The first time I ran the game, my firewall popped up asking me to give it permission. As the game seems to be single player only, does anyone know what it wants from the 'net?

My Firewall didnt ping off about it at all... some firewalls have a protection that runs like a anti-virus so it might be that.

i'll check on it with wireshark ~ lets see what is hidden there.
(most likely it has some web content / checks for updates from main-title etc)
This is what it tries to do

14041 954.579666000 HTTP 408 POST /UploadStats HTTP/1.1 (application/x-www-form-urlencoded)
(stats contain your character name, sex, skills, kills.) -- is also secured with md5.
and it goes here:
xavcombatlogger.xaviant.net

and gets reply

The requested URL
/UploadStats
was not found on this server.
\n

I had kind of assumed it was for an auto-updater myself.

If I'm understanding that correctly, what it's trying to do is log your character stats, but failing?

Yes, you got it right.

The page&function its trying to upload your stats does not exist anymore (Page 404 returns). (so its refused)
The combat logger was something we did a little while ago, and it seems remnants are still there. There are a few other things we do with the internet, almost all of them being for error reporting. If the app crashes you will be asked if you want to submit your crash report to us (which it will do automatically). Other times it will send stuff to us when certain asserts fail.

Would You be able to list other things that are being done with internet? You see this community is very touchy :)

I'd be happy to. We "use" it for the combat logger, for our crash handler, for select assertion failures, and for Steam saves which aren't used here. We may use it for the initial Steam DRM check as well, but I am not quite sure how that system is handled, and that is not applicable here, either.

If you are concerned about personal data, this information is only sent to us via what is logged in your Game log, your Error log, and your DxDiag. In all of these logs we collect information about your hardware. When it comes to personal information, we collect the following:

Game log: Your Windows profile name
Error Log: The install path of the game (may include your Windows profile name or other path data)
DxDiag: Standard dxdiag stuff

None of these are sent to us without your permission.

If you are so inclined you may turn off the internet or deny firewall access to Lichdom and you can still play it to completion.

Thanks not many dev's are so forthcoming.

I had already denied it, figuring that doing so was harmless. I was mostly just curious. Single player games asking to use the net tend to set off red flags for me (*cough*AlwaysOnlineUbiDRM*cough*), but that wasn't a concern so much this time, given that GOG only sells DRM free :-)

Thanks for all that info. Since I already flagged a post as a solution, you get some +'s instead :-D
Aye, thanks for coming down. Much appreciated, just bought the game myself :).
