I'm glad that GoG has chosen to distribute this title. It shows that they aren't afraid to distribute a classic game just because it might offend a few uptight gamers. If you believe the only way to win Postal is to not play at all, then please, do so. But realize that some people--myself included--actually like to be disturbed. Viewing the thoughts of an aberrant mind can be a fascinating way of understanding both yourself and the dark side of humanity.

meow: GTA I am kind of offended by, personally. But the Postal series is just amusing. If they tried to make Postal 'serious' I probably wouldn't like it anymore.

I don't think I've ever read anything in my life that makes less sense than this.

no, GTAIV tried to be super cereal and it really pissed me off. So much that I hate the game.

So care to elucidate? I'm offended that a lot of games sensationalize criminal activity. While with Postal it's pretty much just bad humor throughout.

Prior to IV, GTA was about running over Elvis impersonators for bonus points and setting marijuana fields on fire with a flamethrower. It's just as off-the-wall stupid as Postal. Your claim that one is somehow more or less worthy of complaint than the other is a bit ridiculous.
...I would of course say that no one should take issue with either, since the games are rated as being suitable for adults.
To be honest, I don't take great issue with either. I would prefer if people didn't make games like this, but that doesn't stop me from playing em. Either way though, while violence in games is based largely in fantasy, theft is a rather large problem in real life and I don't take to games that imply it's the way to go.
Since I find theft offensive, I find games focusing on it offensive. That's pretty much the summary of it.

Luntenfleisch: I gotta say, this is a pretty disapointing thing to happen. The Postal games really shouldn't find new ways of distribution. They are sadistic and stupid, the violence is celebrated to a point where it is simply disgusting.
In a GTA, at least you decide yourself whether or not you kill innocents, this game lets you no choice and actually encourages you to masacre people. What is fun about going postal in a kindergarten?
Meh.

While I respect your views and can see why someone would think this, some people seem to forget ALL video games are a form of escapism. I never take any game seriously, and neither should anyone else.
It's a GAME. It's not real. And right about here I would spin-off into a rant about the media hyping up video game violence being bullshit and how people should know the difference between forms of escapism (those darn vidya games, movies, etc.) and reality, but I'll save the lecture.
I'm glad GoG has brought the Postal series here since, I never got to play the first one, $10 for the entire Postal 2 set is a great deal, and, most importantly, Postal 2's expansion had the dreaded StarForce CD protection on it that I wouldn't put anywhere NEAR my computer. Now I can happily play Apocalypse Weekend when it's released here without retarded copy protection that just makes the game harder to play.
Keep 'em comin', GOG Team! =)

Have you ever played any GTA through to the end? I own all PC versions up to San Andreas, the 360 version of IV, and have played all of the handheld ones. The ability to avoid killing innocents is practically non-existent. Many of the essential missions require you to kill a certain number of people before you can progress in the story.
As for the going postal in a kindergarten comment, as far as I know, and I have researched these games extensively, there are no children in either game and no schools accessable other than in mods some sickos make. You could make those mods with GTA, Spore, Fable, Oblivion, Half-Life, Starcraft, WoW, and practically any other game.
All postal does is provide mindless entertainment and, as the developers say for Postal 2, "Remember... it's only as violent as you are!" I know people who have played through Postal 2 without killing or even attempting to injure anyone. While I personally am not a fan of Postal 1, I will not stop people from or try to persuade them not to acquire it, I will merely state my opinion and leave the decision up to them. I am, however, interested in Postal 2.
Just thought I'd get some info out with my opinion. I will stand by everything in this post, or, if I deem you not worth my time, I will ignore you.
Thank you to all on this and other forums who have kept their posts respectful, stating only factual information and opinions, and not loaded with hateful spite.

I don't respect your views and think you should just not voice your oppinion if you are offended by this. If you want to be offended at something, be offended by something like Somalia's parliament just voting unanimously to introduce Sharia law. Not about a videogame designed as a joke. Put your righteous offendedness to use against something useful, not against entertainment. Your post is also ridiculous to the extreme in that most games, movies and books are in some way about death, murder, adultery, theft, and other things that are exciting. Exciting because they're not part of our every day life. Get a grip.

An indoctrinated german, I see. Go vote against videogame censorship in your country and be HAPPY that things like this are available. You don't want it? Fine. Don't buy it. Do I want it? Yes. Is it harmless? Yes. Should I be banned from having it because you and your country is slowly returning to a state of total censorship in lieu of Hitler's 3rd reich or Stalin's dictatorship? No. Get off your high chair or use it for something useful instead of railing against innocent entertainment.

Get a grip on what exactly? I couldn't care less what Somalia's government does. If I can't do anything about it, I'm not going to cry about it.
Theft is a little closer to home. And as I said, I've played both series so I'm hardly being righteous. I just think games that sensationalize criminal activities are harmful to the people that play them.
I just can't see how Postal could possibly be any more offensive than anything else is all.
I'll stop voicing my opinion when I'm dead or banned, and I doubt anything I've said would get me banned so...
You don't have to be violent in Postal 2, and it doesn't promote violence either. Infact it speaks out against it.
Thank you, Jack Thompson Jr.
I'll have to be honest: the GTA games are as bad as the Postal games. Even though GTA IV tries to be "serious" your still doing bad things...and it doesn't really bother the main character to much.
Can't really take a moral high ground if you play GTA in my honest opinion. Both series are about doing bad things to people. Postal 2, it seems, does give you the option to not do the things..even if they goad you in to doing them ;) In GTA it is often scripted in to the game play itself.

I assume you mean me.
You have climbed the tower of irrelevance, and your prize is a dead pigeon.
Excuse me while I go back to Mirror's Edge and Fallout 3.
