So, what's your party ? I'm giving my evil one. Since I suppose IWD 2 will appear soon enough, I'll mix classes and portraits from both games.

Muse
Neutral evil human bard.

When asked about her past, Muse reveals that she ignores her real name, since she was abducted as a child, and then trained as a slave in a family of perverted aristocrats. She soon became a sex slave. However, her master realized that having such a cunning slave wasn't the best idea of all when, one night, his "muse", as he called her, poisoned him. Since then, Muse is free, and promised herself never to be a slave again. That doesn't make her any nicer, though, since she'll do anything to keep her independance and the means to fund it. She thinks fighting is beneath her, and leaves all the physical action to her followers, prefering to use her arts and magic to "convince" opponents. Is she really that attractive, or only enticing you by magic ? In any case, if you dream about a night with her, this night will probably be your last.

Ferak
Lawful neutral human fighter.

When asked about his past, Ferak grumbles that there isn't much to say about it. Now a tall, burly man in his forties, he once was a soldier in one of the many Luskan private armies. He then became the city executioner, a job that doesn't offer much vacations given the high number of lethal political intrigues there. A change in the balance of powers put an end to his employment, which allowed Muse to hire him as her personal bodyguard. As long as someone gives orders to him, he seems satisfied. Ferak is by no means an intellectual, but he certainly mastered the most important skill of all : survival.

Heart-of-Thorn
Neutral evil elven druid.

When asked about her past, Thorn answers back in the most haughty manner she can manage. The antiquated accents of her language make clear that she belongs to the most backward, remote elven tribes of Faerun. Given her behavior, and her hot temper -- that often contradicts her supposed druidic discipline -- you suspect that she might be, on elven standards, a young girl. Even if her motives are uncertain, her deep hatred against everything civilized makes no doubt. To her, joining a band of mercenaries seems a good way to express such hate. People foolish enough to cross her path will soon discover that nature isn't always a loving mother. Nature can also be a teenager with identity crisis. And really painful.

l'Arsouille
Chaotic evil halfling thief.

When asked about his past, l'Arsouille starts one of his irrelevant ramblings again. Everything in him seems slimy. He practices the "noble profession" of grave digger and battlefield plunderer. In this line of work, travelling with Muse and Darkclaw is without doubt a good way to ensure a steady income. He's not battle hardy at all, since he usually starts to work after the fight is over. However, when cornered, he will defend himself like an rabid weasel, using the many knives he always carries with him. Trusting him would be absurd but, as long as there are enough corpses to pickpocket, he will follow.

Darkclaw
Lawful evil tiefling monk.

When asked about her past, Darkclaw answers without hesitation that she belongs to the Order of the Dark Moon and worships Shar, the dark godess. She's currently undertaking her initiatory journey which consists, simply said, in spreading rampage. Oddly enough, she explains it with lots of complicated arcane and mystical theories. Since nobody will start a theological controversy with her (not while still breathing for long, actually), her preaches are often longwinded. Her demonic heritage reveals itself on the battlefield, where she is a swift and silent killing machine. The softness of her voice is even more chilling when you realize that she is, by all conceivable standards, a dangerous fanatic.

(these five usually do the job, but I might add a sixth, err, "merry" companion later)

i dont know about aligments much but, arent druids are supposed to be true neutral?
Not in Icewind dale 2 anymore, which follows the ADD3 set of rules. Ok, I anticipated a little bit, but I'm certain GOG will have IWD 2 soon enough.

And maybe even without any dubious PR stunt.
Nice biographies. :)

I'll post my goody-goody party, but I haven't written up bios for them.

Krypsyn: Human Paladin (Lawful Stupid)
18/99 Str, 18 Dex, 18 Con, 11 Int, 13 Wis, 18 Cha
(I actually rolled an 18/00 Str and a 17 Cha for this guy, buy I used Dalekeeper to give him a 18/99 Str and a 18 Cha, made more sense to me for a paladin)

Okura: Dwarven Fighter (Chaotic Good)
18/00 Str, 17 Dex, 19 Con, 11 int, 12 Wis, 11 Cha

Sylvia: Half-Elven Cleric/Ranger (Neutral Good)
18/84 Str, 18 Dex, 18 Con, 11 Int, 18 Wis, 10 Cha

Kryzlon: Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (Lawful Neutral)
15 Str, 18 Dex, 16 Con, 19 Int, 17 Wis, 10 Cha

Krysina: Elven Mage/Thief (Chaotic Neutral)
14 Str, 19 Dex, 16 Con, 18 Int, 11 Wis, 13 Cha

Only went with 5 character, because I couldn't think of any other type of character I really needed; this party is about as well rounded as I could make it. All those attributes are legitimate stat rolls (except for the paladin, who I think I actually made weaker with the trainer), and, in case anyone wondered, it took me about 3:30 hours to get them.

I might come back and add some descriptions later, if the mood strikes me.
i dont have icewind dale yet, but i assume that my party would mostly consist of charakters i made for different pen & paper rpgs, i think they would be:

Darion Cloudburst
Chaotic Neutral Halfelven Magician+Cleric
A nice guy that doesnt have the fighting power, but by being a magician and cleric has many little tools in form of his spells. Wants to experience the world and wants to know how things work. He isnt really chaotic, it is just that he sometimes wants to try out things to understand the world. Tries to stay in the background and influence things at the same time. Weapon of choice: Magic Missile

Flint
Chaotic Neutral Human Thief
That guy really is chaotic. He wants to live the greatest adventures and take the most dangerous risks there are. He wants to be a hero, but not because he wants to help, but because he wants to be famous. The greater the danger the better! Full of wits and overconfident. But still a thief.
Example of typical things happening to him:
Once was in a forign country where he had a magical pot. Magic was forbidden there - he knew that, but had forgotten that at this moment. He wanted to impress a merchant at the marked and showed him the pot. The merchant shouted "arashnasaka!" and pointed to Flint. Flints reaction was to throw the pot for the merchant to catch, and pointing back at the merchant shouting "arashnasaka" himself. A minute later the merchant was burned alive by the townspeople around. To this date he has no clue what "arashnasaka" means. Weapon of Choice: Two Daggers

Gromm
Lawful Good Dwarfen Cleric
This guy is basically a dumb straightforward fighter with spells. He doesnt care much about his savety. Not because he is careless, but because the concept of danger is nothing he can grasp. Never lost a fight. He is willingly to help everybody, but is angry all the time. Basically he is a torpedo that looks like a dwarf. Weapon of choice: Two Handed Axe

Korben Kaneda
Chaotic Good Human Ninja
If he wants you dead and you see him it is part of his plan. That guy is a shadow, and a deadly one. He also roams the city in the night just to gather information and to find out whats going on. If there is an opportunity to make some money he is also into that. But only because he needs money for his tools (poison, smokebombs, stuff like that). He lives a poor little life as a roaming merchant by day, and the stuff he has to sell are all kinds of little things he finds. Skilled Archer. Weapon of Choice: Composite Longbow

Alrik
Chaotic Good Human Fighter
Happy go lucky fighter. Has solutions to all kinds of danger he finds himself in. He is highly intelligent, and good with his sword and in avoiding being hit. Tends to drive you mad by surviving everything you throw at him. Even if he works for you he might mock you through his actions. A bit like as if there was a medieval john mcclane dressed in a robust leather fighting outfit that is always smiling. On a sidenote: likely to level magician classes occasionally. Like fighter with some tricks up his sleeve. Weapon of Choice: Longsword

Roy
Chaotic Good Human Ranger
Likes his quiet life in the woods. Very shy guy, and doesnt talk much. A long conversation with him would involve the other guy talking and Roy nodding and mumbling "m hm". If you need someone with a brain: stay away! Has the strange habit to shoot at ropes and similar things (and till now he never missed). For example one time a giant spider was roping down exactly above a friend, and out of pure reaction he shot the rope without thinking. Weapon of choice: Longbow.

Yeah i think i will try to recreate them as true as possible in icewind dale :)

If you want to recreate characters, save yourself some headaches and just download Dalekeeper (the character trainer), and use that to assign stats. It makes sense unless you are a power-gaming min/maxer like me, with a perverse sense of 'fair' (seriously, legitimately rolling godly stats is almost half the fun in these games for me).

http://www.mud-master.com/dalekeeper/index.html
as long as i can reassign rolled numbers like in baldurs gate i am fine without the trainer, those guys didnt have numbers that high that i need to roll for hours. Only Alrik was really spoiled with numbers like 18 Int (a fighter!) and high values in strenght, dexterity and constitution (that was a really really nice roll back then, but other than the 18 for int i cant remember them and didnt find the charakter sheet)
I use the default bios, but decided for more of a challenge this time:

Adrick: Human Paladin (Lawful Good)
Stumpet: Dwarf Cleric (Chaotic Neutral)
Saramakos: Half-Elf Thief (Chaotic Neutral)
Flare: Human Mage (Chaotic Neutral)

Yeah I have a thing for chaos in the party!
I usually play with only a single character, except in BG2 where I usually take Aerie with me. My only regret is that there is no Warlock class in IWD or IWD2 as it is my favourite class. As for single character playthroughs IWD is pretty easy for such a playthrough while in IWD2 there are a few fights that can be pretty tough for a single character like the fight with the Guardian, Iyactu Xvim and the Lost Followers.
I agree it can be quite playable with a low number of characters - I used to do just 2 (Caramon and Raistlin, Fighter and Mage) but I end up getting frustrated as I hate leaving loot behind!
Rolled stats for a while (like Krypsyn, I find rolling half the fun and always like to do it legitimately for some strange reason) and finally got my 3 character party. Going to give it a shot with the following, I think:

Daenna: Chaotic Good Human Ranger, party leader

Stats:
STR 18/00
DEX 18
CON 16
INT 9
WIS 18
CHA 15

She'll be dual classing to Cleric after she makes level 3 Ranger.

Wenda: Neutral Human Fighter

Stats:
STR 18/00
DEX 18
CON 16
INT 9
WIS 18
CHA 9

She'll be dual classing to Druid after she makes level 3 in Fighter

Malaga: Neutral Evil Elf Thief/Mage

Stats:
STR 18
DEX 19
CON 16
INT 18
WIS 9
CHA 9

(her stats were a total fluke, as I rolled once and managed to get a great roll, so that's why my mage has an 18 STR).

I'm hoping this will cover all the bases and prove effective enough to be a fun party.

*edit* Bah! Been so long since I've played AD&D that I forgot that CHA was one of the required stats for a Druid. Thought it was just WIS. SO I had to edit Wenda's CHA to 17 in order to be allowed to dual class.

Other than that, no issues with the party. The team is doing extremely well so far. Just got into Kuldahar with Wenda at FTR3/Druid 3, Malaga at Thief 3/WIZ 3, and Daenna at RGR 3/CLC 2 (only need a couple hundred for CLC 3).

Fara - Paladin (Human, lawful good)
STR - 18/20
DEX - 14 (I know, too low; would have put more in had I known how AC worked in advance)
CON - 16
INT - 10
WIS - 14
CHA - 18

Warriv - Ranger/Cleric (Half-Elf, chaotic good; none of the D2 characters were a good match, but I wanted one of these. :-/ )
STR - 18/75
DEX - 18
CON - 18
INT - 8
WIS - 18
CHA - 6

Gheed - Fighter/Thief (Elf, neutral evil)
STR - 18/87
DEX - 19
CON - 17
INT - 14
WIS - 8
CHA - 10

Deckard Cain - Bard (Half-Elf, true neutral) (He will identify your items for no charge!)
STR - 10
DEX - 16
CON - 16
INT - 18
WIS - 10
CHA - 18
(Whoops, CHA doesn't actually do anything except for your designated diplomat... grrrr. I don't like the ID stat system)

Akara - Fighter 3 --> Mage (Human, true neutral; apparently she learned three levels of bow proficiency while living with the rogues)
STR - 15
DEX - 15
CON - 16
INT - 18
WIS - 10
CHA - 10

So far, so good. I mean, it's tough going, but Gheed likes to backstab and run. Three levels of bow make Akara useful even when her magic runs dry, especially at low levels. I'm partway through Dragon's Eye. I sort of wish I had another tank so Warriv could cast spells uninterrupted more often...

Also, it might be fun to have a second backstabber, but maybe that's a bit too much. I don't know; bards are better for large parties, so maybe a 6th wouldn't be a bad idea. Thoughts?
Looks good, although as you noted, some stats could be tweaked better. But not being familiar with the game mechanics can do that to you.

What levels are your characters at now?

6/7. Mostly 7's.
Ah, big difference when you have fewer characters. My party is just entering Dorn's Deep (I've talked to the grumpy wizard and cleared that first level) and they're at:

RGR 3/ CLC 10
FTR 3/ DRD 10
Mage 9/ Thief 11
