Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, though when it comes to gaming, I'm an old dog. Played Giants back when I had a P3 933Mhz/64MB GF2 MX400, I've just gotten Giants a few days back and have gotten it running with GRM installed. Now, having completed the game years back, I do not wish to play thru all the levels again (some can be quite frustrating), but I find that I can't enable cheat. Mine's the version DL'ed from GOG (Version 1.4 I think), and I did not patch it at all, installed GRM but that's about it. Is there any way to enable cheat?
Does this help?

Nope, but thanks for trying though. Those cheat codes work with version 1.0 I think, but with version 1.4, no sweetness.
I'm pretty sure the 'level select' works...
I've found that as of v1.05 (I think that is v that gog DLs) most of the cheats do not work. gimmegifts, basepopulate, basefillerup as examples. I've been looking for a way to un-update the game got years.
Unfortunately, the developers made a dick-move to remove the ability to use the in-game cheats for some arbitrary reason. The unofficial "Giants World Dominator" site basically tells anyone and everyone interested in the cheats, trainers, or whatever to STFU and/or GTFO. One guy who had been working on a jetpack trainer got banned, I believe.

I thought about going there to get help, but when I saw they were a bunch of elitest bastards who don't like people enjoying their single-player experience, I decided to hell with them.

I've also heard that the game has to be rehacked everytime you play it cause the locations of stuff like ammo and health move around every time you start it up.

I'm still enjoying the game, but I like playing these things my own way if I have a difficult time getting past a particular spot. I don't wanna unlock every level, where's the fun in that. I'd just want the occasional help with health in levels that might be tough. Or maybe I just wanna mess about. Nope, not gonna happen, unfortunately.

...sorry, I'm just kinda bitter by the way I saw that supposedly friendly and helpful dedicated fansite shoot down anyone who didn't play their way.

Further Edit: I'm not sure if it came over properly, but I don't do multiplayer. I'm one of those "relics" from the old days that feels multiplayer is just.. I don't know, unnecessary in a lot of games that seems to throw it in. I get upset when I see people who would rather deep-six the single-player in favour of multiplayer-only gaming, especially when the gane's single-player is pretty good.

So when I see people who don't even touch the single-player getting their nickers in a twist cause someone wants to play a solo game the way they enjoy it, it kind of offends me.

Snap. Why they all gotta be d-bags?

Any trainers or anything like that?
None I found worked, possibly because the version GOG provides is the most current version where the in-game cheats were removed. I tried a couple and one did nothing while the other would freeze up the game.

I had no luck using Cheat Engine, either, but I'm not terribly good at doing tricky searches. You could always look around, though the fact it has multiple update versions means its impossible to use older trainers or stuff on the new versions.

It really sucks, and the community was super unsupportive.

I did manage to finish the game the other day. For the base building missions, I used Cheat Engine to freeze the values for certain weapons. It works for the jet ski races too (freezing turbo is a lifesaver).

The base buildings missions were kind of ridiculous, i rather disliked that base defense was basically DIY.

Overall the game was entertaining, just I wish they had been more receptive to PCisms.
Since several people had been asking, I created a basic cheat table for v1.497 and posted it over in the Cheat Engine forums. It appears that I can't link to it here, but you should be able to find it with a quick search in the CE forums.

You rock! I'll have to replay this sometime.
The only thing I really want is unlimited jetpack fuel.
I also thought it was quite silly to remove cheats. I first thought they removed cheats because they weren't able to enable them in singleplayer and remove them in multiplayer at the same time but that's not the case, I checked in version 1.1. According to this site, debug mode was removed from version 1.0 to 1.1 for that reason though.

There are multiple versions of this game:
1.0: The release version. Contains most glitches and crashes often
1.1: Early patch with few changes, most notably the debug menu was disabled to prevent players from cheating in multiplayer mode
1.396: Beta patch, mostly like 1.4
1.4: Final patch. Crashes seldomly, but least glitches
1.497: Unofficial patch, focused on improving multiplayer (e.g. removing abusable glitches, more game modes, map sharing)
I think it's impossible to re-enable those cheats without having access to the source code unfortunately. I did find some sweet sounding command line options that I haven't really seen posted anywhere, I wonder what you guys think about it.

In version 1.1:
-window (windowed mode)
-debmusic (you get a debug hud in the game)
-tlod (???)
-japan (???)
-keepopen (???)
-guns (???)
-nomouse (disables mouse)
-noskipintro (doesn't seem to do anything?)
-skipintro (doesn't seem to do anything?)

I also found a bunch of others in a different place in the exe file, those seem to be more for configuring stuff though Some but not all seem to be posted in this tweak guide
EDIT: pretty much all the configuration commands I posted can be found here

Version 1.4 also has commandline options but not as much as 1.1. There are also a couple of different configuration options I think.
-window
-tlod
-japan
-guns

EDIT: pretty much all of the configuration commands I posted can be found here.
