styggron: Hello again,
I just saw on the GoG news that there is a new version AND one of the changes is improved supprot for lefthanded players so we can rebind to the numeric keypad, this is excellent.
We can rebind to the cursor keys as well yes ? cursor keys form the same "shape" as WASD for right handers hence is the equivalent for us lefties
Hi, I was just about to contact you on GOG's chat system to let you know about the update! :)
I am not sure I understand your question, so I'll give you a detailed explanation of the changes, and hopefully that will be a sufficient answer.
What's supported in the new update:
============================
The update allows you to assign all the keys on the numeric keypad (except for "Enter") with both the numlock on or off. You can also assign the following keys: Insert, Home, PageUp, PageDown, Delete, End - which on almost all keyboards are conveniently grouped together above the arrow keys.
The cursor/arrow keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) were already supported in the previous version of MechoEcho. However, to control advanced machines with multiple engines you end up having to use a lot more then 4 keys, which is why I thought left handed players needed better keyboard support. Playing the advanced levels, at times you'll probably find yourself leaving the mouse unattended, so you can control your machine with 2 hands - one on the numeric keypad, and one on either the arrows or the Insert/Home/Etc... keys.
Keep in mind that often right handed players end up using at least W,A,S,D,Q,E - with wasd mapped to vehicle movement and q,e mapped to the arm of a crane or some other machinery. So, most times you'll want not to use the arrow keys but rather the keypad or the insert/home/delete block of keys (although that's really up to the player).
What's NOT supported in the new update:
================================
Some special characters such as punctuation, etc... are still not supported.
You can't flip the left and right mouse button. Which is something I am just realizing now... ops! :)
