elus89: But if you the acquirer of free promotions know (and when I say know I mean it with a certain amount of conviction) you will never give proceeds in any way to the promoting party, than yes, for you to accept (when you have a choice not to) the promotion is immoral.
So to answer your questions psyringe:
Yes. Yes. Yes. And yes.
Thanks for taking the time time answer. I think we'll have to agree to disagree then. (And as I said, I'm very sure that the people who design such promos would disagree as well, but no need to repeat this part of the discussion.)
Here's some food for thought though:
You're about to watch a TV event in free television that you were looking forward to. Before the event starts, you see an ad of its main sponsor, who (by paying for this ad space) made it possible that you can watch the event. You are absolutely sure that you will never, ever buy the product that the ad is about.
Do you switch the TV off now and do something else, because it would be immoral to watch the event? Because given the way of reasoning you're advancing, you would have to.
You don't have to answer this question, this thread has gone off-topic far enough, I think. Just think about it for a moment, okay? :)
