thylior: Still it is totally ok to say for modern standards this game sucks, because that is right.
It's a bit inaccurate to say he's right, but at the same time it can't be said that he's wrong either. The determination he makes is subjective, as are the "modern standards" that it is based on. Some will agree with him, others will not, but there is no objective right or wrong to either perspective.

As for his value as a reviewer, that is determined solely by whether someone watching him finds his reviews helpful, entertaining, or informative in some way. Again, some find value in it, others don't.

He basically gives Steam credit for release of SS2
No mention of the (presumably) hard work by Night Dive Studios to obtain the rights for the game and then release
No mention of GOG at all either
Also he over exaggerates the amount of stuff put on screen in inventory by making it sound like it all comes up at once rather than certain things being put up by clicking buttons to put it up

Maybe I should add "his" before "right", because I agree to you, that right and wrong are very much based on the opinion someone has.

thylior: Still it is totally ok to say for modern standards this game sucks, because that is right. Rating a game will always struggle in that regard. Fans protecting it, no matter what and haters hating without even playing it. I would appreciate if you would just recognize his review without bursting into a shitstorm or even denying his worth as a reviewer, just because he tested system shock from a modern point of view (which still is totaly ok, because it costs money and got released just a few days ago and we're not in the 90s anymore).
No it's not OK. I never played it back in the day, and when I played the GOG version, I absolutely loved it. It's a great game, even if you try it today for the first time.

Now, you can argue that it's different from most (if not all) new games, which is fair. But that can be used just as well to say "modern games suck", which an old argument and we don't want to bring that here, do we?

In no way I meant to say that any game type in particular is good or bad. That way would only lead me to trolling. What I meant to say is, that is ok for someone to do not like certain things in an old/new game because old/new games made it better sometime.

I agree with what you meant to say, but the way you put it before, it sounded like you said the game was objectively crappy for any modern gamer, and it would only be defended by the nostalgic crowd. Therefore my reply.

Let's just call it a misunderstanding and move on. The game has design decisions made precisely to make you feel uncomfortable and on edge all the time, I myself found it annoying at first until I suddenly realized I was feeling exactly like I should be feeling if I was stuck on a closed spaceship surrounded by monsters. And that is quite an achievement, even if obviously not for everyone.
I watch Zero Punctuation for the entertainment factor.

Yeah I only watch videos for games I've already played. Hell I even skipped over a few posts in here because I've always been adamant about not letting someone else's experience color my own.
couldn't finish it. While I'm sure his style has an audience... its not me. I can finish bad reviews... his was annoying more than anything else.
I am so pissed Yatzhee did not review the GOG version, I mean I understand if he does not know GOG exist, but I bet its because CDprojeckt RED owns GOG and he hated the Witcher 1 and 2 so he did not buy it from GOG out of spite :P

End Rant.
Are you sure it's Yahtzee's style that's turing you all off, and not the fact that he's trashing a game you all love? This reminds me of a few years back when Yahtzee trashed one of the Super Smash Bros games and got lots of SSB fans riled up.

I mean, I can sympathize with you guys, but it's not like many of you would rush to the defence of Super Smash Bros.

(Well, except for Elmofongo I guess. ;) )
I just went through half of the video and could not take it any more. Lost me when he complains about too many buttons to press. That guy is ridiculous. Press "X" repeatedly to play the game and win. Yay for consoles, boo for PCs.

Ok...

It may just be that it's because he is trashing a game using stupid arguments, see the one above.

I like Smash Bros. but that review did not bothered me, and he made it clear that he is not good at 1 on 1 fighting games.

Agh I think I've seen him bitch and moan before about how he won't review certain games because he isn't going signing up for multiple services so I think he tries to keep it all Steam mostly. That and he is a contrary bolox.

As someone that typically likes games that are generally ignored, poorly received or outright vilified, I'm going to say, nah. He seems to like the game, even if he is bashing some of the game's aspects. Would people be discussing this "review" if he'd sang its praises like just about everyone and their mother has for the last 15 years?
