johnki: I was dropping back in to see what the forums were like now. Can't believe the Ninja Giveaway thread got shut down. Not entirely sure how something based entirely on the kindness of others got turned into something that required closing but oh well, point being I was trying to see if that was indicative of what the community is like now or not.
From what I could gather from other comments, the Ninja Giveaway thread was shut down because the givers got tired of people ninja'ing codes and scampering off without even a how-you-do. It was prone to abuse.
But there is a thread called "Open this Thread" that allows people to giveaway games similar to the Ninja giveaway. It just enters another step into the formula. You have to reply to the OP in order to be PM'ed the code.
I'm at work...?

I spent most of the morning and a chunk of last night playing La Mulana, which I got during the sale. I wish I could be playing it now because it's really gotten into my head.

Tormentfan: To have my games withheld until GOG want to give them to us, apparently..
It seems if you use the GOG Downloader, you're actually able to download D:OS. I wouldn't know for sure though, as I was too late to back the Kickstarter, and now I'm going to wait a bit for the price to come down before buying it.

I wasn't talking about that, I'm talking about GOG's arbitrary decision to withold the game for reasons of their own.. Read the D:OS UPDATE THREAD for their admission. They actually withheld it from us... can you fucking believe that?

Getcomposted: For me, that's like talking about a book you have on your shelf, but haven't read. Experience is subjective, so unless you actually play the game, how will you know if you actually like it?
All the critics and reviews may say a game is wonderful and brilliant, but what if there is some little niggle in there that's a game breaker for you?
Quite the contrary... I actually avoid topics about a game that I haven't finished yet, but I do like to discuss the story and gameplay aspects with other gamers once I've completed it. This stems from my early gaming years, almost 20 years ago, when I didn't have a computer that could run contemporary games, so my friend and neighbour used to invite me to his place all the time and we'd take turns playing Civilisation, SimCity 2000, and old LucasArts adventures. Back then there was no Internet connection and walkthroughs were hard to find (there didn't exist a gaming culture), so we had to join forces to complete games. I guess that habit stuck. And then, for my second playthrough of any worthwhile game today, I read the forums, study the strategy guides etc. for anything I missed the first time. Some games have a great community and it's entertaining to read stories from their gaming sessions.

Shaolin_sKunk: The people here were pretty cool and had awesome interesting discussions. That was two years ago. It's still okay now but it seems like the average user's age fell with the exit of a lot of long-time members and I feel like this place has suffered for it.
Isn't it natural for all Internet forums out there? Long-time members quitting, new members joining and adding some "new blood"?

I don't think it's possible for a forum to have the same members forever. Some will eventually loose their interest, go back to real life etc. I guess we all should be glad for new members joining (yes, me also being one of them). I've seen too many forums when the "old guard" was so hermetically closed the new members didn't feel welcomed. Result? In the span of a couple of years those forums slowly deteriorated and evetually died away.

I'm not saying this to start an argument, it's just a reflection of mine. The GOG community is one of the rare ones when new members really ARE welcome. I hope it will never change.

As to why I'm here? I like buying games, playing them and also talking about them. It's as simple as that :) Some things I enjoy even more - for example Brian Cox's "Wonders of the Universe". If a new lecture was on the TV right now, I would be out of here in the blink of an eye ;)

EDIT: corrected typos

If you were a Kickstarter backer, may I direct you to this post, which may help you. If you weren't, then I'm afraid there's nothing to do but wait. :(

Out of spite.
Because I have a break between playing a bit of Team Fortress 2 after dinner, and playing a bit more of System Shock 2 later in the evening.

What I should really do is to try to find a renovator for this apartment before we move out next month, so that I can rent it to someone. Someone rented out a similar apartment below us, they were asking a freaking high rent for it (considerably more I was thinking about asking for this), yet there were lots of people checking it out, and now someone moved in. These small apartments seem to be on high demand here.

Dang you're right, there is something shady going on, and that something is : I didn't actually read the first post

Revised answer : awesome community and some great threads! Standout threads :
Draw and guess the game ; what is this movie? ; what is this game? ; any help-me-remember-a-game thread or recommend-a-game thread
in short words im here because i can :P
Came here for the beer, stayed for the bitches!
Wait no, that doesn't sound bad ass enough. I'll think of something later.
