Hi,

I am Sandro. I made MechoEcho. Send me questions, comments or random things you want to talk about. :)

Sandro
There are plenty of questions and answers going on in the comments section of the release announcement, you can find them here:
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/release_mechoecho_97995
I just wanted to say a giant thank you for being here and active on the forums. Whilst there are devs on here, in my personal experience not many jump right in and/or stick around after release so I just wanted to say thank you.

This is one of the factors I look at. The Kona developers are also very engaging on here and omnipresent :)

Thank you also for catching my post on the other thread regarding rebinding keys as I am left handed. I think I best wait till a future patch corrects the ability to bind non alpha/numeric as not only do I bind to arrow keys but also all the keys close like , . ? " ; etc assuming one is planned ? I really hope this is a yes as it is really needed for left handed accessiblity :)

Thank you again. I really can't wait to play.

Thank you. It's been a lot of fun chatting with you guys in the last few days. Sure, I can read reviews of my game on the "other" store... but talking with you and the others on the GOG forums has been the most insightful way of understanding what people think of my game, and what they would expect from it.

If there is an update, I'll make sure to fix the keyboard thing, and I'll send you a note about it. Sorry about that, it just didn't occur to me! :)

Thank you Sandro most appreciated. yes sadly us lefthanded people are left out at times. Rebinding should be a standard thing to any key just for accessibility. :) Even big devs like CD Projekt Red were guilty with Witcher 3 not having rebinding thus making it impossible for left handed people practically. There are whole threads about it on here, it took a while to sort too. We were not happy there.

I got a little worried when you said *if* there is an update though. :O

I had better wait until there is an update to sort the problem. I'm not sure if you can PM me here on GoG, not sure they really have that facility. There are chats I think which is close to a PM.

Anyway good luck with the sales and I really hope an update for key rebinding will come out so I can buy it as this looks like a totally fantastic game to play.

Thanks again

True, I am not sure how I would contact you to inform you of an update. But I am sure that if I ask GOG, they'll find a way, They are always very helpful. :)

Generally all purchasers of the game are informed of updates so then the changelogs can be looked at. If you do not purchase a game you would just need to track it manually.

As you said though, lets see what happens, lets hope the keybinding update comes out so I can then jump right in and buy the game. The other option is for me to buy the game and just wait for the update. I am happy to do this so long as I know the update will be coming sometime within 2016.

:)
I didn't even think about checking here :)

The game has very nice ambient music and good riddles.

One major critique (or I haven't figured it out): How do you move individual parts during construction?

You can move the main core engine and anything attached to it, but if you build some moveable part, it would be great if you could mark and move only this part.

Still following the story about what happened to humanity, no spoilers ;)

p.s. and I wished you could save the constructions somehow. And optimize later, like in SpaceChem, Tis-100 or Infinifatory :)

Hi Disi, I wasn't expecting new posts in this thread, sorry for the late reply! :)

disi: How do you move individual parts during construction?
Generally the easiest way is to split the machine in two by deleting a block, and then move one or both of the machine parts using the move tool. You can't really detach a single block in any other way once you have placed it.

I hope you liked the story, in about a week I'll be releasing an update with 10 new levels, one new character, and some major plot twists. ;)

It's a very good idea, currently you can save machines in the sandbox but not in the main levels. It would be nice to extend that to all the levels.

Thanks for your feedback. I'll keep your suggestions in mind (saving machines and moving single blocks), and maybe introduce them in future updates.

Hello again,
I just saw on the GoG news that there is a new version AND one of the changes is improved supprot for lefthanded players so we can rebind to the numeric keypad, this is excellent.

We can rebind to the cursor keys as well yes ? cursor keys form the same "shape" as WASD for right handers hence is the equivalent for us lefties

Hi, I was just about to contact you on GOG's chat system to let you know about the update! :)

I am not sure I understand your question, so I'll give you a detailed explanation of the changes, and hopefully that will be a sufficient answer.

What's supported in the new update:
============================
The update allows you to assign all the keys on the numeric keypad (except for "Enter") with both the numlock on or off. You can also assign the following keys: Insert, Home, PageUp, PageDown, Delete, End - which on almost all keyboards are conveniently grouped together above the arrow keys.

The cursor/arrow keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) were already supported in the previous version of MechoEcho. However, to control advanced machines with multiple engines you end up having to use a lot more then 4 keys, which is why I thought left handed players needed better keyboard support. Playing the advanced levels, at times you'll probably find yourself leaving the mouse unattended, so you can control your machine with 2 hands - one on the numeric keypad, and one on either the arrows or the Insert/Home/Etc... keys.

Keep in mind that often right handed players end up using at least W,A,S,D,Q,E - with wasd mapped to vehicle movement and q,e mapped to the arm of a crane or some other machinery. So, most times you'll want not to use the arrow keys but rather the keypad or the insert/home/delete block of keys (although that's really up to the player).

What's NOT supported in the new update:
================================
Some special characters such as punctuation, etc... are still not supported.

You can't flip the left and right mouse button. Which is something I am just realizing now... ops! :)

Hello there, yes sorry I forgot the cursor keys were already there. Thank you. You have answered everything. This sounds absolutely perfect. Thank you so much.

For me no need to swap the mouse for me at least. All lefties I know don't swap that but it is great you are looking at it.

Well one thing left for me now, jump in an BUY the product. I just again wanted to express my deep and heartfelt thank you for being so wonderful and supportive. Not often do we get devs this engaging and supportive. Sure there are lots of fantastic ones but you really do all out for your product and audience for that I just wanted to say a giant thank you.

Buying Mecho Echo right now. I'll let you know how I go. :)

kindest regards

Thanks for the kind words, and glad to hear the game is now lefties approved. :)
Let me know if you need any assistance!

Because of your support and kindless and understanding and community engagement. Whatever you release in the future, count me in. I will buy it and support you. I rarely have devs where I always buy every single thing they do, positech and introversion are two and you also join this list. I am just blown away by your honesty and zeal to get your product out there and how you want people to have the best experience possible.

You Sir, are amazingly brilliant !

Another thing I do with the devs I listed is I buy direct from them so they get as much of the price paid as possible as well as buying it on GoG to encourage the GoG sales.

I checked and there does not seem to be a way of buying MechoEcho directly from you but if there ever is, I will be happy to pay for it again.

Having published MechoEcho a bit over a month ago, I have spent lots of time focusing on any criticism I could find about the game. My goal was to see things from the point of view of the players and understand what could be improved. It has been a really useful experience (and it has made the game better), but also a tough one. So, uplifting displays of support like yours really make a difference for indie devs!

Thank you. :)
