I'm honestly confused by the suggestion that these requirements are crazy.

Not to be incredibly obvious, but it's 2011. Those specs aren't anything insanely high for a pc game released in this day and age

My geforce 310 has been good until now. I might need to upgrade.
I want to buy this game but I'm not sure with these requirements. I'm sitting on 2GB ram (can't upgrade it due to a motherboard problem), AMD x2 6000+, and a GTX 460 on Vista.

Running the game wouldn't be the problem but I have this thing where I won't get a game if I can't play on at least Medium (no AA, no shadows) since this is PC gaming after all. Will wait for the demo if they release one.

Tell me about it, im in a similar situation myself with my motherboard.
Solution: Buy new mobo....some are like only 40 bucks.

carnival73: What i've leaned from this forum and my own testing in the past is that a lot of developers will over exaggerate specs because they don't want the headache of attempting to trouble shoot and refund those in the minority whom are still clinging to older systems.

For instance, watching the gameplay, I don't believe that BEEP really requires a dual processor but Steam has listed Dual Processor as the only listed spec.

GameRager: What is BEEP....I see no game called BEEP on the Steam listings good sir. :P

Too many polies, sparkle and attempted uber-ness take up too much space on DVDs that more game content could otherwise fit in.

Forget which movie that was but that chic at TGIF's who was constantly hassled for not weighing down her work shirt in sparkly buttons.

Either way I'd rather hang back with GoGs that will play for months on end on my rig rather than invest $700 for only a mere three hours of 'trying to be uber with all teh flash.'

Big corps like EA must be running Maya on a computer the size of Deep Thought.

"Here, ya lil' shits! Choke on this one and then go runnin' crying to Gates for bigger, better, faster! Who's your daddy? Who's at top of your credit debt statement?"

I like graphics myself...not as the be-all-end-all mind you, but c'mon......people these days should have at least 1TB drives so space shouldn't be an issue, either for players or the companies making games. They could add more content, they just don't want to, and would rather you buy the new expansion they release instead.

And the movie is called Waiting.

Also I love older games as well, but some GOOD new games do come out, and upgrading does pay off if one wants to play said games to their full potential.

The one game that I use as a chalk line to demonstrate what I absolutely know my old PC will not run is Capcom's 3D Bionic Commando - Something that pimped looks like it would take up massive space on DVDs and I even wonder if it is sold hard copy or can only be acquired digital. If digital, this creates a whole new problem for Austral-Asia games, even if they've the latest rigs, because we pay per byte downloaded and any game over ten gigs is an extra $15 charge to our internet bills.

I have Bionic Commando for XBOX 360.....I assume that it must be around 9GB as it fits onto a dual layer DVD. That, or they compressed the hell out of it.

P.S. That sucks if you have metered service and can't get an unlimited plan, but I was talking more about people having no issues with space being concerned.

I want to switch to an Intel CPU but I really don't have the cash sitting around to get a new mobo, CPU, and some ram. That whole being a college student thing with limited income screws up the upgrade (and buying most games new) plan.

Find a mobo that takes your current RAM and CPU then, but which can accomidate more/bigger/faster(yet same DDR level) ram.
Understandably requirement specs are rarely an issue on here. But as far as I can see the witcher specs are pretty reasonable, for a brand new game.

To be honest I’m very happy they’re pushing to use the latest hardware and not falling into the console friendly limits or focusing on hardware that’s on its way to obsolescence. This was always the driving force behind PC innovation and it does seem to have been lacking in the last few years…

I'm pretty sure that buying a $700 pc will get you much much more than 3 hours of "trying to be uber with all teh flash" but ok.

People were complaining, shortly after the PS3 was released, that a lot of the games could be completed in under three hours.

I'm thinking "Well, yeah....higher res textures, more detailed models and levels....if you're attempting "Hardcore" not even a Blu-Ray will take you too far."
