Um ... someone opens a topic and then other users, not the moderators, start playing the forum police and boil the whole thing up until the whole thread gets out of hands, blaming the OP. I'm not discussing the sense of the thread in the first place, but how the whole thing went is ridicules and there is a certain hostility on the GOG forums that is really disappointing me. If you don't like a post: why not ignoring it. If you have to disagree with a statement: do so in a neutral manner. If you have to rant against devs/gog/publisher: do so. But it would be really nice if the community in itself could try to be neutral or polite and not aggressive and insulting after two posts. Only my thoughts after getting tired to read all the hostility over and over again, here and in other threads.

Way off topic, but is your username a reference? Because a friend of mine uses that as his steam name and it seriously threw me off.

DalamarNL: There was little need to spam the support channel with 'why is the game not up for download yet' after a 'roughly 2 hours to go' comment had already been put forward to us.
In your analogy, that's calling someone to tell him something and then everyone in the same street calling that person as well to tell him the same thing.

nightrunner227: If there's little need to spam support, wouldn't there be even less need to spam the general forum?
Spamming of any kind was pointless.
If only people were not made of emotions ;)

It is. It's some kind of a protagonist in the novell "Neuromancer" from William Gibson.

nightrunner227: I didn't say don't bitch. I said bitch to support. What's the quickest way for me to talk to you: calling your phone number, or walking up and down your street yelling at everyone that you're shit? All you did with your forum spanning was waste time at others' expense when you could've gone directly to the heads behind the matter.

Tormentfan: Blah blah blah.
Don't want to sound insulting but as a person who worked in tech. support for few years i'm really glad you did not reached to support and spared them from your hysteria. Really dude, you sound like 5 year old.

Do people really think that people give a toss when some random decided to tell them off? This forum is particularly good at that, if it isn't people thinking they have the right to tell you what you can and can't say, then it's the stupid ineffectual popularity campaign that is the rep vote system, and do you know what.. it's the 'reasonable' element here that is the biggest transgressor against other forum users... using 'righteousness' as an excuse to be just as much a bunch of undesirables as the complainers.

Surely you all aren't so self absorbed in thinking that any of your opinions matters to me?

Ah well, takes all kinds I suppose.

You know your complaining about my complaining doesn't make you right, in fact it makes you more wrong than I am.. at least I complain about actual things that cause issues, regardless of how irrelevant that 'seems' to some, you all just complain about complainers... and that is lame.

Just to be a complete nitpicker, it's probably safe to say that Wintermute is an antagonist in Neuromancer, rather than a protagonist.

Everyone's opinion matters. That is what separates us from ants.

Forums each have a specific culture. GOG's really, really doesn't like duplicate threads or angry ranting. We like our reasoned discussions and useful posts. Other places have different things that summon an angry horde of long-time users.

GOG is one of the lowest hostility gaming forums I've seen. Even in this thread, the first few responses weren't nearly as hostile as the OP. OP tosses around insults and curses in post 2. Not until post 10 does someone else do that.

Holy crap, is this thread still going? I've got just one thing to say.

Well, I would say this depends on the topic of the thread. Especially the threads about regional pricing, DRM, DLCs and so on get quite emotional (which I absolutely understand) and it doesn't take long and someone who voices a strong opinion without insulting specific users but maybe some diffuse entity like "the publishers" or (absolutely shocking and forbidden) "GOG" and he gets bashed with insults and so on.
In this case the OP wrote about some problem he has, might be there was another thread at this time, at lest someone pointed to it in a somehow impolite manner and so the show began. With every post someone got angrier and truth to be told unnecessary so. Unfortunately English isn't my first language and I don't use it that much, so it's hard for me to express my thoughts and even harder to do so in an eloquent way. Same is true if I'm ranting myself (and indeed there are times where I feel ranting is justified, especially when I'm the person ranting and I'm angry about something :P ) and it's quite harder to keep a reasonable tone if you have to use a language where your expression is limited as your vocabulary is way smaller than you are used to in your native language (I'm talking about my own deficits not about English lacking words). I guess that's also true for others (but not for the OP as far as I can tell and his location also hints so) and it would be nicer if we (me included) try to stay relaxed and a bit more polite. I read so much hate stuff the last days ... here, at Larian and especially at Steam. It would be a relief if we could stay polite without any pressure by moderators. In fact it's a pity I write this whole message because I feel the way I feel. ;) Ok, more text than I planned to write and I guess it gets ignored by most, but maybe someone reads it and thinks about it, maybe he decides to go on relaxed in some matters, I for myself am trying to do so in the future.

That's right. Used the wrong word here.

Yes but if we were in competition with ants we'd lose. Or that already happened.

This is going sideways.

Mine obviously don't to any of you.. so why should it matter the other way around?

Titanium: Today I came to GOG all ready,
To play some games for hours steady.
Download button, here we go,
Dare I press it? Make it so.
But with some surprise and hate,
questioning the current state:
Where are my great games galore??
Quoth the server: "404"
Genius. Made me laugh.
