Hi Folks,

in the root folder of X-Wing, there is a folder for the Game Data called "X-Wing Data" plus another one for the content originally being read from CD, called "XWING CD". In that one, we can also find the Music for all cutscenes (as .wav). So far, so understandable.

What puzzles me, is that there is also a folder simply called "Music", in the root folder of X-Wing (e.g. X-Wing\Music). In that one, we can find track02.ogg -> track08.ogg.

track02.ogg is obviously the music running ingame in the 1998 version. But what the heck are the other tracks for? track03 up to track08.ogg consists of orchestral music, which is never played in the game, at least, I haven't noticed it yet.

Anyone knows, what they are there for?

Not sure,
but there are different two CD releases for this X-Wing for Windows 95.
The one I have here has 'X-Wing vs TIE Fighter: Flight School' on the same CD as X-Wing 95.
The other CD that came with this box has only TIE Fighter for Windows 95 on it.

Now that you mentioned that several music tracks are never played, it may be possible that the additional tracks were only for XvT: Flight School...
I just checked it, the GoG release .ogg files match the tracks of the combined X-Wing 95 + XvT:Flight School CD.

Track02.ogg [ 17:27 ] used as Track02.ogg in TIE95. XvT full has a longer variant: [27:22]
Track03.ogg [ 3:25 ] classic starwars scrolling text intro
Track04.ogg [ 1:25 ] ?
Track05.ogg [ 3:00 ] used as Track03.ogg in TIE95
Track06.ogg [ 1:37 ] ?
Track07.ogg [ 3:38 ] used as Track04.ogg in TIE95. Menu music of XvT
Track08.ogg [ 1:32 ] classic starwars scrolling text intro, shorter version
Hi gerwin79,
when you say, used as Track##.ogg in TIE95, you mean XWING95 right? ;)

So, the Music files are used for XvT, except for Track02.ogg, which is the flying Background Music.

I am interested, because I think about revamping all cutscene Music with the original orchestral score by J. Williams.

Did mean TIE95 where I wrote it. As to X-Wing 95: all the listed files are there, and I cannot definitely say which ones are used where. I always stuck to TIE Fighter myself, and that game has the cutscene music in midi format (DOS) or in .wav files (windows 95).
