I vaguely remember that the original QFG 4 had several game-breaking scripting bugs, where doing certain events in certain orders would prevent later parts of the main quest from ever triggering. Between those and the crash bug after getting the ritual from the swamp, I never did manage to complete the game.

Are they fixed in the GOG version of QFG 4? And if not, can anyone point me to a resource that says how to make sure you don't run into any of them?

I think the GOG version has the latest patches installed, still there are bugs; I, however, so far have only encountered the thief swamp-jumping crash.

Sierra has released this list of remaining bugs in the patched version (there may be spoilers):

Most of the issues that people experienced were linked to the game running too fast (oddly, this didn't seem to be a problem with the floppy disk DOS version), but there were a handful that occurred for other reasons (and the floppy disk DOS version had several that the CD version did not).

The single biggest one to watch for is the domovoi in the inn - you MUST sleep there in the first few days and talk to it when the noise wakes you up, or another critical event becomes uncompletable.
The Domovoi one sounds like it may be what tripped me up. I used to almost completely skip out on sleep, only sleeping if it was almost dawn.

Thanks for the info!
Hmm, I slept in the inn early every night, but it's day 6 and I still haven't had a noise wake me up. I've had a couple dreams (scrying by Katrina and Erasmus) but that's it.

Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I think you have to save the domovoi before it will wake you up, have you done that yet?

*SPOILERS*

The domovoi in the inn wakes you up to ask you to save the domovoi at the monastery.

I think the trigger for this event is talking to various people about the innkeeper, his wife and their daughter.

There are a few mid-sleep events at the inn though, and I can't remember which comes first. There is one where you overhear the innkeeper and his wife, upset about their daughter being missing. I think the first domovoi one is after this point.

Hm, don't recall getting that first encounter when I replayed it recently, and first time I saw it I was thanked for helping him. Are there 2 domovois in the game then, which means my memory is really failing me?

In this case try staying in your room until midnight, then going into the main hall of the inn. The D is a blue, bearded figure that sits above the fireplace.

There is one in the evil monastery, which you need to re-hydrate to save. (although I'm now wondering if this is a Paladin quest?)

That's the one I'm talking about, since it's the one you interact with later on. Is there another that asks you to help this one or not?

The other one is the blue domovoi that appears in the inn during the night. The blue one asks you to re-hydrate the monastery one.

Hm, I always thought it was one domovoi only, probably because if I ever saw the blue asking me to help the brown, I can't recall it.
Live and learn it seems.
I'm encountering a problem I don't remember having when I played this game back when it first came out.

The Leshy riddle sequence seems to be bugged. He gives the first riddle about the bush but if I return with the bonsai in my inventory, he repeats the initial riddle. If I go ahead and plant the bonsai in the garden without his prompting, he won't give me any more riddles.

From the sound of it the Good Old Games version is already patched though, so I'm not optimistic that there's a solution to this problem. :(
I had the same issue. I reloaded and just planted the bonsai without returning to him at all, and this cause the riddle sequence to advance from there.
