tinyE: There are all these tutorials but nothing on basic camera control. XD
By that I mean they show you how to move around but nothing on how to pick out units during a fight or focus on specific units at any time. Am I missing something here? :P
I'm trying the 1st tutorial battle and the camera is all over the place.
You can pick out units by clicking on them in the main view or, if shown, in the empire view at left. In heavy battles, you may need to zoom in to get enough precision that you select the unit you intend. You can pin units in the empire view to make them permanently available. Game preferences may cause some types of units to become pinned when they are created.
Like many older RTS games, such as Starcraft, you can establish a "control group" of units by pressing Ctrl+#, and recall it later by pressing #. Unlike Starcraft, the game does not impose a 12 unit limit per group. I have not yet had a fleet big enough that it exceeded the allowed group size. There is a keybinding, which I changed from its default, for centering on the sub-selected unit. Look in Options -> Key Bindings -> Camera, item "Focus on Selection" to see or change your binding for that command.
