jimbobslimbob: Here, they say:

"It's crucial, therefore, this Enhanced Edition be compatible with all the mods made for Neverwinter Nights before. Thankfully it will be, and the community has been involved, suggesting their own updates and improvements."

and

"In a nice touch, this new version will be compatible with any old saves you’ve got lying around."

...so saves and mods are all compatible.

Bookwyrm627: Words are cheap. We'll see whether they actually come through on those statements.
Oh I agree - and is pretty much what I have been saying in this thread. We basically do not know if it will be good or bad at this point, we will just have to wait and see. All we have at present is a little tid-bit of information and people making assumptions as to how the game will turn out.

That's why it would be a good idea to check out the livestream today - to get some facts as to how it will turn out.

There is precedent of bad results from this company, so I find it somewhat hard to decry the skepticism.

I'm unfamiliar with what is supposed to be in this livestream. How is it anything except more words?

I do not know what is in it either, all I know is it's relating to the NWN EE. So we shall have to see.

stika: What exactly are the improvements here? This looks like the sort of graphics mod you can get for free.

There are so many reasons to pass on this:

- This looks a free graphics mod being sold for $20
- Beamdog doesn't have the best track record when it comes to their enhanced editions
- Even if they're adding new quests, what's the point? This game has THOUSANDS of mods and modules. There's more NWN content out there than I could ever hope to play in my life.

Stig79: I am guessing another 10 bucks for the soundtrack too. Which is included for free with the classic. Same crap they pulled with the BG + IWD + PS:T remakes they did.

It wouldn't surprise me if they charge extra for the toolset too, come to think of it.
I agree.

Altogether, expect to pay Triple, to get what is currently on offer.

I definitely agree for new people. Buy NWN before this is your only option.

It's going to be a largely pointless and massive price increase.

I definitely won't be buying it. I have original NWN boxed from 2003 (I bought the week it came out), and I have the Diamond Box that I bought when that came out, and I have the GoG Diamond version as well.
From what's been posted here, Beamdog appears to be a fraud/scam company that only exists to swipe the IP rights to classic games and flip them for double the price.

It's one thing when the megacorporation publishers refuse to make another good game. At least we will always have the classics... until a Beamdog takes a crap on them. Someone needs to shut them down or something.

Quotes from the OP:
"They basically just charged for mods other people had made."

Is that even legal? Almost certain there's a law against selling other peoples' property with no permission. Or perhaps a bunch of angry gamers should get together and auction off Beamdog's office building/HQ with no permission.

"If it turns out those quotes will end up being true, good on them. But they aren't coming from a developer with any hint of credibility at this point."

Does Beamdog even produce anything? Do they develop their own games, or are they solely based on doubling the price of classics that devs far better than them made?

"They removed the original creators from the credits on the GoG store to make it look like they themselves were the creators. They removed the classic versions for the store. And they lied about all of it and got caught. "
-> How did they get away with that? Removing the original creators from the credits should at least be called out (and punished) as plagiarism. Furthermore, copyright law may require the original creators to be listed except if the IP rights are fully transferred over. Perhaps Bioware should have its lawyers review Beamdog's conduct in under applicable law.

Post #12: "No, you are assuming NWN will be the same based on conjecture. Just because a tossed coin lands heads 4 times in a row, it does not mean it is certain to do the same again. You may be right, but you may be wrong."

Except that a tossed coin is random and has no memory, personality, or behavior patterns. Beamdog did this several times, no reason why they would stop.

Okay, so a poor analogy. Still doesn't mean that the majority of what has been said has not been conjecture.

I admit I do not know about all the previous games that Beamdog has remastered - and the surrounding controversy, but if anything it would surly make them want to fix previous mistakes and not fall into the trap again? Doesn't really matter at this point anyway, until more is known.

They got the permission to use the mods by the modders. Still...they are also taking credit for it.

They produced Siege of Dragonspear. An unwanted expansion pack to Baldur's Gate 1 that bridges the gap between the two games. The writing in it was so poor it looked like it was written by a 12 year old doing some fan-fiction. Completely railroaded plot with some massive plot-holes and lore-breaking events. Which, I suspect is what happens when the lead writer was more interested in preaching about feminism, gender-politics, and the like instead of writing a story that fit nicely in between the two BG games. She changed established characters (female ones) because she considered them sexist by 2015 standards. She even went on record telling BG fans that if they didn't like it when she changed the characters they had loved for 20 years "So be it".
The only "positive" thing I expect from this is the Linux version on GoG. I would much rather have had GoG take over storage of the Linux version when the Bioware servers were shut down, though. No way am I paying for NWN yet again, especially if the people who make money off of it have nearly nothing to do with its creation.
Wth is this low effort cash grab. I don't see the "enhanced" here at all. And why would you even bother to pay double, triple with DLCs if the vast majority, if not all, of the modules remain untouched anyway.

But i do share the concern of GOG.com once again facilitating this greed scheme by replacing Diamond Edition with this BS.
Hmm. So, if I’m reading this right, the “enhanced” features are:

- the user interface scales up to a 4K screen resolution
- the graphics engine now supports depth-of-field, pixel shaders and a few other post-processing effects

And… that’s it.

From the video I saw, the character and object models still have a very low polygon count with flat textures. Admittedly, it does look like they did a good job with most of the UI scaling (although the text font still looks very pixelated). But aside from a smoother UI, I’m very hard-pressed to see anything “enhanced” about this edition… aside from the price tag.
Well I watched the entire stream and they answered a lot of questions. I will do a write up of the important ones (and those I remember) tomorrow.

All in all though, it certainly made me much more confident that they will be doing a good job with it. I have to say I am really looking forward to it.
I can trade you a NWN Diamond code by the way;) or should I keep it? These things wll be valuable in the future:)

From the video, they did nothing to the UI. They only double size the UI on much higher resolutions. On 1080 it was stuck at current resolution.

So the live stream was basically them talking about what they are working on?

I'm back to my initial statement: words are cheap.
They just did a very few things so they could qualify as having "enhanced" the game. What they really are doing is just making sure they can soak up the income from another game.

Which is what they have done to 4 other classics already.

From their FAQ (posted by another user).

Will any other content for this game be available at launch?

Yes! At this time, the following additional items are available for purchase.

Premium Modules
- Pirates of the Sword Coast
- Infinite Dungeons
- Wyvern Crown of Cormyr

Soundtracks
- Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition Official Soundtrack
- Premium Adventures Official Soundtrack

Additional DLC
- The Heroes of Neverwinter Portrait Pack

The premium modules are, included for free with the classic version of the game. Now Beamdog will sell them separately.

The soundtrack is included with the classic version. Now Beamdog will be selling it separately.

They will also sell the soundtrack of the premium modules separately.

They are even charging for a portrait pack. I believe those portraits were included in the classic, but don't take my word for it.

Still care to spout any bullshit about "we don't know what Beamdog will do this time?" They are doing exactly what they did before, as expected. The company works like clockwork. If they can behave like a leech and do something shady, they will.

Told you so.
