Destex: Kharnete, thanks. Can you please explain how to use RunFirst? I got the RunFirst.exe, how to set it to run XWA on one processor each time it launches?
Kharnete: Put the RunFirst.exe to your XWA folder, and go to the properties of your XWA shortcut (the one GOG's create in your desktop, or create a new one). There, change the
target path to:
"x:\theroutewhereyouhavethegameinstalled\RunFirst.exe" XwingAlliance.exe
In my case, for instance, I would change the target path from
"D:\jocs\gog\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\XwingAlliance.exe" to
"D:\jocs\gog\Star Wars - X-Wing Alliance\RunFirst.exe" XwingAlliance.exe Once you have done that, just run the game using the shortcut. If you did it correctly, you should see an extra CMD window opening along the game itself.
The only purpose of RunFirst is to force an application to run using a single core, so you don't need to do anything else.
First, I would like to thank you for your help.
I have downloaded RunFirst into my XWA folder, and set the target path for the shortcut as you instructed. I got the game to launch with RunFirst okay, but now instead of the music getting caught in a loop once in a little while, the music and cut scenes stutter *a lot*. They don't get caught in the stutter for ever though, just for a few seconds at a time. It's not like how the music would loop permanently (until I quit the game) when I wan't using RunFirst. But the frequency in which the music and cut scenes stutter when I use RunFirst is much higher then the looping I had without RunFirst.
If anyone has any insight as to what is going on and if there is anything I can do to fix it, I would appreciate it greatly. If the info helps, I'm running with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, with an Intel Core i7 4770k @ 3.5 Ghz
Help me GOG forum users, you're my only hope :)
