Anyone know how to fix the ingame music?
What kind of issue do you have with the music?

The music is working just fine over here. What kind of problem do you have?
Probably his music freezes or enters in a loop. That's a common problem with XWA and multicores. It also affects cutscenes, lagging/stuttering them.

Just set the game (xwingalliance.exe) to work with a single core and you will be fine. You can do it manually each time you launch it, or use something like Runfirst to force it automatically.

Kharnete, thanks. Can you please explain how to use RunFirst? I got the RunFirst.exe, how to set it to run XWA on one processor each time it launches?

Put the RunFirst.exe to your XWA folder, and go to the properties of your XWA shortcut (the one GOG's create in your desktop, or create a new one). There, change the target path to:

"x:\theroutewhereyouhavethegameinstalled\RunFirst.exe" XwingAlliance.exe

In my case, for instance, I would change the target path from "D:\jocs\gog\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\XwingAlliance.exe" to "D:\jocs\gog\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\RunFirst.exe" XwingAlliance.exe

Once you have done that, just run the game using the shortcut. If you did it correctly, you should see an extra CMD window opening along the game itself.

The only purpose of RunFirst is to force an application to run using a single core, so you don't need to do anything else.
Thanks a lot! I got it it set-up now :)
Worth mentioning that I had RunFirst in my XWA folder already. Maybe it comes with the GOG installation or it's a part of the XWA Upgrade Pack.

You can specify single core affinity using a normal shortcut, you don't need special programs for it.

For instance, for my Rogue Squadron 3D installation I force just my primary core as follows:

Target:
C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "Rogue Squadron 3D" /d "C:\Games\Star Wars - Rogue Squadron 3D\ROGUE" /high /affinity 1 "C:\Games\Star Wars - Rogue Squadron 3D\ROGUE\Rogue Squadron.EXE"

Start in:
"C:\Games\Star Wars - Rogue Squadron 3D\ROGUE\"

Every time I try to do this, it says its not valid. what am I doing wrong? my original Target reads as such: "C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\Alliance.EXE" and here is what I put: "C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\RunFirst.EXE"Alliance.EXE

There are two problems there. One, you are targeting the wrong alliance exe. You must use XwingAlliance.exe, not Alliance.exe. The former is the game itself, the later just the launcher.

The second issue is the lack of space before the last .exe. It should be:

"C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\RunFirst.exe" XwingAlliance.exe

You can also try Korells solution. That would be:

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START "X-Wing Alliance" /d ""C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance" /high /affinity 1 ""C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\XwingAlliance.exe"

Hey Thanks! worked great!
I've experienced the Music Loop Bug as well, Dualcore System.

Setting Affinity fixed that, but caused a huge FPS-Loss in other Situations. I've replaced half of all Ships with their single Ship Installers, and in the Calamari Hangar, it goes as low as 15 FPS if looking in certain Directions, overall 20 FPS. If I'm running on both Cores however, it stays on a solid 31 FPS.

On single Core, I've been killed or hit rather hard quite a few Times yet, because the whole Game suddenly began to stutter so I couldn't fly properly. It's been smooth before and after, just for a few Seconds each Mission, but those few Seconds of what felt like 0.1 FPS were vital to me and put me out of Action.

Been playing the Game nicely back then on Win2k, CPU below 1GHz, 800 MHz if I recall correctly...
And now I'm having Problems with Single Core of 1.2 GHz...? Huh.

So, for now I'll try disabling the In-Flight Engine Music, and run the Game on all Cores. If I don't run into Problems and the Slowdowns are gone, I'll happily fly without Music. Rather that than flying Missions all over again because at some vital Moment, the Game reduces itself to a Slide Show.

First, I would like to thank you for your help.

I have downloaded RunFirst into my XWA folder, and set the target path for the shortcut as you instructed. I got the game to launch with RunFirst okay, but now instead of the music getting caught in a loop once in a little while, the music and cut scenes stutter *a lot*. They don't get caught in the stutter for ever though, just for a few seconds at a time. It's not like how the music would loop permanently (until I quit the game) when I wan't using RunFirst. But the frequency in which the music and cut scenes stutter when I use RunFirst is much higher then the looping I had without RunFirst.

If anyone has any insight as to what is going on and if there is anything I can do to fix it, I would appreciate it greatly. If the info helps, I'm running with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with an Intel Core i7 4770k @ 3.5 Ghz

Help me GOG forum users, you're my only hope :)

Some time before GOG released the XWA I installed the retail CD version on my Win 7 64-bit using custom MSI installer by Markus Egger. And had the same issue as you describe - looping music, I didn't searched the web for solution as the first thing I did I set compatibility to Windows 98 on the executable. It fixed the music but it made cutscenes really choppy (mostly at the beginning of the cutscene). Wasn't able to fix that, but the game was completely playable at this point so I give it a rest. I could always watch the cutscenes later with the compatibility option turned off.

Note that with GOG version when I set colligation of the exe to one core, everything runs fine - cutscenes as well as music.

Just wanted to point it out, maybe it can led someone with greater knowledge to the solution.
