2 hours after the games are up on the site, all three of them have no ratings or reviews - zero. Not even a one liner that says nothing, just nothing at all.

Hmm...

Well, there's always Thursday I guess. We'll see what excitement that morning brings!

Indie releases take longer to get reviews than oldies.

RaggieRags: Indie releases take longer to get reviews than oldies.
Corsairs is from 2003. One of the indies is over a year old. I see one is a new release.

In any event, since when does actually playing the game factor into people jumping to rate stuff on release days? I know it does happen sometimes there is no response initially and I notice that and find it humorous sometimes but this morning I could not help but find the total lack of reaction on the pages funny as well as the three threads on the games.

Sorry but it just strikes me funny for some reason.
Well, out of curiosity I went looking for a little feedback on the oldie, Corsairs and found this:

"Corsairs' unusual backdrop gave it the potential to follow in the footsteps of Sid Meier's strategy classic Pirates!. Unfortunately, its cumbersome interface and lackluster presentation drag it straight down to Davy Jones' locker."

Here is the full review for anyone interested:

I don't come here for indies myself so I couldn't be bothered investigating the other two titles, neither of which would interest me personally in any case.

All is not lost however. I look forward to the release of Wing Commander Prophecy and other games of similar quality in the future. Those will be good days. It just seems that they come to us less frequently now than they used to. This reminds me of when I used to make trips to the local stores to check the jewel case specials in the bargain bins. Once in a while you'd score some sweet finds but many times you'd come home empty handed.
Also depends on how much nostalgia people have for a game or how much hype the game has accompanying it. Games like System Shock 2 have a high nostalgia factor so fans are quick to jump in with high rating scores and games like the Witcher franchise have a very dedicated fanbase who are quick to gush over the game with praise.

I just went and read that and thought "Oh no" but everyone here who has played it seems to love it and the customer reviews on Amazon are all pretty good minus the one guy who gave it one star because he couldn't get it to run on his OS.

I don't know man. I just read in the other thread about this game one guy commenting on how he played it back in the day but cannot really remember it and then he goes on to recommend it. lol

What the hell though. It's cheap and it doesn't seem like it is terrible or anything. Have you already played Sid Meier's Pirates! though? Might want to enjoy that one first if you haven't. That's my plan.
Are "2 hours" reviews even worth the bother of checking?

lol

I just skim for info not opinions and take what I can from them which of course, varies quite a lot from one to another.

And I would say no, they aren't worth consideration but the point was I found it funny nobody bothered when very often they do.

I have and while I enjoyed Pirates it was that comparison which lead me to be really interested. Pirates while fun requires WAY more thought than I'm usually in the mood for so with Corsairs seeming to be a little more streamlined and simple I'm thinking it might be a great alternative.

BTW Harry and I are having the same conversation in two different threads. XD

Well if you decide to brave the seas of Corsairs I hope it turns out to be fun.

I'm just being hypercritical this morning because there's just a lot of really good games I haven't gotten to so "average" stuff doesn't float my boat at all for now. Someday if and when I ever catch up I may be willing to give other titles a chance. It's not like I hate everything. I actually want to play Ultima IX for example and I expect to like it too, rest of the world be damned.

I love Ultima IX.
Absolutely love the "Box Art" for Corsairs. "Be a pirate sailing the Caribbean seas with your double barreled shot gun and bikini clad babe!". Then boast "Historical Maps" Not sure how many double barreled sawed-off shotguns were on those ships, not to mention the bikini clad babes.

The releases rated a "meh" from me, Democracy 3 looks kind of like a deep discount buy for me, and the others, well...

Pretty much the same for me. Corsairs may well be a good game, but I always associate Anumen Interactive with the Atlantis series, so first impression was poor.

Maybe Thursday will bring a classic. Still waiting for Dr. M to appear again, too. :P
