I have more than once read just how nasty the terms are at steam, from getting your game into the steam system in the first place to how much of a huge percentage they take from the selling price and other nasty little rules like priority over other platforms like GOG etc with releases, updates etc.

Hello games themselves has preferred steam with the updates and might be the biggest culprit here but steam is also to blame. They have in a sense destroyed the free market, independent game arena with their rules and exclusivity. While I am just as frustrated as you guys and I have this game on both platforms, the Steam just finished downloading, I prefer the GOG setup, just not how slow they are, BUT I am very aware that this may be somewhat out of their hands and it may be that the very platform you are favoring at the moment is the ultimate culprit for the way they have set up to control the game market. IMO there is more evil in their marketing rules and their attempted monopoly that failure in GOG's marketing and updating etc.

Just something to consider. And I say this having spent most of my NMS time on the GOG version rather than Steam. BTW, if you really want to get pissed then be pissed at PS$ and Xbox, they are getting preferential treatment over all PC platforms. Many hours worth....

I know from previous issues that GOG had its hands tied by HG, HG was uploading here last of all.

yeah but that's not actually proof that the update is coming to gog
The Main Page says: NEXT on PS 4, Xbox one, and STEAM
no mention of GoG
Humble also sells Steam-keys

JKing: Keep in mind it may be out of GOG's control: they can only publish what they receive.

LordHogFred: What shouldn't be out of their control is telling us what is going on. There's nothing, at this point we could end up not even getting NEXT.
It's well past office hours in Poland, for a start. Also, they may not know what's going on.
Although I also dislike the lack of PR by GOG regarding NEXT one thing is clear to me: Steam is "premium"/mainstream, except for special exclusive games you will always have to calculate a delay of 1-2 days minimum on GOG. Technology just is this way that software packages and the infrastructure deploying/hosting them can be very diverse. When they get the bits from HG GOG has still to re-package/integrate the stuff in a way their servers and finally the Galaxy Client can understand.

In my view if you choose GOG for its obvious reasons you've got to accept and live with these delays.

The only critique I have is the lack of information about NEXT platform availability on GOG as well as the feature set to be expected compared to other platforms.
I'm not without hope, but the complete radio silence from everyone involved is what has me a little concerned it may not be coming to GOG today or at all.

NEXT has been announced for a long time now. They could have, at any time, said, "this update will happen, we're not sure when, but it will happen" instead we got "we'll have 'news' at some point in time."
Following the usual pattern, I'd have expected the usual X%-Off-Sale that followed all of the major updates. So far nothing here, and as someone mentioned, it's way past the business hours in the EU.

The Steam update came pretty late. I'd say we calm the heck down and wait for tomorrow before breaking out the torches and pitchforks.

Yeah, I'm miffed too, especially since you can't swing a dead puppy around without hitting a NMS news article as we speak, but as of now, there's no one around to answer questions, neither in Poland nor the UK.

Well seems that we have to buy the game off steam to play the NEXT update ... I can`t ask my money back from GOG.com because the 30 days have passed. It would be nice from their part to move the game to steam tho !

So basically they decided to update the game so late that they decided not to update the game for GOG? Either someone's working to put the patch up, or they decided GOG isn't worth their time. Feels great to be a (possibly former) customer of GOG.

NEXT. Coming on the 24th (unless you're on GOG).

This is also an interesting and probable theory, GOG kept in the dark by HG :D Maybe some "Steam first" pampering/troubleshooting. Btw the code repositories show that the public code bits were just changed 2 hours ago with the last change to the internal branch 5 hours ago (https://steamdb.info/app/275850/depots/).

Since I have a timezone similar to if not the same as Poland - being 10:17pm now - I wouldn't have any hopes for a GOG release within the next few hours except they would work nightshifts all the time for all games which I'd consider a kind of slavery ... I'd predict in about 14 hours at noon at the earliest if not late afternoon/evening or probably more realistic Thursday. If we get it all, that is XD

I get the anxiety but I'm going to wait a day or so to let the dust settle and get some OMFG hints from the NMS subreddit.

So far it sounds like all bases are borked, even ones on freighters, so that nice Stasis Device assembly line you had set up is no more. It seems to be possible to build a new base anywhere but to get back even part of your existing planetary base requires the old way of finding an available one and claiming it.

Conflicting reports on the condition of multiple ships on freighters. Some (but not all? (unclear)) ships can be summoned planetside.

Tech all seems to be obsoleted. Many changes to the elements, so even if you could recover your storage units (also unclear) much of the stash is toast.

It's looking more and more like the only viable way forward is a new start. Some things seem to be kept, for example whichever ship you currently had as your prime (probably (also not completely clear (yet))).
