Usually an honorable male knight or paladin but if the NPCs piss me off I tend to turn into a militaristic bully.

Elmofongo: I never had any problems being a Warrior/Tank in Dragon Age mabye for my first RPG to play as something else I wll go with Dragon Age.

orcishgamer: Well, let me be clear, it wasn't "too hard" as much as it was... stupidly boring, at least for myself. At least with the other classes you have something to do... I mean if you want to, if you're a mage you can throw a heal and watch your party do most of the work if you're feeling lazy, but that doesn't prevent and Earthquake and "cloud kill" (whatever it was called) combo if you're feeling active.
Really? I though that Dragon Age did a relatively good job of making "warrior with shield" a viable and fun option, much better than a lot of other games. Certainly mage is the most versatile option, though.
I love being a tank. Especially in MMORPGs. If it is a standard singleplayer I will very often play a warrior type or an archer.

I'm not totally against playing mages or assassins, stealth and magic both have their place in my playstyle, but I really seem to enjoy just being able to rush into every battle and take 100,000 blows to the face.

Healers and buffers are one of my favorite things to play (especially in mmorpgs) if they are done correctly, but I don't like spammy healer archetypes. I like strategy and planning in healing.
I usually play as human or elf or if available a cross of both. For the class I prefer the mage or rogue/ranger ones, again if a cross is available I might play as that one.

Which one I endup picking depends a lot on the game and the restrictions it puts on the race/class. For example I really don't like having to drag along a specific companion to be able to open a simple lock.

Any mage/magic type person. I dunno, there is something about frying your enemy with fireballs and lightning bolts.

As for races or whatnot, I tend to go with what looks cool to me or has some good stats for my caster. I rarely play as male on any game that allows male/female chars. Just feels weird to be a dude!
Usually a human who has a way with words. That usually means high charisma or intelligence with emphasis on speech/diplomacy/persuasion/whathaveyou, sometimes even with classes who aren't usually made for the diplomatic approach like fighters.

I used to play fighters only, but I've become more flexible over the years.

I start as the Man with No Name usually then I try other characters if it's a game I feel like playing again.

So a character that is fast, agile, stealthy, mechanically inclined, always thinking and planning a strategy, but is still extremely deadly in a straight-up confrontation if it comes to that.

Talky first, magic second, combat a distant third is usually my default. Oh, and good of course. after that I like to play around more.
I play who I am in real life.

The Bad Ass.

I noticed that RPGs penalizes people who do not invest in Charisma.

Like for example:

You have low charisma so you cannot persuade this man to surrender peacefully.
I usually play whichever character or class has the best art. ;)
an ultra hot female wizard called Isabell

(if a game offers this option and/or am not fed up with other games I play at the moment as Isabell)

:o)
Mages (primarily), Paladins, and Clerics.

Mages so I can wear a proper silly hat.
Paladins so I can scream THOU ART SMITED!
Clerics for an excuse to wear a bathrobe and say I WORSHIP THE LORD, BOB!

:D

Mostly some human warrior type. However, I'm slowing moving into playing rangers.
