Morel: Hey All
Yeah - I'm from the dev team ;)
So - the Linux version is now live.
I hope you guys will like it!
Best and Merry Christmas!
Thanks a lot! In the GOG game tailer it shows GOG galaxy in the end. Since Galaxy ist not available for Linux and other games already required Galaxy for online multiplayer, can you confirm Shing online multiplayer works for Linux?
JMB9: Well, after a lot work leading to nothing I am a little bit tired trying to improve the Linux situation on GOG.
I think if a share of the excessive marketing for Cyberpunk 2077 (and I don't think a comment of the technical
side is needed) would have been put into Linux support (e.g. improving webpages, getting new developers,
start official Ubuntu 20.04 Focal support - cough ...) it would be better concerning the Linux users.
I got the impression that while GOG did a lot to get Linux ports in former times this is no longer the case.
Currently I am collecting ... and do have much more points than would be reasonable to mention to GOG support:
more like an avalanche.
I got several times remarks from GOG about future work (e.g. getting working version of broken Linux port - still
advertised as being available for Linux - still broken - or putting my points to the Linux team etc. - without any reply).
Most developers are much more open than GOG is to a direct customer.
Trying to get some nice Linux games (accompanied by other supported platforms not that important ;)
I got feedback about a high hurdle to get on GOG to having been told by GOG that their game "is for
the non-GOG audience" - a game which I would also instantly buy. Reading this was like an explosion.
Nice to know that I am not part of the GOG audience ... maybe they should clarify that point somewhere ...
and maybe they know thereafter that they got a very wrong impression of "their audience", which had been
people wanting good games and play it for tens of years - not people wanting photorealistic games which may
work for a short time - after a long time of bug fixing - if supporting standards not available on release date.
Games without heart and soul - after my taste. Ok, I said such comments are not necessary ... but ...
Concerning this thread: I wrote a mail to developers about Shing! directly which would have been an instant buy for me ...
but did not get an answer - but this statement above rise hope a little - and maybe my mail was received.
But concerning GOG I have to come to the impression that I am not welcome as using Linux only and wish for
high quality games - and even try to help which is also not welcome (I am not interested in words, but corrected
websites, corrected start scripts, GOG contacting developers - which seems to be the gamers' part ...).
And I am no longer sure if it would be good thing to see developers here on GOG if they are treated similar to what
I have experienced till that day.
And this 4 digit login terror pseudo-security mechanisms is more than annoying ... with more than 15 minuted till a mail arrives
(in seldom cases - but it is enerving even if it comes after ~30 s).
So I don't think the current direction is positive for technical people.
I still hope for a change - as GOG should see that what they are doing may not be in the best interest of their customers.
But maybe this does not count at all ...
As said ... I am tired.
I understand you but this is not the right thread to discuss this.
