LordCinnamon: ooooh. Dark Spire. Forgot about that one, should pick it up someday. Thanks for mentioning it. Loved both Etrian Odysseys and M&M III.
EDIT: oh, and I might be wrong, but aren't the Arkania games here on GOG something you might enjoy?
I have started the arkania games but I'm at a standstill. I started with the first one. I completed the first dungeon and had some trouble finding the next. I like the combat system but the town mapping is a pain. There's no way to place notes on the automap but at the same time, it seems too large to map by hand. For people who've never played it.. I compare the combat to another obscure game: Darklands.
Arteveld: EotB is great if You don't mind/like AD&D.
I'd strongly recommend playing the classic Lands Of Lore: Throne Of Chaos if You haven't already. Great game. While not technically a 100% crawler (frankly, i'm not sure if EotB is a pure DC anyway), it bears many similatities to EotB, mostly because, Westwood Studios, creators of the first two EotB games were not given the rights to create EotB3, so they created somerthing of their own. ;)
[edit:]
There's also the late addition to the genre, dubbed "the last 2,5, stepped RPG", called Anvil Of Dawn. Though it's made by 3DO [creators of the M&M series], so don't expect wonderful gfx.;P
Also, there's this almost unknown M&M clone, called Yendorian Tales [the second and third game is FPP].

That might be the one that I pick up. My girlfriend loves the lands of lore series, but I've only dabbled with the second one. I actually have the big box CD version of the first (from a thrift shop). They got Patrick Steward to voice the king--he's on the box in a star trek uniform, no less. So nerdy! :D
Graphics won't break a game for me as long as I can play. I still play Nethack and ADOM and the like. I hate it when I get a pretty game with no gameplay. Pretty graphics make me smile, but who cares what a game looks like if it isn't fun.
Anvil of dawn looks interesting. There are a lot more of these games then I thought!

I picked up Dark Spire a year or so ago. Brand new with music CD for $9.99. I think the manager of the store had a grudge against the game. I asked him what it was and he scowled and said "oh, it's really old school. Really old.". I promptly bought it. ha ha.
