I have spent about 40 hrs in NMS, enjoying every minute of it, but I think I just hit a wall that broke the game for me.
These 40 hours were spent in only 3 star systems, I was thoroughly enjoying my experience of just wondering and exploring. One of the planets I found had Orbs and Cubes galore so I used that as a chance to upgrade my suit to max slots and upgrade things to the point where I felt comfortable starting either the journey inward or follow the path. I decided to follow the path first and while I have not spoiled myself, I have an understanding that I need to follow this path in order to open up more of the game itself. So I choose to do this before heading toward the center and even though I had an upgraded warp drive I only went to the nearest system as I decided to name each progressive system in order to follow the nearest path back to my starting system if I so chose (call me sentimental but this is how I wanted to play the game :). So I got 2 systems in and the next jump was to the Atlas system...discovered by someone else...
OK, that is fine, I went back to my original system and marked it as a waypoint on my galaxy map so I don't need to worry about naming stuff. I went through the system and discovered the planets that the other user neglected and moved to the Atlas station. Got my direction from there and entered my galaxy map to proceed. I moved as for ahead as my warp would allow and found the next Atlas system...discovered already by the previous user...
Part of my experience from this game was finding something new. I know I can just turn around and say “Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning" but I've played enough to the point where I want to Follow the Path, which I still can, but that path now belongs to someone else. It might sound silly, but it kind of broke the immersion for me, the experience I was having (and not some stupid hype I set myself up for BTW ;)
So I guess I'll follow this path to get what I need out of it. My journey inward will still be a personal experience that I am looking forward to...but still...I was enjoying my lonely journey. Good new is this technically makes this game "multiplayer" now so...JK.../rant
With all honesty, if this is what upsets me about the game, that is some damn fine immersion I was experiencing. Hats off to Hello Games for bringing a truly unique experience.
