It's a bit inaccurate to say he's right, but at the same time it can't be said that he's wrong either. The determination he makes is subjective, as are the "modern standards" that it is based on. Some will agree with him, others will not, but there is no objective right or wrong to either perspective.
As for his value as a reviewer, that is determined solely by whether someone watching him finds his reviews helpful, entertaining, or informative in some way. Again, some find value in it, others don't.
