To be honest, it feels incredibly generic. I like the little throwbacks to the old games (the first town in MM10 is called 'Sorpigal-by-the-sea' for example), but overall I miss the spacey, otherworldly vibe that especially the Xeen games had.
Yeah just as I suspected. SOme people don't care about these things but I do. As I heard HoMM5 was the same, you could say anything about HoMM4 but storytelling and atmosphere there was still the good old NWC style, and while 5 polished gameplay a bit more, it made the whole feel and story geeeneeeric.

Also one may not be a fan of sci-fi elements in MM lore (I love it), but the decision to cut it in the new-gen MM is clearly motivated by "it's not generic enough, people will not buy that!" kind of thinking. (although one can remember the outrage when they tried to put it in HoMM hehe).
I still mourn the day I read we didn't get our Forge town in HoMM3 :( haha. Contrary to that the Conflux is one of the stupidest scrambled together towns imaginable.
So, it's been a while since this thread started and people who bought the game gave their first impressions...

Does anyone have anything more in-depth to say about the game? Worth buying now? Worth buying when release? Not worth it at all?

Also, does anyone know any good videos or Let's Plays of this game?

The Early Access version hasn't had any updates since the second patch that added 4 more classes to mess around with, so I'd just wait another week for the full version to be released and read people's impressions then.

For my part, I thought the Early Access build seemed super promising and I'll be very interested to see how it pans out. But then again, I'm also not hung up on Uplay/Ubisoft/Grid-based movement/Ashan/It not being exactly like the old games, so I wasn't going in with the intention to hate it.

Yeah, good point, I'd forgotten when it's going to be released.

I watched the only video I could find of the game being played and it did look fun, but I'm really not a fan of the Ashan setting. I'm going in looking at it as an RPG similar to Might and Magic, and not really as a Might and Magic game.

Still, I look forward to finding out how it turns out to be!
i don tlike the idea that its movement is lmited, like on chessboard
So, Might&Magic Legacy is out now.

I got it delivered yesterday (pre-ordered directly from Ubisoft for 29€ & free shipping).

For a budget title there was quite an effort made in the physical appearance.

- sturdy old-fashioned cardboard box, a little bigger than a dvd-case
- cloth map of the game world, format 40x48cm
- set of artwork cards
- an audio disc with the soundtrack, in a cardboard case
- a dvd-case with the game cd, manual and download codes for "Might&Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven" (Uplay Version) and some bonus for "Might&Magic: Duel of Champions"

Downside is the usage of Uplay which starts everytime the game is started (but does not need to connect to the WWW)

the Game itself seems quite good, I think.
Compared to the Early Access Version the graphics have been polished a little, and there are small changes like more details on the mini-map.
The graphics are ok, but not as good as Legend of Grimrock. character stats system seems to be mixture of Might&Magic 4/5 and 6/7/8.
There is a Day One Patch available (version 1.31) that didn't make it onto the DVD and is quite huge.
the world is Ashan, same as Heroes V&VI, the look of the monsters is similar, but that's okay for me.

All in all, I think the price is good, and I hope it sells enough units for Ubisoft to continue the Might&Magic series.

Yup, let it be sold here, without useless unwanted compelled software.

That's interesting. They said before that UPlay only needed to do a "one-time activation". Hmmm, even more reason to wait for the GOG version. How long do you think that's going to take?

Yes, "one-time-activation" is the case, but that refers only to the internet connection. After activation it is not necessary to connect to the internet in order to play. Uplay still starts everytime, but can be put into offline mode.
Disadvantage is then probably, that Uplay cannot synchronize savegames, achievements and Uplay-Points (you get some points at certain points in the game and can unlock some further elements via Uplay) with the cloud.

Concerning a GOG version I am not sure how and if the Uplay bonus elements (a dungeon, an NPC and several major magic items) could be implemented, as they are already in the game and need to be unlocked with Uplay Points earned by playing the game or other Uplay Games.

No problem, I'll wait the needed years to have a complete DRM-free game, if the publisher want/need our money.

Ugh. Unlocking content through Uplay bollocks? That's even worse!

It's such a shame. I loved the old MM games. This could have been such a good thing.

Oh well, if Ubisoft want my money, they know what they need to do.

To be fair, the content unlocked through Uplay "rewards" isn't really all that significant. It's a Wallpaper, some slightly overpowered magic items that will make the beginning of the game slightly easier if you have characters able to take advantage of them, a NPC hireling who can cast a handful of buff spells at the lowest level once a day (semi-useless past the second act of the game) and a dungeon that I cannot yet comment on. Not necessary by any means, and I imagine they would just be included in a hypothetical GOG version.

The game itself is pretty good, I say that as someone who beat World of Xeen last year. However, it also has a fair share of technical issues, so maybe waiting 50 years for Ubisoft to not release games on Uplay is the right way to go, since they'll probably be fixed by then.
This game is simply brilliant and has motivated me to replay the series.

It's a shame so many of it's fans won't get it because of uplay, though I do understand, since that practically guarantees we are killing hopes of more games in the genre.
