HoneyBakedHam: Ha! I have been saying .adu (because it's 3 letters, and I think all TLDs should be, for aesthetic reasons) :-), for years... and I never once noticed the .edu similarity.
avatar
Miaghstir: I take it you don't like .museum, .aero, .info, or any or the two-letter country TLDs?
And let us not forget these horrible "double TLDs" like .co.uk... brrr, nasty.

Agreed. We should have gone with .cok instead.
avatar
HoneyBakedHam: Personally, I've always thought porn should get a .adu top level domain
Or maybe an edu TLD XD

Wouldn't .rob be more appropriate? I mean, the domain will only do one thing: make people pay twice for their domain names.

One can only hope that real-world heroes will take it upon themselves to break or steal everything owned, now and forever, by everyone involved in making that idiotic decision.

Pay twice? co.uk addresses are usually cheaper than most other addresses available.

carnival73: I remember when I first came onto the net back in the early nineties, 80% of it was porn and spyware that would force porn on you if you attempted to go anywhere else.
As opposed to the 90% it is now? ;)

I haven't noticed as much porn as I used to...or at least it is in control now.

Used to be you could search for something like the title of a children's book and you'd get about eight pop-ups of wibbling wobbling dicks and boobs.

I was sort of disappointed that they didn't choose .cum or .jiz for the TLD on this one.
The sites that supported this new domain were quite open about what they do, and what their business model is. They want credit card details. They want you to be subscribed to a site that you're afraid to admit to, and afraid to unsubscribe from (for fear of drawing notice from the mrs, if you've told her it's for a gym membership, she wants to know why you've stopped going to the gym.).

This is why they like the .xxx idea. The kids and the casual browsers aren't actually giving them much money. There's very little profit in providing drive by glimpses of body parts. They want your details, and they want regular intentional visitors (better ad click through rate).

It won't stop the rest, and despite a bit of publicity, no site will give up their other domains, just also register a .xxx one. However I think it's a step in the right direction.

I think those were too subtle for the porn industry.
Anyone under 30ish doesn't remember how bad we had it back then when the only way to get porn was to watch the Playboy channel through a scrambled signal: "I think I see a boob!" Today there are endless gigs of porn floating around out there -- I hope you all appreciate it!

I see, and .massive.hard.on was simply too much typing. Or is that more of a pharmaceutical TLD?

I remember that, I also remember having to actually know somebody whose father had a porn stash that he wasn't keeping a close eye on.

I greatly appreciate the work you've gone through, recording boobs from scrambled channels and improving the image quality to such an extent that I can find them as decent-quality 4000x5000 px images today.

cogadh: No currently available porn site in its right mind will move to the .xxx TLD for just that reason. Why go to a place that automatically limits your potential exposure?
Most porn sites are responsible and voluntarily add themselves to filter lists and stuff and encourage adults with kids to install parental safety controls, etc, so I don't think that's as much of a reason as you made out.

I think it's still there, it's just better controlled with popup blockers and better net security. At least, that's the impression I get, if you search google images for things like 'elf warrior' you'll still get a few, ahem, dodgy pics. But yeah, now you mention it I have noticed a decrease in accidental porn, used to be you had to be careful when clicking on links when doing google searches for fear of giant penises, now you're more likely to get a virus, and not the fun kind...
