My monitor is 16:10, well it will be hard to convert the game to a descent resolution I presume.
Nice release anyway.

eol1: Simply rename the the file to a rar one and replace the inis in your Outcast folder (make a backup first!).
?
and please check your uploaded file ( can't see it )

This worked perfectly on my MSI Wind u100 netbook (running XP). Now running in full screen with not problems. As Skystrider points out, you must change the compatility mode on all three OC exe's.

Right click the link, choose 'save target as', save it on your pc, rename the file to 'something'.rar
thanks
Is there a way to change the resolution without using a user-hack? Those have given me stability issues, and usually anti-virus software has a fit over them (sometimes for good reason).
I read somewhere that there's an ini file you can edit? Is that possible?

not to my knowledge, the highest resolution is the one inside the games setup. it's a voxel game engine - remember.
All these patches screw up the text :\
As anyone tried this from Outcast Support pages?

-Jason told me how to change the resolution in Outcast. Here are the lines you have to change in *every* "PC Spec".ini Remember to back these up files up before performing any type of tweaking!
[performance]
resolution=1280x960
cinemascope=true
crowdlevel=true
ambientsounds=true
bumpmapping=true
highanimationdetail=true
antialiasing=high
chardetail=high
objectdetail=high
prq=high
dof=high
doc=high
AND the Loader.ini...
[firsttimesection]
firsttime=false
level=0
sublevel=18
[performance]
antialiasing=High
voxeldetail=true
bumpmapping=true
highanimationdetail=true
resolution=1280x960
chardetail=High
doc=High
prq=High
dof=High
crowdlevel=true
ambientsounds=true
highobjectdetail=High
cinemascope=false
Now we're not sure if this actually changes the resolution because in the screenshot he sent me it looks like the game just stretched the image to fit the new screen size. Also if the game just switches the resolution back down, you'll have to re-edit the Loader.ini each time the game is launched.

Yeah, I am wary of them for this reason.
I don't really mind the small window honestly, my main desire is to have more AA. Any way to do that?

See config setting in post above. Alternately you could force in your card's control panel.

Unfortunately you can't use your card's control panel to do this - The game doesn't run with any 3D acceleration at all, so you can't force D3D or OpenGL acceleration. I notice there are some files in the install directory and entries in the ini files that make overtures to anti-aliasing, though.

I haven't used any of the 3rd party resolution mods yet but you don't need to change every single pc spec ini file. If you go into the settings menu from the loader you can find out which cpu the game is set to. You only have to edit the corresponding ini file for that CPU (e.g. mine is set to Pentium III 550+ 64 Mb, so I only edited Pentium III 550+ 64 Mb.ini).
Setting 1600x1200 (my desktop resolution) increased the size but not to true fullscreen; I still get a border of 1-2 inches around the edges. I haven't tried every other combination of settings but even at what appears to be full / on everything I still can't remove the border. It is much smaller than the default resolution however.
The effect is of a stretched display rather than a more detailed display but to my eyes at least it's much more playable when it isn't filling a small fraction of the available monitor space.
Altering the Loader.ini only seems to affect the initial video before you get the main menu to start a game / load a game etc. I had previously only changed the Pentium III 550+ 64 Mb.ini file and noticed no difference when editing Loader.ini after passing the main menu.
There are various display options in Outcast.ini but setting those seemed to have no effect. When the game was run it would be set to whatever was in the appropriate cpu.ini file. The Outcast.ini file mentions video and screen height separately but these were reset to defaults each time the game ran. Adding the appropriate lines to the cpu.ini file in addition didn't seem to make any difference. A fullscreen=0 / 1 option is also mentioned but again did nothing in either file.
Each selection you make in your relevant cpu.ini seems to correspond to another ini file in the game directory. Using the example given of everything maxed I think these are the files used:
antialiasing_high.ini
character_detail_high.ini
DOC_high.ini
DOF_high.ini
object_detail_high.ini
PRQ_high.ini
I suspect you could also edit Quality_Control.ini to some effect. I don't know enough about what all of the options available are nor what the game will support but there are plenty of settings there. Antialiasing only contains a number, which may translate as 1 = 1x, 2 = 2x, etc, or may have another internal meaning. It will take a fair bit of trial and error to change all of these and see what happens.

I can play windowed if it's available, 800x600 windowed is a great resolution indeed...any way to tweak to that point?

Yes!!!! Thankyouthankyouthankyou this works perfectly! I did exactly the same, set the res to 1440x900 and the result is an almost full-screen Outcast! There are still some black borders as you say, but it's more than playable now and it looks great :)
You really made my day :)
