I bought sacrifice recently and have run into some issues that make the game pretty much unplayable.
Here are my specs:
Windows 7 RC 64 bit
Intel i7 920
6GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 using the 190.38 drivers
I get graphical glitches (see below) accompanied by a massive gameplay slowdown and occasionally the graphics will "smear" as the old frames aren't erased as new ones are added. Anyone else have this problem and maybe know of a solution?
Edit: Just a bit more info, this occurs on all graphical settings and resolutions, although it seems to require more geometry on the screen before it does it at lower settings.

This game is well known for not running well on any somewhat modern video card. That should be displayed more clearly on the game's frontpage. Sacrifice has problems running on any cards that aren't DirectX 7 enabled. Last time I tried running the game, it actually crashed, and had to reboot my pc.
I tried this game on my desktop hoping for better results with no avail. Game crashed faster than on my laptop o_O.
is there any workaround for the modern hardware? mods?
9800 GTX+, 6gb ram, 2.2 pentium dual core
I get this problem aswell, when i launch the game everything is fine but the moment i start the game and try to move my character the game gets all f'd up, frames dropping to extremely low, graphical problems, even got lost of red dots appearing all over the screen one time i keep'd seeing on the screen after i closed the game so i had to restart, really hope there will be some fix for this.
My system is: Intel Core Quad 2,66GHz, Windows 7 64bit, 8ddr3 gb ram, Geforce GT 230
I'm getting this problem too, Windows 7 64-bit, Nvidia 260 latest drivers. Just to say it, compatibility mode does nothing, lowering the setting makes it take longer to crash, and when it does crash it manages to mess up my desktop and I need to restart to fix it.

Try to run the game in Compatibility Mode. Right-click on the Sacrifice icon on your desktop, and select the Compatibility tab. Then click on the ✓Run this program in compatibility mode. Try different operating system modes, such as Windows 95.

Sorry to necro this thread, but even to this date, I still have major glitches when trying to play through Tutorial 1. I've not tried anything else.
My system is Windows 7 32-bit, 2 GB RAM, with a Core 2 Duo @ 2.1 GHz.
I've got a Quadro NVS 320M which is the equivalent of an 8700M GT, and I have the latest drivers (3.29.2010).
The only thing I've applied is the Manual Patch 1e from the Sacrifice Project.
Does anyone have any idea as to what causes slowdowns and glitches? I did try compatibility with Windows 95 but that made it slightly worse. Anyone have settings that possibly work?
EDIT: I've looked a little bit, and it seems it's because I have an nVidia card. Hmm.

Yes I have the same problems on a pretty new system, a quad core at 3.2Ghz with a NVIDIA GTS250 running windows 7 64 bit. After trolling some forums (because people buying this game off of steam have the same problems) the problem seems to be with modern NVIDIA cards.

Confirming that this problem doesn't occur with modern ATI cards, I have a Radeon HD 4670, and the game runs just fine. Apologies for the necro, just wanted to add that information.
I had the same issue with windows 7 64bit and an nividia graphics card. I was able to solve it today ( I hope ) by making sure that SLI was enabled. The game used to crash on me after a short time, even on the lowest possible graphical settings, today I decided to try the game with SLI enabled ( which I didn't realise was disabled, but thats another story ).

Ever since I've been able to play the game flawlessly on maximum detail with all video options on. Obviously, this requires that you have 2 video cards, in my case I have two GTX 275s, I guess the extra power from the other GPU makes the game work idk.

I haven't had time to test this extensively because I had to go to work a couple hours after I made the change, I'll note that my copy of windows is also fully updated and my nvidia drivers are also up to date.

For those of you with 1 video card, I share your pain as I still can't play the game on my laptop which only has 1. Hopefully, a solution will be found soon, I'll keep working on it in any case.
same issue here, W7 64bit, X2 550, GTX 460

Am going to try a myriad of things today to try to get it to work.
I was able to get the game working on my current Nvidia card, before, but at that time I was running it on WinXP Pro with the original CD. I also read on another forum that Patch 3 fixes the problem, so I'm thinking of reinstalling the game from the CD and patching it to see if that makes any difference.

As far as we can tell, the problem seems to stem from the combination of Win7 x64 and Nvidia's drivers.

There is a solution for the nvidia driver glitch as of now:

http://www.sacrificeplanet.net/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=36288

Basically, you have to download the nvidia inspector tool:
http://downloads.guru3d.com/NVIDIA-Inspector-1.94-download-2612.html

Additionally you need the latest drivers

When you launch the tool, click the toolbox button on the right hand side of the dialog, next to the driver version textbox.

Afterwards create a profile for sacrifice.exe in the dialog shown.

Click on the "Scan profiles for unknown settings and values" button on the toolbar (4th from right)

Scroll to the bottom.

The Option "Pre_D3D9_COMPATIBILITY_BITS" should show up. Select the value 0x040 in the combo box unter Setting Value.

Hit Apply

the game should then work as expected
Hi, i have win 7 64 and an ati card, a new one, and i cant make the game work. It just crashes, cant even make it start. I was able to start the game a couple of times, it seems that is random if it starts or not, tho it chashes after one or two minutes in the menus.
Someone knows how to fix this? thanks in advance!
ATI cards do have some problem. My 4890 worked fine but my 6970, I can see through everything. Through land and objects... Really unplayable. Smooth sure but... surfaces are transparent. Still texture there but... not opaque...
What chrisg said above works - I found the solution on the Steam forums.
Here's a detailed step by step of what to do to run Sacrifice on Windows 7 with an Nvidia card:

1) Install the most recent drivers from the nVidia website.
2) Download the program Nvidia Inspector, which allows you to set up custom profiles per game (like Sacrifice). Nvidia Inpector is available from links here: http://majorgeeks.com/NVIDIA_Inspector_d6630.html
3) Extract the files in the download to a directory, and run the executable nvidiaInspector. This will open up a dialog giving various health information about your system.
4) In the middle right-ish of the dialog, to the right of where it list your driver version, is a button with a wrench icon. click it to set up a new profile (you may prompted to allow the program to make changes.)
5) Create a new profile by clicking the small orange 'star' icon on the taskbar at the top of the new window. Name it whatever you wish
6) In the section of buttons immediately to the right of the new profile button section, there is an "Add Programs to profile" button. Click it, and add your Sacrifice executable to the profile. (Mine, for example, is C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Sacrifice)
7) A few button sections to the right is button with an icon of a magnifying glass over some gears. Click this to discover extra options (this may take a moment).
8) Scroll down to the "Unknown" section of values. There will be a setting with the name PRE_D3D_COMPATIBILITY_BITS (0x0090F680). Either using the dropdown or typing it in manually, set the value to 0x00000040. (If selecting from the dropdown, there will be a list of game titles that should use this setting.)
9) Apply the settings, close the inspector, and use your Nvidia compatible copy of Sacrifice!
