misscrabtree456: Like Elite Dangerous, it could be looked at as charging for content that was promised in the original.
Of course it'll be a PR disaster if they did that. Would make the launch problems look like a small inconvenience in comparison.
But remember they're dealing with a company here who once had a focus-group, marketing and PR department sign off on inserting forced adverts on the loading screens in a full-priced title. And then had a sub-manager at the dev tromp up as a representative for SL to defend it. After all the fans had bought the game. I'm just saying that it's unlikely it hasn't been discussed at some point with Sony already. Pretty sure Sean actually made a comment about it some time after launch, that paid dlc would be "possible, I guess".
I'm just saying that this is how much faith Sony has in being able to contain complaints, as well as isolating and reaching markets where paid dlc for promised extra features might be "demonstrated" to meet a demand.
And then when it fails, they simply blame the developer for making a bad game.
So there's an opportunity here for HG to negotiate how they are going to deal with updates before the support-agreement with Sony is over (that normally would go over 6 months). That then would afford them to repair some of the damage done with the PC-version. With the entire "flat-earther universe with training wheels", and so on.
Remember - Sony has important people here who believe that what they have for sale now is the best product possible. They invest hilarious amounts of effort, or at least money, into these mutual support-agreements with the devs. They think that giving a dev a piece of their sdk is going to bless the title with magical fairy-dust that makes children and adults smile. They have complete faith in things like stopping people from approaching the ground, or inserting pure grinding goals to "extend the game", etc. I talked to a guy who genuinely believed that the most important thing about a game were the trophies. He had been sniffing too much Microsoft briefings or something, and he had come to believe that they should delay major releases in order to get the trophies in first. To avoid, presumably, being made fun of on Gaf or something, I don't know.
This stuff is actually real, understand? That's how Sony does business. That's what they occupy a small division of guys in expensive suits, to make grand decisions on "the direction of the markets" and the long term plans for global PSN and now SOE I guess, where everyone is connected, and streaming to twitch, and that the connection quality shall be moved to a separate department dealing with security and anti-cheat measures, etc. That rely on some snot in testing having the brilliant idea of destroying online gaming for everyone by insisting that 700ms pings and 90% packet loss "works just fine".
But everyone are occupied with something, so everything is fine. And so on. Apart from the entire "multiple studios either dissolving or signaling the end of their agreements with Sony", of course. But that's just fine, because Sony is more than just games!
Etc. This never stops. So if someone gets it into their heads that the only way to "turn this around" is paid dlc, you can bet your ass on that it will happen.
