Thought I did this yesterday but ----
I've not had problems flying the (so far only) German planes but the Dr-I has been interesting. It seems very touchy and even with the opposing rudder used, it tends to go into a spin-stall when doing its forte', a sharp turn. Any hints for this bear? Sighting is interesting too - seems to be about 1/5 the way down from the crossing cables but keeping her steady is tough.
Mentioning sights, has anyone noticed that the Phalz D-III is modeled with a broken site (just the stem is there which is quite similar to that on the Albatross series planes)?

This question / problem has been solved by Wailwulfimage
Are you talking about STOCK RB3D or HASP?
As to the Dr1, it is a hard plane to fly and I do what I can not too. The modded ones can be even worse, but under the right pilot can do amazing things. I think the secret is a light touch on the JS, which I do not have.

Sorry, I did it again! HASP. So its not just me then. I was thinking a light touch too - not exactly my strong point :( as I've been known to tip over the stick in combat. Maybe that's why I liked the HASP Alb D-III so much.
I can't imagine this without a JS - just using the keyboard (I'd be totally confused!)?

Only plane I have been able to fly successfully in RB3D is the Fokker Eindecker, made a great bomber but no way would I be able to dog fight with it. Did meet two people online years back that flew by Keyboard and were quite good. I think they used SPADs and did boom and zoom tactics.

Wailwulf: Interesting; the E-III actually was more difficult for me then the Albatross series planes. It seemed to have to be forced to fly but did have a handy quirk - a sharp bank with a little rudder and a bit of dive elevator would cause it to change direction 180 degrees almost instantaneously while it dropped like a rock -seemed nearly vertical even though the plane was close to horizontal - good escape move. The Dr-I goes into nasty spin if one tries that.

The buttons do not work? They work for me with that screen, just hard to read. To lose the Hippy look, there are two solutions..

FOf the two solutions one I learned from Stanski, the other from Wulfc, a poster at GOG and from Blizzard itself.

Stanski: Right click on your desktop and select Screen Resolution. Leave the window open and there will be no corruption of the game menu. This works for RB3D only that I am aware of.

However the other solution (Wulfc and Blizzard) not only works for RB3D, it also works for StarCraft 1 and Diablo 1 and other older games. What you need to do is create a batch file that shuts down Explorer while you play the game. Open up notepad and for Starcraft put:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Starcraft.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

Then save as a bat (batch) file instead of a txt (text) file. and place the file in the game folder.

If for Diablo the file would read as:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Diablo.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

So RB3D SP would be:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Baron.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

and RB3D MP would be:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Baronmmp.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

If you use programs such as Reload.exe (SP bullet counter, wind creator, Track IR/Freetrack enabler, two seater enabler, +), RedBullet.exe (MP bullet counter), or TView.exe (MP Track IR/Freetrack enabler), just replace the RB3d exe name with the name of the other program.

I use this batch file to get a few more FPS out of IL-2, I just need to have Track IR, Teamspeak and whatever else I want running, running before running the batch file. For IL-2, I have it start Hypperlobby and have Hypperlobby start IL2.
