The first time you enter the castle and just before the throne room. By the time I had got there I might have had 1 life left and I remember walking past some incredibly fierce looking green statues against the wall. I remember I was incredibly scared that they might come to life and utterly waste me.

Another 'nope'. Falling on to the ground before Death Adder and anticipating his barrage of spells...

Damnation! I can't find a single screenshot of that part of the castle (its just after the bottomless pit section with all the skeletons). If I have time tomorrow I'll try to get some screengrabs myself, with the dwarf naturally...

Yep there was :) and these are the green statues I'm talking about. They scared the hell out of me because two of the statues do come to life. The remaining two luckily never did :P I did a quickly playthrough to that point and only barely made it : that's my last lifebar and I have no continues left :P

Clannfears in Oblivion always make me go NOPE! I really HATE those things and the way they are ramming you from below with their head, while somehow being almost unhit-able.

But then again the whole level-scaling in Oblivion was one giant NOPE! I mean, lots of the fun in RPGs comes from getting a beating, level up and then go back and stomp this guy into the ground. I actually quit on Oblivion after getting shafted several times by TWO goblins, a shaman and a normal grunt, while being a level 40 char. It was quite ridiculous... there is this heavily armored and armed warrior, unable to kill two little bloody goblins, because the sucker of a shaman keeps healing himself and his friend so fast, I would have sworn their wounds were already healed when I finished my blow. I actually flet onto a rock in the sea and tried to kill the shaman with arrows, but alas... the damn goblin looked like a bloody pincussion after I actually hit him with 250 (!) arrows of all kinds and was still alive and kickin`.

This actually was one of the very rare moments I ever rage-quitted a game. Then I rage-uninstalled it and never touched the damn game again. Yes, level scaling is a giant NOPE!

About the companions in Fallout 3/NV... I am really not a fan of them. I liked my companions in Fallout 1/2, but somehow in 3D and without the turn based fights I actually see them as annoyance. I just hate it when you go into stealth and they keep shooting or running or babbeling. I hate it when they keep getting stuck everywhere. And I surely hate it when they keep jumping in your way or when they force you into combat situations, because they insist of shooting at that radscorpion on the other side of Nevada. To me the companions in F3/NV would be a NOPE! too, but then again you don´t need to take them along, so all is fine.

I'm completely with you on the enemy scaling of oblivion. My first attempt the game I also had to quit because my character became too feeble. I mean, you can actually become progressively weaker by choosing as your major skills those skills that you use the most?! Made no sense... Regardless, I still want to give the game a go, and I have retried it on a couple of occasions, but I find I have to keep track of my skill increases to ensure that I always get to increase stats by at least +3/+3/+3 each time. Unfortunately this can be a bit of a chore.

If you have managed to get into a point of no return in Oblivion, you were extremely unfortunate, but the game is designed in a way so you don't if you just play normally. So don't worry about the stats, I've never cared about them in Oblivion and still all of my characters were viable. If you want to make sure that you'll have a viable character, take at least one combat-focused and one armor skill.
All this talk of Oblivion... one day I want to finish Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. They are fun, but I need the time. No Nope moments for me here, apart rom the one time in Oblivion when I became a vampire and couldn't find the person to help me get cured quickly enough and either had to choose between dying or cheating because I didn't want to succumb to actually being a vampire. I think If I had that to play over I'd have gone a different route and played out the scenario in full, but those saves are long gone.

Currently I'm getting over my initial dislike of Mass Effect. I just could not understand the combat the first time through. That Noped the game for me back when I first got it. I am a little ashamed to say part of the reason I'm enjoying the game now is because I have somewhat nerfed the gameplay by giving my team almost complete autonomy and have just ignored them. But still, the first two times I attempted the game it just didn't feel intuitve. Third time lucky though, and I'm pleased I came back for another try!

The real bossfight/ending in Cave Story. I like my games difficult, but that is just silly.
well I don't know it was a nope moment or a WTF! moment....

was on FINAL FANTASY VII - CRISIS CORE this game I always criticized for having lots of chronological errors, and several important scenes left them out, plus it is horribly linear. the only thing good were the graphics and the some pieces of the music ...

There was a time when I almost throw my brother's psp against the wall, one of the most obvious errors was the following :

on a mission (silly mission) when zack have to get materials to make a sort of cart for aerith to sell flowers .... you find a carpenter who will give you the wood.

he make a sort of joke, says: "I'm building a secret room in a pub in the Sector 7, It was asked by a woman who has huge breasts" ... wait ... chronologically the AVALACHE branch of midgar was created a year later Nibelheim incident with 5 people including Tifa (the girl whit huge breasts) ... Nibelheim mission is the next... what the hell are you telling me retard!! ...

Compared to the old Megaman games on NES, he was rather easy, but I know what you mean and don't like boss fights where you need the timing and dexterity of a ninja either.

Because of this, I must add the bodd fights (all of them) in "Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams".
The whole game is rather easy and the bosses are just ridiculously hard to beat.

+ The last (at least I hope so) dungeon of Final Fantasy 7.
I had to quit the game beause I didn't buy enough items before I went in there and didn't know, that it would be so hard and couldn't go back shopping...

Loved the story and most of the gameplay, but some of the combat was just too much for me.

I've heard tell that magic oriented characters have it easy (ier?). Pity that I want to play a gunslinger. At least there is a handcannon in that first big city, which drastically simplifies matters...

I tried magic, and found it hard. You can knock yourself out in combat from casting spells and running around, and then all the enemies just stand around kicking you like schooyard bullies!
Getting sniped by a musket from across the map in Napoleonic Wars = a "Nope" moment for me.

One thing is for sure. Guns are horrible in Arcanum. It's like every gun in the game is a BB gun. Melee weapons are 1000 times better. I wonder if there is a mod out there that makes guns worth using.

If you go to the Arcanum forum here on gog there is a stickied thread on a rebalance mod. I believe that is one of the things it takes care of. I cant say yet because I haven't tried it yet.

*************** Fallout 1 spoilers (but seriously who hasn't already played this masterpiece? Seriously?!

Exactly! Back then, I was terrified everytime I went into the Wasteland near cities in the south of Fallout 1, just because of random deathclaws encounters (even though they are very few), I'd like to deal more with a horde of stealthy supermutants with lasergatling than with deathclaws! They were really frightening! I also liked the introduction of those: a misty urban legend only really known by true wanderers veterans.

Before 1997, when I played videogames, especially RPG, or played tabletop games, I didn't make or choose characters designed to be very oriented (in their perks, skills, etc), I wasn't a hardcore gamer, so no min-maxing. I liked "swiss army characters" able to try something in every way even if they weren't mastering any skill. That was before Fallout 1. And THE Deathclaw. And MY error. :-)

After that (failed) encouter, I used to make very specialized characters, especially long range shooter-type. If you can slay a monster at long range, he won't knock you out with his big arms :p
That's why I erased my saves, made another run with the big rifle in Fallout 1, tried to make another sharpshooter in Fallout 2, used to play High-Elves and Sharpshooters in HoMM3, elvish archer or mage in table top Warhammer and AD&D, Tremere vampire or Hunter - sharpshooter obviously - in VtM, a sniper technologist in Arcanum, a mage in Planescape Torment - I didn't know that class was OP, I was just afraid to encouter a "fantasy deathclaw" - and so on... So many examples where I played a long range shooter in video and table top games. No more bad surprises! :D

I had a friend who played Fallout 3 before the first 2 and before tactics. Everytime we used to discuss about why the Fallout franchise is so great, he always talked about supermutants and deathclaws how they were trophy monsters "easy to slay" for him. /facepalm
He won't probably never understand why Fallout 1 was so intense, the deathclaw encounter was just another example. I believe that many people who have played Fallout 3 or New Vegas before the early Fallout feel the same. :-/

I have one big "Nope moment"

When playing System Shock 2.

I was continuously fighting and loosing against a door and three turrets. each time I died I pressed quickload and tried again. On the 30th time however I pressed quicksave by mistake and saved as I was falling to the floor dead. My last real save was an hour ago. And now I had to do it all again......

I nearly ragequite.
