Cyberevil: Wow!

A WHOLE lot more Hackers love than I expected here! I half expected to be thrown to the lions or barred from the thread at least. I'm stunned.

trentonlf: I enjoyed hackers, just came out at a bad time. Technology advances too fast to put a movie out with older technology and trying to make it look "awesome"
Yea, and the thing that always made me laugh, they ALL happened to live right by each other... WTF?

But as an upside, a young Angelia Jolie topless! Oh and I loved Plague too.
I wouldn’t say guilty pleasure, since I don’t feel guilty at all. :P

Among my favorites would be most of the Hercules and herculean hero type Italian/Spanish (and a few western) productions, late 50’s to the mid 80’s, or sci-fi classics from the same era.

Also most of the 70’s and early 80’s Shaw Brothers and other select martial arts movies.

Now that I have all of my favorite Godzilla movies pre-1980, I’ll include those and all the nifty old Universal Monster movies, Frankenstein, Dracula, the Wolf man and the Invisible man legacy sets.

These are the ones I generally end up watching alone, happily, and have searched for years to find some of the more obscure titles to add to my collection...

tinyE: Well, how do feel about it now? :P FYI I do own it on DVD but only because it was a Conan box set deal. *cough*

skynet464: Its ok, don't see why people don't like it.
It's because it went from an R rated adult themed story to a PG-13 Kid friendly comedy. The movie was okay, but I would have preferred a real sequel to the original.

Haley Berry Catwoman and Top Gun.

Catwoman came out when I was 14. It was exactly what my 14 year old mind wanted. The film does have some good points. It's beautifully shot. It's well cast and compared to how boringly serious some superhero films are it's good camp.

Top Gun is the most pandering male fantasy ever. In the a great young man shows the whole world that their rules are for losers and the only way to be a great pilot is his way. In the end everybody loves him for it, he saves the day and gets the girl. Apart from Goose dying It's the Male Twilight. A consequence free fantasy where everything revolves around you. It's dumb but it's perfect for what it is. And it's got a bitching soundtrack!

There's probably more but those are the first two I can think of.

Cyberevil: I Love Christine, and I like some of the others, but Dude, you simply can not defend Prince of Darkness ~

It's a pile of boredom and cinema shit in every sense.
Sure you can defend Prince of Darkness :) It's well paced, has a great atmosphere, some brilliant imagery, a cool mix of fantasy and sci-fi concepts and a good balance between suspense and gore. I'd say it's one of his better films. Good Horror spends time building atmosphere. What you call boring I call patient filmmaking.

I bet you can't stand Ingmar Bergman films.

A History of Violence
Tidelands
Romy and Michelle's High school Reunion
And er..... Miss Congeniality...
Plan 9 From Outer Space.

The Acting is atrocious.
The special effects are horrible, as well as Ed Woods fetish for stock footage
The plot is ridiculous
The script likewise

And yet...I like it. I just can't hate it. It would be like hating a legless puppy.
I'm really surprised to see "The 5th Element" mentioned in this thread, I've yet to meet an action/sci-fi fan that did not like it. For comparison "Blade Runner" is disliked by a lot of the same people but is still considered a classic.

My guilty pleasure movies:
I hated Hackers the first time I saw it, but liked it the second time several years later.
The "Resident Evil" movies except for the one in the desert with Las Vegas almost completely buried.
Terminator 3
Daredevil
Elektra
Starship Troopers (I tell myself it is a coincidence that it has the name on a Heinlein novel)
Wild Things
Alien Resurrection
Blade 3 (My favorite from the trilogy)
Crank :P
And Emir Kusturica's Black Cat, White Cat...

Double dragon and the escape from la/new york movies i have found a lot of people who hate them both or at the least pay them no mind.
At least in my usual social circles nobody seems to like The Chronicles of Riddick. I love that movie! (Though Pitch Black is even better). Unfortunately I haven't seen the third yet.

+1 for Pitch Black.

iippo: the movies (and games) are surprisingly good really.
I have both the Director's cut version of Escape from Butcher Bay on disk and Assault on Dark Athena from GOG. But I've never played the latter.

I always wanted to re-play EfBB and give it another go with the commentary (14h!) enabled. But I've heard it can be tricky getting it run nowadays. And AoDA doesn't have the commentary AFAIK.
Waterworld was critically panned but I enjoyed it :)
