I see a multiplayer option in the game, but as the game card only lists single player I am guessing this is disabled, even for LAN?

No, it's not disabled. I just forgot to tag multiplayer as an option on the game card. Should be fixed in a few. Thanks :D
Great! And we don't need to request a cd-key?

For LAN play, no. Unfortunately, I have dug a bit deeper and it seems like multiplayer over the net may be a problem. Sorry for the confusion.

That's alright. There are other games like that in the catalog. So long as the game card is clear on it. VPNs are an option for playing online.
Wait, it has multiplayer? I have this game for ages and didn't know about that! (maybe because I played just a few times despite the game being good)
Oh well, I guess I'll buy it here sooner than I thought.
Frankly, it should have been fairly obvious it had multiplayer from the main menu screen alone. =P It also clearly states in the manual - but who reads those silly things, anyway? - that features a Versus Slaughter / Pillage mode and Co-op Survival.

Hell, it even comes with a working local splitscreen feature, which really surprised me as that is a rarity these days, especially when it comes to PC games - I'm wondering whether it's a pleasant leftover of its possible console origin. Anyway, for that you'd actually need a controller for the second player to fully enjoy. Seems to work just fine as I did a quick test with my flightstick just to see if it would work, but that one doesn't have the right buttons for good play.
Will anyone play this with me using LANoi Pro? I'm really interested in seeing what the multiplayer is like, and it seems the online version of it is serverless or otherwise unaccessable from the GOG install. Here is the invitation file and the password is "overlord" (without the quotes and note there's no capitalization.) LANoi Pro can be downloaded and there is a tutorial [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YC27s07z-4]here. I am going to wait for a few minutes now for someone to join, otherwise, please reply here with a time and time zone when you would like to play and I'll say if I'm available.
How exactly we can play the Multiplayer?
I tryed yesterday for a couple of hours to play it but we didn't manage to do it.

I tryed with LANoi Pro, i've enabled the upnp then when i wanted to join the invitation the software still sayed that i didn't enabled the upnp.
Then i tryed with Hamachi but didn't work that way too, every time the game couldn't find the LAN Room saying that "No sessions we're found" .
I tried port forwarding, something NWN required that I do for hosting over the wireless connection, I am hoping that fixes it. According to a web seach, the port Overlord uses is 3074.

Could you possibly give a more detailed explanation? The servers are now offline? They don't work with the GOG version? You aren't authorized to distribute unique keys?

As far as MP over the net goes, I *think* it was an issue with the official servers not being online but I am not 100% sure as I am at home.

If you want to try multiplayer, I believe Hamachi is your best bet.

Thanks, I see the card is updated to tell us that the servers are offline. I don't think that was there before unless I missed it. I am going to try Comodo Unite, as the free version of Hamachi is limited to 5 users per network and Unite has a nicer interface.
Hey rawmilk905,

Did you have any luck with Comodo Unite? I just downloaded it and am hoping to try it out. I was wondering if it worked for you and whether you had to do any special configurations to get it to work?

Thanks!
It did work! I had to fuss with some router/firewall settings to let the game communicate, and I couldn't tell you now exactly what I did, except that I read over the tutorials on the Comodo site and some general information on VPNs until I finally got it right but now it is working like a charm and I've found that the lag experienced on many game servers is hardly an issue with the VPN. I wish I could give clear instructions but I'm not sure exactly what I did. I used port forwarding on my router to send data on ports used by Unite directly to my PC. If you want to try playing PM me and join my network, "rawlan." (No password, leave it blank.) You should be able to chat over the network regardless and if you are having issues getting the game to see the network, as I did initially, we can at least troubleshoot it from there. Perhaps we can even construct a tutorial for others who want to set it up.

I also tried playing Sacrifice, which was the smoothest running multiplayer game I think I'd ever seen, indistinguishable from running it single player. I also have GOG games like Spellforce, the Earth Series, and I am sure others which suffer from poorly supported or no longer existing online servers and only offer LAN multiplayer.
I'd love to try them out too if you are interested.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'm really glad to hear that it worked. I'm going to have to install Comodo now and see if I can figure out how it works. As for hooking up, playing and such, I really appreciate the offer but due to my current life situation I find it really difficult to pre-plan when I can have time to play. I spend around four hours a day in a car commuting, and have numerous family responsibilities. My gaming time comes in small spurts. Again I really appreciate the offer and if things ever change I may PM you back and see if your still willing.

Thanks!
