HGiles: Forums each have a specific culture. GOG's really, really doesn't like duplicate threads or angry ranting. We like our reasoned discussions and useful posts. Other places have different things that summon an angry horde of long-time users.
GOG is one of the lowest hostility gaming forums I've seen. Even in this thread, the first few responses weren't nearly as hostile as the OP. OP tosses around insults and curses in post 2. Not until post 10 does someone else do that.
Well, I would say this depends on the topic of the thread. Especially the threads about regional pricing, DRM, DLCs and so on get quite emotional (which I absolutely understand) and it doesn't take long and someone who voices a strong opinion without insulting specific users but maybe some diffuse entity like "the publishers" or (absolutely shocking and forbidden) "GOG" and he gets bashed with insults and so on.
In this case the OP wrote about some problem he has, might be there was another thread at this time, at lest someone pointed to it in a somehow impolite manner and so the show began. With every post someone got angrier and truth to be told unnecessary so. Unfortunately English isn't my first language and I don't use it that much, so it's hard for me to express my thoughts and even harder to do so in an eloquent way. Same is true if I'm ranting myself (and indeed there are times where I feel ranting is justified, especially when I'm the person ranting and I'm angry about something :P ) and it's quite harder to keep a reasonable tone if you have to use a language where your expression is limited as your vocabulary is way smaller than you are used to in your native language (I'm talking about my own deficits not about English lacking words). I guess that's also true for others (but not for the OP as far as I can tell and his location also hints so) and it would be nicer if we (me included) try to stay relaxed and a bit more polite. I read so much hate stuff the last days ... here, at Larian and especially at Steam. It would be a relief if we could stay polite without any pressure by moderators. In fact it's a pity I write this whole message because I feel the way I feel. ;) Ok, more text than I planned to write and I guess it gets ignored by most, but maybe someone reads it and thinks about it, maybe he decides to go on relaxed in some matters, I for myself am trying to do so in the future.
Wishbone: Just to be a complete nitpicker, it's probably safe to say that Wintermute is an
antagonist in Neuromancer, rather than a protagonist.
That's right. Used the wrong word here.
