Is the game finally in a somewhat bug-free and playable state 2 years after release so I can try it?

I'm currently doing a plathrough and experience almost no bugs. The game still has support, so there are still patches released. Sometimes they can break a thing or two while fixing other things, but it's nothing you should worry about. So yes, the game is in a good state now and it's fully playable. :)
I started with 2.08 which seemed pretty solid, which I played with a few mods (including the turn-based one).

I upgraded to 2.1.0h, the first version of the Definitive edition that had integrated turn-based mode and that had a pretty nasty bug where it wouldn't save the game at a certain point (it would say it was, but it wouldn't).

2.1.0i & 2.1.0j were both broken from the start since they didn't work with DLC's, so I was stuck with 2.1.0h (with the save game bug) until they released the 2.1.0k.

2.1.0k had a few annoying bugs, like the left side hotbar making an appearance during transitions, or party members in turn-based mode that you had lost control of (due to status effects), freezing up during their turn and requiring a switch to real time mode to get things working again.

2.1.1 Fixed the above problems with 2.1.0k and also introduced a round counter for status effects (eg buffs), which was a nice QOL improvement.

I have found that I managed to obtain a duplicate item for one of the relics for the storyteller which bothered me until I realized I had already had obtained that story and the item was in fact a duplicate.

There are also abilities that don't work as described (True Seeing does not work against Blur / Displacement despite being in the description, and Blind-Fight works for ranged attacks despite being described as a melee only ability).

I think it is in pretty good shape overall despite the few issues I have with it (touch wood, I still have yet to complete my first play through!).

No, you can't.

Basically, if you want this kind of game to be "bug-free" then you better play something else. I'm sure games with DRM and microtransactions are essentially bug-free.

Perhaps it is a translation issue, but "somewhat bug-free" is not the same as "bug-free".

It means (at least to me) that the OP isn't expecting the game to be completely bug-free, just they want to get a feel for the current state of the games bugs.

There is no need to go tell the OP that this isn't the game for them if they aren't happy with the state of the game; and the DRM and microtransaction arguments have absolutely nothing to do with the OP's topic.
It is absolutely playable and the official support for TB mode makes it close to perfection (for me at least).
With 2.1.1 I encountered very minor issues here and there (as already mentioned by Jamie.monro, except I didn't encountered the duplicate issue) but nothing really game breaking or annoying.
I didn't finish the game yet (+150 h played so far) but I would definitely recommend it (ahem... in TB mode that is).

Then the game is perfectly playable for a year at least. The patch 2.0.8 from January 2020 was stable until the console release, and it seems the problems that the console release brought are being solved rapidly.

So even by calendar Pathfinder: Kingmaker is playable far longer than not.

It is. Microtransactions are, basically, a money printing press, so the demand for bug-free experience - and so the budget - is far higher than for a dream creation of a small independent studio.
My experience so far has been very smooth. The only bug I've encountered so far was one where the area transitions stopped working. Closing the game and restarting solved that issue, and it never happened to me again.

I am about 60% through my current playthrough on version 2.08 and I've not come across anything that diminished my enjoyment. In fact, the only thing NOT running perfectly fine is some NPCs using one or two spells at the start of combat (as per here: https://www.gog.com/forum/pathfinder_kingmaker/ai_using_spells and even that is hardly a "problem".

Go ahead, give it a play, it's well worth it. :)

I am on 2.0.8 as well, and NPC's have never used any spells unless explicitly ordered to do so. Thus I strongly suspect that the situation is more complicated than it is described.

It very much looks to be a problem local to my machine, not a bug, yeah. Should have clarified that (but I DID link my thread ;) ).

Thank you so much for this rundown of the recent versions! I just experienced the save game issue in 2.1.0h in the season of bloom and came to the forums here to see if anyone else had experienced it. I was starting to get really worried that I would be stuck there for who knows how long until they came out with another patch - IF they came out with another patch.

To give my 2 cents on whether this game is payable:
Aside from the admittedly major save game issue, I haven't really experienced anything else. The only issue I can think of was a couple of times while in turned-based mode I had to switch to real time and then immediately back to turn-based because it wouldn't transition to the next characters turn. But that only happened 2 or 3 times total and I'm midway, or perhaps near the end, of chapter 3.

Also, I LOVE turn-based mode. I'm so glad I waited for it to be released before I started playing.

I personnally find the game a pretty mockery ! We now are to the tenth update after the supposed "definitive" one. Version 2.0.8 was stable and I had about 2000 hours of play. Then came the so called "definitive version" and his bunch of f%£ù*#g updates ! All of my saves where messed up and are unable to load. On top of that I discovered some really cool mods but same results ! Not playable after the updates. So thinking about the next Owlcat game to come "Wrath of the righteous", I'm pretty sure that it 'll have the same problems ! So I'll buy it... in 2025 and for a no more expensive price than 4.99€ with all its DLC of course !!! Pfff "Wrath of the righteous" ! Wrong name ! "Threat of neverending updates" seems far more appropriate !

It's true that the patches often introduce new bugs while fixing older ones. But we can't say that the game is in a bad state at the moment. There are occasional problems here and there, but it's not bad.

I mean I did try it for a few hours and immediately threw it in the trash bin as it's already obvious during character creation that they couldn't be bothered to provide proper in-game explanations: you're either a Pathfinder veteran who knows the mechanics, or you're forced do read a lot threads/post outside of the game to even understand the basics.
