaints about new bugs in 3.3 (of course). I don't think you need to go back to 3.1, but of course you can if you wish.
yes it out and the major bug is still not fixed... dev teams say it is on the Paradox forum but that is bullshit!

if you spend two points to get full psi your main race will NOT get the correct trates and you can't even upgrade them [see still bugged]

the work around is to uplift your own main race [see can't work] but doing this means your main race can't work jobs until they upgrade and it tip takes at least 3 times to get them all done because the game will make new members before its finished

what shits me most about this bug was that its been reported for a year, dev teams have come onto the forums saying bullshit about it being fixed or nothing is wrong and nothing gets fixed because the next Dlc is due out and there is no time for actual testing things work so if you buy Paradox games, buyer beware... the cake is a lie

That's interesting. I didn't know you could uplift your own race, how do you do that? Is it in vanilla or do you need a dlc?

I didn't get psi with my race to start with, so this is all news to me. Are you still preferring 3.1 because the bug didn't exist then?

rant about devs fixing bugs:

When I worked at microsoft a full dev cycle for a release of our product was 2 years. In that time there were only two milestones for "coding new features", each only a month long. The entire rest of the two years was spent in bug fixing (partly because everyone would just chuck the code in as fast as they could type it during the short "coding" milestones in order to get "done" where "done" meant some features were completely broken because they hadn't had time to write them anywhere near correctly.

if (normal case) {
//-- some code here
} else {
// how do I handle this case?
ASSERT(0);
}

kind of stuff. They in bug fix mode the management would all go goo goo over the dev who was checking in five bug fixes a day. If you ask me he *had* to have left a ton of trivial bugs that he should have fixed when writing the code in the first place in order to be able to do that, but the management couldn't figure that out.

And *still* with that culture they ship tons of known bugs because toward the end they start saying the bug is too risky to fix - likely the fix will introduce more bugs or introduce a bug worse than the one being fixed.

And people ask why MS software is crap. Or why paradox software is crap. It's because of the management and the culture and the processes and above all what they reward the devs for - and I guarantee you it aint for bug-free code.
yes its called "assimilation" and basically means making a non physic race into a physic one.
yes it works on your main race although until the dev team fucked the bed with Aquatic Dlc this wasn't a thing because your main race would all be physic or not physic i.e, one or the other

yes its [assimilation] is in the base game even if you don't have any Dlc

as a rant on bugs its just that every mod on Paradox forum chants 'report bugs' then closes threads in witch people report bugs because it upsets sales to point out the dev team didn't fix this bug yet so be aware that reporting bugs will get you in trouble there

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I just thought one good rant deserved another :)
I am not on the paradox forum at all.

Hi all,
Had the game for a long time and only decided to try download it again and play it.
Reading the comments - is 2.1.4 still the optimal one to play with still at moment?. Ill need to check which versions i had downloaded in the past but are any of the version since then any good? (least amount of issues?)

I'm running 3.4.5 just fine. I tried 3.5.3 and it will crash while loading data after pressing continue game.
3.5.3 and it seems to work well
