Dartpaw86: ...there is a hidden pit ..
avatar
jsjrodman: Yeah, the trapdoors down to harder levels you haven't mapped yet are pretty brutal. Sorry for the loss of exp.
:3 well, I think I only fought about 5-6 battles before I fell down the pit, and a few more battles before I died. So I can get that back easily. But personally I honestly thought that I could find the staircase back up to Sorpigal easily as it didn't seem "too" mazy

Have you found the staircase down? It should be in the same location on each map (i.e. the same square in Sorpigal as it is in the cavern beneath Sorpigal). After falling through a trap door, if you use the Location spell you can find out where you are on the map and then try heading in the correct direction.

I figured that :3 but personally, the problem is that I'm still level one. So I don't know the location spell yet >_<

Sure you do, it's a level one spell. Spell number 1-7 in fact. So your sorcerer(s) should start the game with it.

Another very useful level 1 sorcerer spell is Sleep (1-8) which can put enemies to sleep and let you whack them without them retaliating. You'll need to rely on Sleep until you've gained some levels and get some decent attack spells.
Is the only way to pass magic barriers by having a level 11 Sorcerer? I'm in the lowest level of Dragadune and I can't access the Gongs... I'd really like to be able to continue raising my stats since with my entire party at level 8/9 I still can't come close to surviving in the A1/A2 sectors.

If so I'll just keep farming the Wyvern Peaks.

It's weird, that I wrote down all the lvl 1 spells, except certain Sorcerer spells 1-2, 1-3, and 1-7 and Cleric spell 1-6 are missing.

I think I skipped the spells that require gems.

Quite possibly, though Sorcerer 1-2 and 1-7 don't require gems.

This was super helpful, because I forgot Cleric 1-6 existed, since I had few to no gems when learning that level. At level 7 (my current) it's going to be great in a pinch. Healing surrrrge!

The spell is the only way past them, I think, unless there's a switch or something somewhere that turns them off. But I think you need the spell. There is a way to access spells that you don't have yet, but I think it only lasts through one battle, which would make it really hard to get all the way to the bottom of Dragadune before it runs out.

Have you explored everywhere yet? There are lots of quests to do and ways to gain lots of experience. I found that gaining levels (and therefore better spells) was more useful than boosting stats.

Power Cure is awesome. It's pretty much the only way to get a decent amount of healing on a single target at high levels. There are many other spells that also scale with the caster's level; keep an eye out for them because while they may not be that useful at first, at very high levels they can be very useful. This includes making spells harder for enemies to resist, so things like Finger of Death will work more often when the caster is higher level, for example.

Personally I found the 1-8 Cleric spell VERY useful as half the times, battles with undead only last about one round. I mean, once I got into a battle with skeletons, all 8 of them died in one blast of that spell. (More or less)

I've been doing the Lord's quests. Some of them are still too hard but many are becoming feasible now. They don't give much in the way of XP now that it takes 100K+ to gain levels, however. Nevertheless the gold I'm accumulating over time is going to be all dumped into the fountain at Dragadune and that helps quite a bit.

By the way, thanks for helping out.

Yeah I did this a lot. You can give lots of gold to your spellcasters in particular to try an level them faster, so they can learn new spells. There are some other ways to get a lot of experience, using hints found on the statues in Sorpigal. Without giving too much away, one of them involves fighting specific battles and then heading to the southeast part of the map for a reward. This is repeatable as well (in fact, all the quests are repeatable).

But since you specifically mentioned the A1/A2 areas, I think those are some of the toughest places in the game. So if there are other parts of the world that you haven't explored yet, try exploring those first.
Stats do seem pretty important though... I was getting wrecked by the Gray Minotaur and his crew and couldn't beat them until I pumped my Paladin and Knight full of Might Potions.

Oh and thanks for pointing that out about the fountain. I had thought the XP would be distributed evenly to all party members! Next time I will Gather Gold on my spellcasters.

Is there a max for stats, BTW? I thought it was going to be 30 for 'base' but the fountains seem to push me even beyond that and I don't want to break the game by going too high.

How do you boost stats?
It wasn't that long ago that I finished MM1 (just finished MM2 and MM1 was before that) and I can't really remember being aware of stats increasing but the cluebook does suggest it happens, it actually says "Experience and skill may be raised in a variety of ways".

I'm not sure stats matter that much in MM1 (except for speed). I found an efficient combat strategy was enough to get me through. By that I mean things like making sure your archer isn't going to take a melee space in combat, using spells efficiently etc.

Dartpaw86: How do you boost stats?
Unlike the later games, you generally don't. There is only one way of doing it. Without spoilers:

Some locations give permanent status boosts only once. One location per stat. You can then complete a so-called Worthy Quest (it's in a difficult area so you'll only do it towards the end of the game), after which you can visit those locations again to receive a boost a second time.
