I have spent about 40 hrs in NMS, enjoying every minute of it, but I think I just hit a wall that broke the game for me.

These 40 hours were spent in only 3 star systems, I was thoroughly enjoying my experience of just wondering and exploring. One of the planets I found had Orbs and Cubes galore so I used that as a chance to upgrade my suit to max slots and upgrade things to the point where I felt comfortable starting either the journey inward or follow the path. I decided to follow the path first and while I have not spoiled myself, I have an understanding that I need to follow this path in order to open up more of the game itself. So I choose to do this before heading toward the center and even though I had an upgraded warp drive I only went to the nearest system as I decided to name each progressive system in order to follow the nearest path back to my starting system if I so chose (call me sentimental but this is how I wanted to play the game :). So I got 2 systems in and the next jump was to the Atlas system...discovered by someone else...

OK, that is fine, I went back to my original system and marked it as a waypoint on my galaxy map so I don't need to worry about naming stuff. I went through the system and discovered the planets that the other user neglected and moved to the Atlas station. Got my direction from there and entered my galaxy map to proceed. I moved as for ahead as my warp would allow and found the next Atlas system...discovered already by the previous user...

Part of my experience from this game was finding something new. I know I can just turn around and say “Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning" but I've played enough to the point where I want to Follow the Path, which I still can, but that path now belongs to someone else. It might sound silly, but it kind of broke the immersion for me, the experience I was having (and not some stupid hype I set myself up for BTW ;)

So I guess I'll follow this path to get what I need out of it. My journey inward will still be a personal experience that I am looking forward to...but still...I was enjoying my lonely journey. Good new is this technically makes this game "multiplayer" now so...JK.../rant

With all honesty, if this is what upsets me about the game, that is some damn fine immersion I was experiencing. Hats off to Hello Games for bringing a truly unique experience.

That's one of the reasons that brought me playing totally offline. I don't even have Galaxy installed.
There are other thing breaking the sense of discovery tough, for example the constant presence if outposts, pods, etc. on every planet or moon you visit...

As you guys progress further (or at least learn more of the lore via markers/monoliths), you will find that it's not so much about virgin discovery, but rather personal discovery.

Other than that, this is how I reconcile the constant presence of the other 3 races: We enter the scene post-alien-diaspora (defined as: dispersion of any people from their original homeland). How they got there, why there are only 3 known advanced aliens, what are the Sentinels, what is the Atlas, etc. is part of the discovery process. Maybe we find out via the markers/monoliths more of the lore, maybe this is material for other dlc, but I think there could be a lot of material here. I just don't think it's a big part of this initial gameplay (yet). I'm 2 black holes and 50 warps towards the center of the Euclid so...that's where I'm coming from.
I haven't seen any traces of real players yet, and I'm a grateful for that. But I decided I was going to think of them as updates from these "long dead travelers" who carefully write their logs in beautiful prose before succumbing to space-syphilis. And explain away the "Crotch Prime" and "Knob major" stuff on their late stage delirium

But it's probably pretty bad luck that you would strike on their path so early in the game. As you get closer to the center, it sort of seems likely. But this means you've started the atlas path on a spot close enough to the other guy that you got the same "optimal path" generated for you.

I guess one solution could be to reject the atlas' guidance for now (he's a dick anyway). Travel a bit. And then resume the path(which will be a different one) again later..
Thanks guys, great points here. @nipsen, I have noticed that the other user neglected to hit any star systems between each Atlas system, so I have been discovering them as well as the "Anomaly" stations that pop up here and there. I got my first Atlas pass and after the 3rd one found, I decided to take the priest's advice and go find a Black Hole. Hopefully that will take me away from this path I am on.

Fingers crossed that my next encounter with an Anomaly points me in a new direction!

Just an update. I moved out through 3 Black Holes and then found an Anomaly Station. Asked the Priest to point me back to the Path of Atlas and pointed me in another direction, a newly discovered Path :)

Nice, I was wondering about that too, the path I am on has already been done. It is kind of a let down, to know that whole way, I will be following someone, or many people.

Wow, 2 of us on previously found Atlas paths? Well, if you want to move on to another, just take a couple of Black Hole out. Until you speak to a Priest in an Anomaly the original path does not change. Only after speaking and entering the Galaxy map will it readjust to a new direction. Hope that helps :)

Yes it does, I just got to a new atlas system and it wasn't discovered. The last couple of warps I made were hundreds of light years away. I want to far away from where I was, I kept running into the same systems.
Hey guys I am mostly exploring, not really following path or going to the center of the Galaxy, and I am already played more than 30 hours, what is the difference? How I can see I am in the Path ? Is following the people that fight the Sentinels? I have a bad feeling about the ATLAS, so I prefer to follow this other path...

Honestly...after completing it...keep on doing what you are doing! From my understanding I know of 3 ways to get on the path. 1) There is a round pod next to your crashed ship at the beginning. It asks you if you want to explore or follow The Path of Atlas. 2) If you choose explore, you can come across Crashed Ships through a distress signal. These should also have the round pod next to it. Some of them offer the same options. 3) Find an Anomaly in a star system and enter it. The Priest will offer the same options as the round pod.

Hope that helps :)

The ATLAS is wisdom. Trust the ATLAS.

I really smell something WRONG about the Atlas, since the Sentinels and the robot race are kind of a weird space vegans...

Up at the top of the Galaxy map, you can put the map into three modes, Free Browsing (or whatever it's called), Journey to the Core, and Path to Atlas. If you put it into Path to Atlas mode it will show you the path to the next Atlas system.
