Sogi-Ya: ... that balancing gameplay excuse is bullshit, if you don't want people going ape shit with the BFG then only let players carry 5 shots and make ammo for it hyper rare.

besides your asking for logic from Gear Box, the only logic they use is "titties = sales."
Balancing isn't an excuse.....

P.S. It's a duke game.....it's gonna have titties...deal with it little man.

this isn't going to be a Duke game ... in a real Duke game, blowing shit up is more important than chicks. In a real Duke game you run up to 'em, hit the space bar once for a laugh, then cap 'em so you can pop the alien shit faces that spawn.

mark my words, this game is gonna be DOA: extreme vollyball gone FPS with a cameo by Duke Nukem.

You don't remember your D3D then.....remember the first episode? The adult theatre? The adult bookstore?

BTW are you trying to say that appreciating the female form is childish or wrong? Lol

kalirion: What's your config? I use left hand on keyboard (ESDF), right hand on mouse. To switch weapons I have to move my hand away from the movement keys, and then find my way back quickly. Not good in the middle of a firefight.

StingingVelvet: Am I the only weirdo who uses the scroll wheel on the mouse to change weapons?
I do that too, but I can never remember how many clicks it takes to go from shotgun to shrinker for example, so in a hurry I always end up using the number keys.

yeah I remember them, I also remember that once the joke got old the game moved on to space ships and shit like that.

you know what I remember more than the strip club and the porno theater? the pipe bombs!

oh the glorious pipe bombs, and blowing holes in the walls with the rocket launcher, and kicking shit in the face with a boot till their heads popped, and the whole plot of D3D wasn't about "eeeek, they stole the chicks!" it was "Those motherfuckers blew up my ride!"

Thats the Duke I remember!

I also remember being able to carry every single weapon at once.

Actually Duke's line is no one steals our chicks...and lives. ;)

And yeah the pipe bombs...and the bloody ripper chaingun.
Ken Levine is a huge PC guy, and has a lot of influence I imagine...some studios have the determination and the influence or just a good/loaded publisher to allow them the extra time and effort to optimize for all platforms in whatever ways necessary. And some are just better at doing that than others.

THIS is me playing, exactly like that. Scroll, weee, aw, f..k, "9". :)

I got this cool mouse that has "hyper fast scrolling", after pressing the wheel once, the clicking mechanism is off, and You can freely scroll, good for "random weapon kill" in Unreal Tournament.

I'm just saying the mechanism is there already. I don't know how Bioshock did weapon switching but it got 10s everywhere and no one complained about it, so just copy them. When Broussard says "you can't do 8 weapons on a console" I just want to point to Bioshock and laugh.

Same with health packs. "Customers don't like health packs anymore"... BS! They loved Bioshock.

You can do all that...again the reason is time and money.

Radial menu? For one. I think Broussard is just crazy...developers say some retarded things sometimes.

Err do you really think that health packs and carrying stupid amounts of guns was the reason bioshock was a success? You don't think that having a strong narrative, gorgeous graphics and dripping ruined beauty atmosphere might have had a little bit to do with it? For example I don't remember many reviews that devoted entire paragraphs to health packs

Whatever the reason for Bioshock's success the point is those elements were not complained about and did not impact sales. When I see developers and publishers talk about things like regenerating health they act like the mainstream gamer demands these things. Obviously if super popular games like Bioshock can use health packs it means consumers do not make purchase decisions on these things.

Same with RPGs. Bioware act like you need to have voiced player dialogue to be successful yet Fallout: New Vegas outsold every Bioware game ever and has no voiced dialogue.

I think in the end I am saying what you are saying... just make a good fucking game. Stop thinking you need this or that, you need streamlining or whatever, just make a quality game and get sales.

Its a fallacy to infer that a lack of compaints are indicative of a success, I do agree with you on the regenerative health being overused but in reality it makes sod all difference if the game is actually good.

Err have you got sales data to back that claim up? That sounds pretty unlikely that FNV would have beaten Mass Effect 2

On that we agree completely, quality drives sales but the need to pick up Bandaid Of Healing +2 and shove stuff in your Holster Of Infinite Holding doesn't imply anything other than carrying one of each gun and having non regenerating numerical health

Then again I'm a big weird with games, I'd like a game where you get shot and lose health where a medkit stops you bleeding to death and nothing else, you don't regain health but you don't bleed out and die

It not only beat it, it beat it and raped it and threw the body in the ocean. New Vegas, purely on early boxed sales, was like 5 million. ME2 was like 2 million. I'm sure you could google it if you don't believe me.
