Just looking at the list of abilities in this game, and I noticed that, if you go down the Trickster Mythic Path, you get an ability called Sneaky Quack, which allows for sneak attack dice to be added to healing. I find this to be a rather interesting and unusual mechanic, and I'm wondering how one would optimize a character to take advantage of this.

I'm thinking along the lines of something like this:
* Arcanist with Nature Mage archetype. (Gives Druid spells, but with Int and as arcane spells; in particular, this includes the Cure Wounds spells and Heal.)
* Arcane Trickster prestige class. (Advances both sneak attack and arcane spellcasting. (Can you use Nature Mage to qualify? For the tabletop version of Arcane Trickster, this wouldn't work because this archetype doesn't get mage hand.)
* After taking the mythic path, can choose Reuse Magic Device when it becomes available. (Does Sneaky Quack work with wands?) Can also get Use Magic Device 3 to also get access to the entire wizard spell list, if I understand it correctly, which means this character has 3 spell lists available eventually (don't forget the Trickster path's mythic spell list.).
* Of course, other abilities to take advantage of sneak attack damage, like feats to improve rays, and perhaps Reach Spell and/or Boundless Healing (can Sneaky Quack work at range this way?).

So any thoughts? Anything that doesn't actually work in-game? Any other ideas for things I could insert into this build?

Hi dtgreene!
Just read this post and thought it was an awesome idea! Was disappointed to see the lack of responses. Have you played or tested any of this yet? Curious where your thoughts went with it after a couple days.

Haven't played it yet (the only computer I have that the game runs on is a laptop, and it's awkward to have to use the mouse on a system where the "mouse' is really a trackpad), but I've still been thinking about it.

Also, I've thought of other ideas, after looking at the classes:
* Unlettered Arcanist could also work. (Witch spell list, and can still go Arcane Trickster.)
* Sanctified Slayer, an Inquisitor archetype, gets sneak attack and healing magic.
* Sylvan Trickster gets sneak attack and the witch's hex, which includes Healing and Greater Healing. (Also, Life Giver.)
* Can wands trigger Sneaky Quack? If so, that means simply having a good UMD, Reuse Magic Device, and a healing wand (even if it's just Cure Light Wounds) should work.

On the other hand, this build is not likely going to be my first playthrough (and there's no guarantee I'll like the game enough to replay it, seeing as I actually didn't like the Baldur's Gate series). For my other playthroughs, I'm thinking something like this:
* Oracle with the Lone Strider archetype (increased mobility) and the Life mystery (good healing). Angel path, so even better healing and anti-demon powers.
* Witch with the Mercy patron (in the computer game, gets me Inspiring Recovery (ranged heal + undo death) and I believe Mass Heal). Azata path. The idea here is a "revolving door of death" set-up, where I can have a character die during the fight, then retreat (while dead!) to my main character, at which point she can revive them with Life Giver (resurrection without the material component, but requires 18th level); then use Second Breath to regain the use (if that works) and that one Azata spell that cures permanent negative levels without a material component.

Those all sound cool too! And yeah I'm in a similar boat where I haven't been able to play yet but should be able to over the winter break so was just thinking about how I want to play it. I also know myself with these games and I'll imagine a world where I do multiple play-throughs (e.g. every mythic path, good/neutral/evil runs, different companion mixes, etc) but in the end will be lucky to finish the game once. I stumbled onto your post when I was thinking about a sylvan trickster - trickster build using UMD 3. TBD on Str or Dex variant (it doesn't make sense but I'm drawn to a 2H sneak attack rogue build and simultaneously drawn to a TWF Dex Bloodrager build.... obviously 2H would make more sense on the BR and TWF more sense on the rogue....) -- but the main idea there would be that Int early helps with DC for hexes and add skill points, then in the later levels I'd add on a full wizard spellbook.
Anyways - good luck with getting everything sorted out so you can finally play, and picking one of those cool build ideas!

You can get a wireless mouse. A trackball might be more ideal if your physical space is limited.

The problem, in both cases, is that now I need two objects rather than one to play the game, which doesn't work so well if I want to play the game in bed, which is the whole point of a laptop for me.

It would be much nicer to use a desktop-like setup for playing mouse-heavy games. (Also, I wish they wouldn't make the game mouse heavy; it would be much better if they at least made it possible to navigate menus like character creation without having to constantly use the mouse.)

Personally, what I think we need is an RPG that:
* Is short (I'm thinking about the lines of SaGa 1, which was meant to be cleared in around 8 hours)
* Has enormous build variety

That way, it would not take long to finish the game, and then we could immediately play it again with a different build. (Or, if the game has multiple routes and/or quest outcomes, make different decisions in them.)

Just discovered the Shadow Shaman, which would be perfect. Full divine casting (using the Shaman list) and sneak attack (every 3rd level) in the same class. That's perfect for this build.

(Incidentally, a Shaman with the Life mystery can get the spell Mass Heal before any other build that doesn't involve the Angel mythic path.)
